CPU performance is not very big from SB to IB...
And even though they say we could expect lower heat as well, so far from what I've heard IB i7 processors can get really hot hmm.gif

Looks like the Acer V3 can get really hot..
And insights from bro putochip123 also suggests the same with new Alienware units... the temperatures are quite high

is the 15r hd7730m better than dv6 hd7690m xt?
if so, is the differences significant?
still deciding between this 2 models

Its expected to run more or less similar with the Nvidia GT640m, which will be slightly better than the AMD HD7690M XT..
Perhaps you would want to wait for actual benchmarks 1st

I use a dell latitude e6420 and it's a solid laptop build wise (uses a magnesium construction for the build). I'm quite sure the e6320 is made of the same materials.. obviously it's not a gaming laptop but it handles multimedia ok (mine's core i5-2520M @ 2.5GHz, 64bit win 7 pro, 4gb ram, nvidia nvs4200m 512mb ddr3, 500gb 7200rpm, 1366x768 14", e.t.c... but no usb 3.0 sad.gif ). its a weeny little bit heavier than other laptops in its class though. If you're not gonna be using it for games, then yeah go for it.

Gaming and designing

4. Preferred laptop/screen size

17"

I've been looking around and some caught my attention (overall of spec+design+price): ASUS G74SX and MSI GT70/GT60 (is the extra 2" worth the price?). Alienware has cool design+build, but spec+price point is not competitive.

I've also heard about Sager and its customizability + bang-for-buck value. Thoughts?

If you're looking for the best bang for buck, then go for Sager nod.gif Last I've checked there are no 17" models with IB yet, but do check out illegear again, maybe its updated already nod.gif

As you've mentioned, the new MSI desktop replacements are quite good as well:
GE70, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M (2GB) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4599, 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, free SteelSeries QCK Mass Mousepad
GT70, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX670M (3GB) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM6399[Dyaudio], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, free SteelSeries Siberia V2 Headset; backlit keyboard

For either pick, use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years on-site (RM249 iinm). You might want to upgrade the Windows to W7HP as well.

Oh ya, can get a pair of external speakers/ earphones as well if you're an audiophile since the speakers in the Vostro is not very good nod.gif

Preferred Brand | Acer or Asus, but I'm open to suggestions from other brands too

Budget | RM 2k - 3k

Usage | Main laptop for college as well as serious media usage [Internet, videos, music, word processing, graphic design, photo editing, etc., etc.]

Preferred laptop/screen size | 14"

I'm upgrading from a 4-year-old Acer Aspire 4930 [14", 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Intel Core2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz)] so I'm looking out for these specs:

+ Intel i5-2450M (2.5GHz)
+ dedicated graphics memory (1GB/2GB) alongside 4GB RAM
+ optical drive
+ long battery life
+ HDD space (500GB, perhaps?)

Please and thank you!
