Preferred Brand | Acer or Asus, but I'm open to suggestions from other brands too

Budget | RM 2k - 3k

Usage | Main laptop for college as well as serious media usage [Internet, videos, music, word processing, graphic design, photo editing, etc., etc.]

Preferred laptop/screen size | 14"

I'm upgrading from a 4-year-old Acer Aspire 4930 [14", 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Intel Core2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz)] so I'm looking out for these specs:

+ Intel i5-2450M (2.5GHz)
+ dedicated graphics memory (1GB/2GB) alongside 4GB RAM
+ optical drive
+ long battery life
+ HDD space (500GB, perhaps?)

Please and thank you!
*
Can consider these three:
Acer TimelineX 4830TG-2454G75, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2599[2.17kg]

Asus U46Sv-WX053v, i5-2430M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2599[2.14kg]; USB3.0, Asus optical mouse

Dell XPS 14z, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT520M@RM3099[1.98kg], 8GB, 500GB, Belkin Evo Backapck, 4GB

Thanks. Will look into it, but the comments on that page seem to point towards an inferior product. Needs more digging.

If you're looking for the best bang for buck, then go for Sager nod.gif Last I've checked there are no 17" models with IB yet, but do check out illegear again, maybe its updated already nod.gif

As you've mentioned, the new MSI desktop replacements are quite good as well:
GE70, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M (2GB) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4599, 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, free SteelSeries QCK Mass Mousepad
GT70, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX670M (3GB) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM6399[Dyaudio], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, free SteelSeries Siberia V2 Headset; backlit keyboard
If the GT70 can be fitted with the 7970, then I'm probably gonna go for it. I saw it in person and fell in love with the overall aesthetics (sucka for beauty).

The more I read, the more I'm leaning towards Sager. Still waiting for the update at illegear. Any comments on the support/service?

1. Preferred Brrand: Asus!
2. Budget: <RM3.5k
3. Usage: Gaming of course (doesnt have to be "heavy" games),photoshop.....suitable for college student.
4.Preferred laptop: Ultrabook (Asus Zenbook)

One quick question, does the Asus ultrabook decent enough to play mmo games?

My budget is around RM2500, been looking around for good lappy,

Need to ask opinion about the Vostro 3450. Got some good price for this notebook, and I like it coz of backlit keyboard.

Any other good recommendation?

If you're only looking at the specifications, then the Acer would be the best pick nod.gif
However the Acer can get quite hot based on reviews

The Vostro 3450 is a very decent notebook and I recommend it quite a lot nod.gif
The entire laptop (apart from the colored area) are matte, very user friendly~ And the keyboard buttons are ergonomic and nice to type on~

Some of the usual complains include the poor audio and wobbly lid (haven't experienced this so far)...

I guess the Vostro series will get a refresh quite soon with IB, so you might to wait if not in a rush to buy

HP got Beats Audio, Asus got B&O, Dell with JBL and etc.

The audio quality only perform on the speakers right? or does it also give better audio through headphones than the Vostro "i-dont-know-what-brand" audio?
