For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. While we like some of Samsung’s tweaks – the Kies air app is surprisingly useful, for instance – we’d prefer to see a clean Gingerbread install rather than TouchWiz. How much of a delay that UI modification will force on future Android OS updates remains to be seen, and some changes – such as the keyboard – are frankly backward steps. There are also some annoying teething pains, such as the Video Maker app being unable to handle the Galaxy S II’s 1080p footage.
They pale in comparison to the Samsung’s strengths, however. The display belies its WVGA resolution with Super AMOLED Plus technology that manages to be both frugal and visible outdoors, while the dual-core 1.2GHz processor does a similar balancing act with power use and performance. Together they add up to a smartphone with brilliant battery life and the most future-proof hardware we’ve seen to-date. Layer on top of that a great camera, fulsome multimedia support, broad connectivity and a wafer-thin design, and we’re running out of reasons not to buy the Galaxy S II. Samsung has upped not only its game but the benchmark for smartphones in general.

And so we come to the end of our epic Samsung Galaxy S2 review – and we know some of you might have jumped straight here to see what we think.
However, if you're considering purchasing this phone, we recommend you take a look through our review, as there's a lot to cover in the new phone and we wouldn't want you to miss anything now, would we?
But if you're after a one-word summary of the Samsung Galaxy S2: awesome. We've been waiting for a phone to set a benchmark among the dual-core breed, and we've found it in the Samsung Galaxy S2.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Seldom do we rate a phone a full 5/5, but the Galaxy S II is one of the most advanced, well-rounded, and powerful smartphones we've ever tested. Samsung truly delivered on its second-generation Galaxy S. We can't get over how thin the Galaxy S II is, and it's a true joy to be able to browse the web with such smoothness and speed.
There certainly is room for improvement here. Samsung ought to work on making TouchWiz as lean as possible, and it'd be nice to turn it off entirely and revert back to stock Android for maximum speed. We also wonder whose idea it was to have the device make a beep when the battery is fully charged...if you like waking up at 3AM, this won't be a problem for you, but for those of us that like to sleep soundly, it's a big annoyance.

The Plus indicates a transition from the Pentile matrix to a panel technology that has three sub-pixels for each pixel. The Pentile matrix shares eight sub-pixels between four pixels while the new pixel layout in Super AMOLED Plus follows what has been commonly done in LCD panels. This means the same four pixels will have a total of 12 sub-pixels. This should translate to improved color reproduction and a generally sharper-looking images.

Samsung Galaxy S2 internal memory explanation
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The internal 16 GB is flash memory. 2 GB is partitioned (unviewable) and all your apps is installed there. Out of the balance 14 GB, about 2GB is used by phone system and you have about 12 GB left. When you installed apps with supporting data, example games downloads, dictionary data, news feed, tweeter feeds data etc, all such data goes into the other 12 GB partition

Battery maintenance tips : from forum lowyat SGS thread
1) Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a device is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
2) Batteries with fuel gauge should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
3) Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
4) Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
5) If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.
How to calibrate battery ?
1.Run the device down until it turns itself off. 2.Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again. 3.Remove the battery for 10 seconds. 4.Replace the battery, but leave the device off. 5.Charge the device until full and then for another hour. 6.**Root users only** Using a Terminal Emulator, type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin” ( can also be done more easily through CWM or SGSTools app) 7.Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off. 8.Turn the device on and charge for at least 8 hours. 9.Unplug the device, turn off, then charge for another hour. 10.Unplug the device, turn on, wait 2 minutes. 11.Turn off again and charge for another hour. 12.Restart and use as normal.
Wakelocks?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Use BetterBatteryStats to check what is keeping your phone Awake and not allowing the phone to enter deep sleep
In the words of the developer:
I wrote BetterBatteryStats because I was missing the great battery history that Spare Parts allowed to call on Froyo: - Process stats with User and System CPU time - Network Usage with bytes sent and received - Wakelock stats (the most important one when it comes to battery drain)
This app is still under development and may contain bugs. If you find one you can keep it, but I’d be happy if you could also report it to me. BetterBatteryStats is calling the “batteryinfo” service of Android to retrieve data already lying there without generating overhead. BetterBatteryStats is focussing and has been tested on Froyo and Gingerbread and the APK is set to run only on those versions only. What are wakelocks and why should you care about them? When it comes to Android the most discussed and commented topic that I know is battery drain / battery life. I’m a quite heavy user because I spend a lot of time on the train every day reading my mails, surfing and listening to music but still my phone is off for a long time during the day and while I accept the battery being drained while I use the phone I care about it draining slowly while “doing nothing”. And here’s the point: my SGS2 drains about 2-10 mAh where it was up at 20-100 mAh before I started cleaning stuff up.

Basically, you just need to replace the map data : see tutorial here :
Tips from user selphy : Ok, for those of you who have trouble installing the Google Maps (for Navigation), i had issues too, but managed to do it through the following:
1. First, make sure your phone is rooted, then download the Google Maps-ownhere.apk (NOT the re-sign one), and transfer to your external SD card. 2. Using Titanium backup on your phone, wipe data and then uninstall both Google Maps and Street View. 3. Then using root explorer on your phone (i used Super Manager, which also has root functions), transfer the Google Maps-ownhere.apk file to your phone's system/app folder (make sure its set to R/W). 4. Then just reset the phone, and voila! Navigation is available!

Deep Sleep?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Deep Sleep runs automatically by the kernel and on battery only. If connected to charger, the kernel won't trigger deep sleep mode (the CPU will throttle down to 200MHz). When activated, the kernel will reduce the CPU frequency like notebook standby and will wake the phone when any services require an update in order to save battery.
Drawback, it introduce the wake up lag to the phone. If your phone instantly wakes up on battery, it means there is an active app running in the foreground (normally apps which requires constant network access) or a nasty app did not suspend or kill by the OS.
App to use to monitor : CPU Spy.

Your backup here is often called a Nandroid backup . All your phone's data, apps, settings, roms, kernel etc is FULLY 100 % backup, Under this ClockworkMod recovery you will also have option to RESTORE 100 % the phone status
Titanium Backup is an APP which requires phone to be rooted. You can use TB to backup all your apps and its associated data. You ONLY can use TB in a working phone . You can restore anything from TB if your phone crashes and cannot be rebooted. TB does not backup your kernel/roms,
Overheating Issues?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
For new users and to be user - the SGS II operating temperatures is higher than most other Androids, simply because it is dual core and its thinness transmit heat easily. Some users like to use the word " hot" - I'd said is warmer than normal. The word hot connotes a feeling of uneasiness and a possible burning effect on your skin, which it will not. Most users I believe will use some sort of casing or backcover - these will reduce the effect
If you have been using single core Androids 1 GHZ models before - you will not experienced the " hotness" as a serious concern, I'd say generally is about 2-3 degree centigrade more. Those who are coming over from say Blackberries and Symbian will feel the difference more obviously
Use an app to monitor battery temperatures - batterylife widget is a good free app. It shows you the temperature and voltage and is quite a well designed widget
These are guides to operating temperatures ( degree centigrade ) basing solely on my usage :
Idle not in use : 26 - 31 Browsing : 32-35 Gaming : 35 - 40 WiFi hotspot : 35 - 45 GPS : 35 -45
With prolong continuous usage over several hours it could hit 50 but I'd think such usage should be minimal unless you are one freaking gamer I read the phone has gone to extreme testing till 70 degree and still performs well

Rooting an Android phone opens its core functions that aren’t available when you buy it. One of the major benefits is the ability to install apps to the SD card, which saves space on the device. Rooting also enables you to install apps that required access to system files, example - backup , screenshots . Commonly use of rooting is to allow installation of alternative roms which is faster and better, more features, and reduced bloatware. Rooting will not remove your 3rd party apps, data/wipe clean your phone. And the chance of bricking the phone during rooting is close to impossible. Just make sure your phone has at least 50% battery charge. Do refer to the specific methods on how to unroot back if needed - easiest is to use SuperOneclick, One root solution or flash back official stock rom
Warranty?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Rooting will void your warranty but you could always unroot it before you send to SME to fix your phone. Some SME might not even mind if your phone is rooted.
How to Root? (ONLY For the Original Galaxy S2 variant (i9100)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Rooting
1. Download Odin and the correct CF-root zip file according to your firmware. To check, go to settings, about phone, scroll to the bottom. Look at baseband version, remember the last 3 letters, so let's say its XXKL1, then download the KL1 CF Root file.
2. Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
3. (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
4. Start ODIN
5. Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
6. Put your phone in download mode (To enter download mode, power off the phone, then press the volume down+home+power button at the same time. Once you see the GT-I9100, let go of all 3 buttons. The phone will display "warning" and some text. Press volume up button to continue. Your phone should show an android icon and "downloading" text. This means you are in download mode now.)
7. (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure repartition is NOT checked
9. Click the START button
10. Wait for the phone to reboot
11. Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
1. Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
2. Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
3. Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
4. Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
5. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
6. Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
7. Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
8. Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
9.You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
10. In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)

First and foremost I am not an expert in such stuffs - this is based on my experience flashing the first Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab and present Galaxy S II. Any experts reading this please do correct me if I am wrong in any way
PIT stands for PARTITION INFORMATION TABLE. The pit file basically tells Odin how to divide the partitions (for formating) and also where certain components ( PDA, PHONE, CSC ) to go when flashing them individually. PIT understanding is very crucial when you wish to flash roms from samfirmware.com , one place I always discourage new users from attempting as it is a trap to bricking a phone if you do not understand what you are doing
Cooked roms take cares of PIT ; you rarely see cooked roms asking you to choose PIT during flash thro Odin. Most cook roms, the developer has built in his rom the PIT instructions
For example, in the samfirmware.com Galaxy S site, you can even see different types of PIT listed and a warning that you choose the right PIT file. In its SGS II site, If you look at samfirmware.com - there is a default PIT file you can download at the top box just above the list of firmwares for different regions. If you download any of these official roms, you will see some roms comes with a PIT file and some does not. You asked a very good question, why is the PIT included if is of no use ? My advise is simply this : If you see a PIT included in your rom, choose it during flashing as most probably the PIT is a changed version from default. You can only use this PIT to flash with the rom that comes with it. You cannot take this PIT and used it to flash another rom - this will brick your phone. When you use a wrong PIT - you have 2 possible scenarios : - failed flash and phone cannot boot - flash OK but the whole internal SD is formatted and cannot be detected at all by phone ( my experience with the Tab)
If the rom downloaded does not supplied a PIT file - than you just flash it without it or you choose the default PIT
As the PIT name implies, using PIT basically repartition /reformat your whole internal SD - once you select PIT, you will see repartition is auto selected. All your data in the internal SD will be wipe clean
You can choose NOT to select the PIT during flashing if you wish to have your internal SD intact. I cannot say whether you will have a successful flash. If is successful it just means your present rom PIT is similar to the rom you have downloaded. If is unsuccessful, just flash it again and select PIT
If the rom file is packaged together as a single tar file ( instead breakdown into separate entities of PDA, Phone, CSC ) , there is no need to use PIT. Just flash the tar file as PDA in Odin
Recovery/Download Mode?

Download mode is used when you need to flash rom through Odin. Recovery mode is used when you wish to do a backup/restore of your phone, flash roms based on zip files, cleaning up your caches , update firmware officially through supplied update zip files etc.

ClockworkMod has much more to it such as :
1. Reboot system now
2. Apply update from sdcard
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Install zip from card
6. Backup and restore
7. Mounts and storage
8. Advanced

What is ROM/Flashing/FAQ about Flashing?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM contains the operating system and often additional software which can be “installed” to your mobile device. Most ROM’s provided by the chefs (people who create cutomized ROM’s) just contain the operating system and additional applications. Shipping ROM’s (ROM’s provided by the manufacturer or official providers) also contain a Radio ROM and a bootloader. Please notice: A ROM can ONLY be flashed to a device it is made for.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
Q: What means SIM-Unlock?
A: Lots of providers want to bind their customers. So they add a SIM-Lock to their devices with only allows to use SIM-Cards using their networks. If you want to use a SIM-Card from another provider, you need to SIM-unlock your device. This can be done by contacting the phone's provider (paid & sometimes free). This is common for USA based Tecos.
Q: Can I brick my phone by flashing a ROM?
A: YES. But if you follow all instructions, it is quite implausible that your device bricks.
Q: Does flashing affect the warranty of my device?
A: Yes, flashing an unofficial rom will void warranty. But as long as your device can be unrooted and be reflashed again to stock original rom you can than send in for warranty claims.
Q: What can I do, if i gain problems with the ROM i flashed to my device?
A: First of all you should inform the creator by posting in the ROM's thread if the problem is not described yet. Then you should wait for an update/fix or, if the issue is a showstopper for you, try another ROM.
Q: Which is the best/fastest/... ROM?
A: Nobody can answer you this properly. There are nearly daily new ROM's here and everybody has different demands to a ROM. If you want to know, which fits best for you, read the ROM description and try the ROM('s). Only you can decide, which ROM is the best (for you).
Q: What is the difference between a hardreset and a softreset?
A: A softreset reboots your device. A hardreset sets all settings back to the ROM's defaults. All of your data, settings and additionally installed programs will be deleted.
What is IMEI?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number, usually unique, to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.
The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "blacklist" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless on that network and sometimes other networks too, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.
How to Backup your IMEI? (IMPORTANT)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Every user of this phone should always backup their IMEI just incase something goes wrong when flashing files, use 'ktool' to backup your IMEI, it can also be used to flash new kernel files.

The JIG just resets your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle during first bootup What does this counter do exactly?
It's very simple: it counts the number of times you flash a custom ROM or kernel on your SGS II, so the guys over at Samsung know of it when you return the phone to them for any kind of problem you may have (this is done so they can say whether you've voided your warranty or not). Even using Odin to get back to stock won't help you and will let the counter go up by one The good news is that the counter can be reset by using one of those jigs we all know very well
No, unfortunately Samsung has very clear in mind what it's doing. It seems there is a second counter, which counts the number of times the custom flash counter has been reset, and the bad news is that its position/folder has not been discovered yet.
Please note that ROMS made for the Original S2 cannot be flashed with the G version of S2 or you will brick your phone. Only ROMS made for the G version can be flashed.

If you install cracked/pirated apps from illegal "ahem" sources or using one of those blackmarket, faked android market apps, etc BEWARE that your phone becomes unstable. Common symptoms said to be due to these are :
- unexplained sudden reboots - auto shutdown - unstable browsing - sudden swing back to homescreen, freeze while in midst of browsing - occasional hangs/freeze while in use
The instability issues is more apparent/commonly occurring if phone is on Android version above Froyo 2.2.2 . Gingerbread is obviously more insecure
No one knows exactly how these cracked apps interact with one another and a combination of certain specific apps could be the cause of these issues. Installing anti virus apps might help but is not a proven solution.

Thanks to Spider on the CheckROM forums :
Most people come into custom roms and dont really understand what the forums are saying to them in the terms of doing things the right way, often things get misinterpreted as i understand but really you don't!!!
This is the case when it comes to custom roms installation, new comers think yeah i'll have a go and go for it without even understanding the basics of custom roms, wrong move, a little research didn't do anybody any harm, and is time well spent when it comes to taking a gamble on bricking your phone.
The main thing I've noticed is that people don't understand what a full wipe is and just go with what they see...
Going into clockwork mode and just selecting wipe. data, wipe delvic cache, wipe cache, is not a proper full wipe, its like wiping your arse with shit still in your bumhole untill you wash it, no no no, this method doesn't remove the old system files, there still there untill you carry out a format of the system partition, if you dont do this and install a rom over it you will have problems with the rom you just installed.
The correct procedure for doing a full wipe is below.
Go to clockwork mode recovery.
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it. Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes.
That's it no need to format anything else, just go back and install the rom from sd card.
This is the correct way of doing a full wipe everything is erased and formatted ready for the new rom, no old system files etc....

Anyway im still on GB Criskelo rom v38 and Siyah v2.6 12+
and latest Go Launcher, currently no problems, wondering what ICS rom to flash,
seems like most of them got issues
LP7 fixed most issues, just flash a rom like wanamlite/thebyani that has LP7, or if u want toally bug free, flash stock LP7 as most custom rom have bugs due to aosp apps

I think you should put on the first page " Currently no official Malaysia ICS firmware update yet" and "We don't know when SGS III is launched" Too many question on these until bored to read already.
Lai lai trade? Selling my s2 to my sister when she comes back from uk in a few months time, might get htc one x or s3
But for now, s2 baby
Once u get S3 we trade k? but anyways, get S3

but i got it already I thought it would work great during emergencies at least. My concern is whether it would actually weaken the battery?
because my friend considered it same category as a fake charger; and fake chargers which have different outputs can mess up battery life? both of us don't know better

Okay, serious question, for about a few days I encountered a problem, I posted below 2 screenshots, and I noticed that even though my phone is asleep, but it is awake, I don't know why.. And leaving it idle, the battery curve decreases at a gradual rate, not a steep one but nevertheless a worrying one. And I bought the better battery stats and it shows that USB mount is waking all time, but how do I delete the USB mount? Is there an app to delete partial wakelocks?? I really want to make this app to sleep, as it really sucks all my battery's juice.. Thanks alot..

So far Kingston no problem for me.. Very good, although if you ask around salesman and saleswoman will say that sandisk is better, and I ask them why. and they replied, "Oh, it's because we are selling sandisk only". But anyways, I did not believe the sales person and I ask around everywhere in Sunway Pyramid and Lowyat, most say Sandisk is better, but I prefer Kingston, as it have lifetime warranty..

No Sim detected? Try find if IMEI is correct. If no IMEI, means you need flash back EFS

Install CF root to have root access. Once you flashed that, you will have CWM. The link is in XDA forum find for CF-root.

Some Yoobao products are brought over direct from China. Usually it is cheaper and comes with 6 months warranty or less. There are even fake Yoobao products out there, so buy carefully...

Hi guys, any decent file manager that can access hidden folders? I tried using Astro but it can't view/access hidden folders, or i just don't know how to do it
Hi guys, I think i've bricked my S2. Cant even turn on right now. Cant go to downloading mode. Tried many combos and lots of googling still no avail.
I tried to root the ICS, and succeed. Then I tried to get rid of the yellow triangle. Then I had a bootloop, always stuck in the boot screen. Then what I did wrong was applying the PIT file and checked on Re-Partition, as suggest by the other thread. The thing is that PIT file were meant for G version, and Im on non-G version. Didnt read that thru.. im f'ked for my own stupid mistake!
Now, its dead. Cant turn on. Tried soft reset (take off batt and hold power button for 10 secs) as well as hard reset (power + home button). Got that from googling. But still unsolved. Anyway I can fix this? OR any trustable service center (near seri kembangan/puchong/serdang) I can send to? sigh..

Have you tried using a USB Jig to get it into download mode. After that, try flashing again using Odin...
I dont have USB Jig, can borrow? I tot USB Jig was for soft bricked like bootloop?
The funny thing is that when battery was inserted, the handphone become bit hot after a while. Weird, it wasnt even turn on.
if u want to borrow,u can come to lrt station universiti, can use my jig, never try it b4 and dont know how to use it,but bought it from ebay for emergency case.
For the backup power supply,i dont buy it from forums, bought it at IT Fair last february at Mid Valley,i forgot the seller name, but he say he sell the yoobao original in this forums too.For me its quite affective,4400mAH and can charge around 3 time for my phone.

the only thing that this portable charger would not done the trickle charge if already full portable charger still in, it will actually decrease on battery percentage
what is that weird? for me still felt the same as before

First day using Thebyani, battery life was quite good. After that it didn't seem too good. I noticed you can't charge it with USB when plugged into the com :/ Anyone experiencing the same problem? It shows charging but battery percentage decreases.
1. Output for USB charging is slower or smaller than output for wall charger. 2. If you has app running background which takes up more juice than the USB can charge, then of course will decrease.

for portable charger, it will stop charging when your battery reach 100%..

I thought the IP5 will allow us to do nuclear fusion in our backyard. Relieve us from our dependencies on fossil fuels.

+1 Yeah, thats whats happening all right. I dont really see the need for average joes to upgrade to ICS, since GB is good already
And yet i still remember when 90% of S2 user keep asking "Samsung, when will ICS release.? We want it yesterday..!!" When the blardy firmware released and the hooba hooba settled..80% user says "blerghh..what a letdown" :::i've told ya already:::
In my opinion, so many rumors of Samsung Galaxy S III leak, this is the most believable spec & pic.
That isnt the most believable pic, most believable one is the front and side shot with some pr logo down there, that's the best shot of s3 we got now.

With all those problems, i'll rather stick to GB...it's not like there'll be much difference to the features. I have enough hanging on GB already.

i am fine with the features, no need to root. customized ROM stable?? I disagree. Just browse through the thread here and you'll see there's tons of people with even more problems with their hacked ROM. No thanks.
I believe it's not so much of the software...it is Samsung's hardware....Samsung use latest tech packed into the smallest compartment...they're always the thinnest...when you have minituarezed micrpchip electronic hardware packed in the smallest compartment...heat and interference plays a significant role...every additional mm of breathing room counts.
You'll notice HTC phones and iPhone is thicker than top of the line Samsung (currently S2 or Note).
btw, so far my galaxy tab 7.7 not even hang once....

Its cuz most here are on LP7 or LPQ, which is ICS Roms, and having aosp apps in the rom will cause some issues. If u compare lets say CR V6 LA4 vs stock LA4, i would choose CR V6 as its a custom rom, better performance and battery
Stock ROM is already very stable, like i said, have u tried a factory reset?
I myself was on stock rom for a period of time, never hang before

For those who use custom rom without modifying will have like 99% won't hang. However, people like me who love to push further with UV, definitely hang.
The best part, people always blame hang on ROMs, kernels but if you check their phone, macam macam ahem apps ada. And sadly, none will admit to that...pointing fingers ar...........(YOU KNOW WHO)

I really dont know too, most people with hang issues here usually caused by pirated apps ICS ROMs so far dont hang, just some FCs like contacts
Samsung shud address & fix issues before release ICS is so over rated.
LP7 is stable enough already. You won't get any better than that..i think.

On DXLP7, there is no force close on Contacts too...eveything is working fine. Swipe notifications is smooth as well...
You might want to give it a try... ...I mean the Stock DXLP7 by Wanam (Not Wanamlite). He just deodexed, zipaligned and CF Root only. No customisation.

its up to our own personal opinion and selection. why i choosed samsung because the hardware itself is value for money. i mean if we want to pay the same amount of money on samsung or htc or iphone, why do we need to choose the one with less ram, internal memory or etc?
heat is never a problem for my i9100. its just the same on all mobile device. heat will always be there. if don't want heat, we just remove all the casings from our phones or laptops.
again, it up to us to choose..
custom roms is for people who wants to explore the capabilities of their phone. hang or reboot is just a normal thing to us.
again, we can choose to use stock rom or original setting. but one day or later, we will be tempted to try the custom roms from the free android world...
Custom roms are not unstable. Its the users that make it unstable. Not following flashing instructions, not wiping, restoring things they are not suppose to, flashing kernel, flashing themes, playing around with kernel setting but not knowing what they are doing, etc.
Considering the numbers that are on custom roms, those that have problems are minimal. Of cos you see people complain and think the rom is unstable only because people that got problem will post in the forum. The majority that do not have any issue are happily using their device.

OR any trustable service center (near seri kembangan/puchong/serdang) I can send to? sigh..
jsut requoting mysself here; any more input from u guys?
any trustable handphone service center near puchong/seri kembangan/serdan/ area?
On thebyani rom. Now I keep getting the process acore error every now and then...even when I open up chrome. I believe the error derives from contacts but kinda odd the error comes even is on a browser...
want to ask, how much to change samsung s2 screen?my bro dropped his phone today and the screen crack. how much if i change it via samsung centre?
my fren changed it once. over 500 at samsung center. kindly beware some samsung center will tell u, u no more have warranty for some parts you replace later. make sure you confirm with them.

hey guys, sorry for this question. from what i see, apps will always appear to be running in the background eventho i exit it. i just dont understand why it always go on 'standby' or something. or am i doing it wrong?
A friend need to sms in chinese. Could'nt find this feature in S2. Sifus, how to get this feature/app.. thx
I use Go Keyboard, it can easier switch between English / Chinese or any language you pick. Just make sure un-tick slide function at setting to stop the swype keyboard function for better input, unless you prefer swype.
thanks for the answer sifu. so if too many app running in the background, it'll affect the ram right? and it'll makan the battery also?
Battery -> not necessary, it only eats battery if it keeps the phone awake.
RAM -> Yes of course, cached apps take up RAM, but the RAM is controlled by the built in memory manager. Of which parameters can be set if you have root access, but otherwise it is quite efficient. There is no need to set it if the RAM is more than 700mb.

anyway, i just noticed this after i watched a youtube video yesterday. im still on GB and i noticed that when i touch the screen and move my finger slowly, the screen 'jumps' to another point instead of following my finger. tested it with YAMMT. i hope u understand what im trying to say. Guys..do you get a better battery time on ICS OR did it get worse OR roughly the same.? Mine on GB can get 4 - 5 hours screen on time but on ICS it won't even touch 4 hours max. Anybody on ICS manage to achieve 4 hours total screen on time with 1650 mAh battery..??

I prefer go keyboard because I no need hold and press to change keyboard as Go keyboard can instant change from the keyboard itself, also beside normal pinyin, it Chinese handwriting support is extremely great recognition.

A few rules you got to remember.
Backup using cwm. Cwm will backup everything and can restore back easy.
Titanium backup pro backups apps. Use this to backup apps.
Smsbackup+ is for backup SMS and it will save in your email. Can restore once you are done.

What people don't realize is thinking advance setting actually saves juice. Advance setting saves juice if you know how to set it right. If you set it wrong, your phone will burn juice faster.
I uses advance and totally have no problem with it. On heavy usage, I can last 12-14 hours. Considering like heavy using about 3-4 hours. The rest are light stuffs.

wipe in cwm means all setting wipe. Inside sd and ext sd untouched.

No, it doesn't wipe data like photos, etc inside internal SD card.
If you format SD card, then everything habis, folders, photos, files, everything... except those bare minimum folder and files for the phone OS to boot up.
i was planning to get one from garage sales after hearing comments from one of the forumer of this thread.

I uses advance and totally have no problem with it. On heavy usage, I can last 12-14 hours. Considering like heavy using about 3-4 hours. The rest are light stuffs.
How you define "heavy"? For me, heavy is like playing games which drains 30% battery per hour for me.

Wah... Try this.
Check your sd can find for efs backup. Check if you have it.
If worst case and can't find a way to solve it, pm me. I will guide step by step how to get it back which works for me.
If you efs back up, use wifi and download htool. Use that to restore. I might reply slow as I am going for meeting

My heavy is 3 hours battery dead. Full hd game, mp3 running and now and then browsing.

muahahahahahaha. the poison spread to SGSII forum d lol. but then our ICS plan will be delayed to Q2....
i rather wait for decades to get a full functioning official update from samsung rather than half-baked shits jz to match up the announced date. for meanwhile leaked ICS is more than enuff to me

Luckily before this i backed up my /efs folder (which contains my IMEI) and i'd try a lot of method last week when my phone suddenly have no IMEI..
what u can do is to follow a tutorial from xda-dev and if i'm not mistaken its under the General Android help, title is something like "restoring IMEI" or sumthing.. Go search at xda-developers.com okay?
im lucky i got a very2 old backup of my IMEI.. after 3days of 'No Sim' and blank IMEI. i restore my IMEI using Hellcat's K-Tool..
Try to find the thread in xda-dev yah? I posted the link in the previous thread (v29) if u can find it *grin*

actually, i acknowledge the hot issue. but its not that serious. even at the hottest, its just very warm. i find it very uncomfortable to hold also, when i play asphalt 6. especially the camera area.
but just underclock to 1GHz, the heat significantly reduce. i dont have a thermo camera to give you exact figures, but its reach to a level where i find comfortable.
if you're rooted, download rom toolbox, use the cpu slider to set it to 1GHz. trust me you'll feel the difference in temperature.
been using my phone at 1GHz all this while. no drop in performance. happy with it :-)
*however, the "heating" issue only during gaming, normal usage wont get that hot. if yours hot till "hands get burn", then maybe your unit really got problem

Sometimes people will find relatively insignificant things to badger over. As long as it doesn't get uncomfortable to use, I think the temperature wouldn't be noticed.

I have to say though, if a person who's not into tech and isn't a power user asks me which phone to recommend, I'll say iPhone. Easy, no need to think, what you see is what you get. Grid of icons, to enter an app, just press that icon. Anything, defer to iTunes. It's the perfect smartphone for tech noobs.
Of course, once you're ready to take training wheels off and have a far richer experience, Android is the way to go.

That's it, after a week using ICS, I am fed up with the lagging and the sluggishness of ICS, reverting back to GB.. Stable and smooth and battery saver.. GB FTW !

hi, since when you flashed? please check under running services is 'media' running? if so, the media scanner is still running. first time you flash ICS it will scan and will take a very long time. you can try unmount ur microsd card in settings>storage then mount it back after media scanning is completed, then it will scan ur sdcard too before complete.
telltale signs is, camera cannot open, no music/pictures that are in your microsdcard displayed in music/gallery

It's not motherboard foulty. Imei lost sometimes just depends on luck. Imei number is unique, if loss then the whole motherboard need to be changed. Yours is g version?

well this is electronic item when it's been mass produce and there will be some that having problem those unlucky one will get it
I wanna revert back to GB. I've already backed up using Titanium backup and CWM. I'll just wait for the official ICS to come out. So what or how should I revert back? If I use GB ROM, would I be able to check whether the official ICS is out already for my phone?

yup, mine is g-version.. i think when i said that sim card not detected and my imei number is not displayed then they assume that they have to change the motherboard.. the thing is my sgs2 is brand new, how come I have to change my motherboard.. takkan lah motherboard corrupt kot..

You can find it at Sammobile or from intratech at xda. Nandroid backup is backup using cwm. Did you backup before you went to ics?

Did you open your files before flashing with Odin. Files should be .tar ot .tar.md5 for Odin while zip is for flashing using CWM.
I did. It was .md5 Very small file. 8mb only. I'm gonna do this (http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-unroot/how-to-unrootunbrick-your-galaxy-s2-i9100-ics/) Can?

Look for full stock firmware from sammobile. Latest local firmware is DXKL3. Extract the files into .tar.md5 then flash using Odin. Full firmware usually above 500mb.

Yeah, all I can say is that Samsung released the official ROM ICS in a hurry, so I am doing the same thing, flashing back to GB, until Samsung released the official "official" ICS rom with no battery bugs and other glitches..

If you downad correctly is suppose to be a big file. Not just 8mb. I remember it was pretty big.
You has to download the Odin version not cwm one...

Finally flashed back to GB, but one thing I missed about the ICS is the boot time, it's so much faster compared to GB, but the wifi connection on ICS is so slow, GB is so fast.. But still sticking to GB for now, much much better and no glitches compared to ICS..
Finally able to download chrome from play store, and this TOTALLY beats stock browser. Good and smooth animations, good interface and good loading speeds. Suggest everyone on ICS to try it out

Best one of all. Said bye bye to dolphin already. But once in a while (quite seldom) will get a hang. But still a superb app
Then why don't you just make your own god damned rom.seriously, come out late you complain, come out early you complain.drain battery you complain.so many people complain about your post why do you still post here.even gods will have their moment of out of control when encounter you.

i havent tried chrome on phone. reverted back to GB too soon. should've tried it before reverted.
but i have it on my tab 10.1(with Kang ICS), chrome totally lose to stock ics browser on tab. in terms of scrolling smoothness, flash support, style, and wasted screen estate. (the tabs bar on top of screen is too thick), other than that the overall UI is the same
not sure why its so overated. guess chrome makes more sense on a phone than on a tablet.

I prefer go keyboard because I no need hold and press to change keyboard as Go keyboard can instant change from the keyboard itself, also beside normal pinyin, it Chinese handwriting support is extremely great recognition.
I agree, Go keyboard has the best multilingual input so far, even so if you type english+chinese+japanese, can switch between them instantly. Also the japanese input is quite complete. And ya the chinese handwriting support is quite accurate. Now if only they fix the annoying bug which I've been bugging them for the past few months via email spamming..
Flashed ICS Thebyani ICS Rom V3.5 + Siyah 3.0 beta 4.. I thought Siyah mentioned that he will fix the touch sensitivity first hand, but apparently still the same haihz
But chrome itself made ICS upgrade worthwhile

I just download and try Go keyboard. It's indeed a great keyboard with swipe supported. I throw away touchPal and use Go keyboard now It comes with so many languages, this is really nice. Japanese words also recognized well.

er... go keyboard is good, except it's dictionary function which gets a lot of complains (i don't use dictionary at all so i'm not affected also I heard that the swipe has some issues but again I don't use it so.. good luck!

for those who are on ICS.. and using the normal swipe to unlock lock screen.. if u put ur finger on the screen before u turn on the screen.. will ur unlock circle keep follow u and it wont unlock so easily?.. u need to retouch ur screen to be able to unlock it easily..

I'm facing this problem all the time. The "low" sensitivity of the touch screen make me difficult to unlock screen lock. sometime have to wait few minutes for the mandatory waiting period after several times of unlock failure. quite troublesome.

It depends. I faced this before and realized that it is caused by UV the lowest value. If you UV, I suggest try stock value when you play.

I would say it depends. Can be caused by the sp as well. My ip4s sp is from momax. Sometime, due to some 'unknown magnetic field', just can't unlock. Rube on your clothes 1-2 times and solve the problem. But if you use clear sp, should nto be an issue. Usually feel the problem when uses matte type.

I think chrome mainly meants for phones, stock browser on tablets seem good enough. Really like the swiping animations to switch tabs
Also, anyone here experience lag when on m.youtube.com in chrome? On other webpages scrolling is smooth, but on m.youtube.com scrolling is terrible, very jerky

Make report (police and LYN) is your only chance. But I doubt you'd have much luck getting your money back since there's really no buyer protection system here unless you got it via lelong.com.my
Also, if he said it's SGP hybrid, it's implied its genuine.
Imitations shouldn't even be allowed to be for sale if its labeled as the original.

Some iphone lovers bragged that their iOS version have more levels than our free Android version. True?
Really? Not sure too
edit: Just checked, iOS have extra 35 levels, while android version will hav 35 extra levels if its a samsung phone. So we get the same amount of levels compare to iOS, but we get it for free

I like Chrome too. Funnily enough I can swipe from left to right to switch tab but can't do so the other way around. I see from the youtube it works both way
Hey, anyone knows how to backup the music (stock app) playlist? I read mybackup pro can do it, anyone with some personal experience?

my friend's phone softkey is spoil. the option/menu softkey, the touch button on the left of the home button.
his contact is all saved to his phone, not google. he cant get his contact out and ask me for help.
the easiest would be google contact sync, but since that "menu" softkey is not working, there is no way to change the settings in contact to sync with google contacts.
i'm totally out of ideas how to solve this. is there any app that can export all contacts out?

Android users should totally use google contact sync. I mean why not? You can sync your contact across multiple phones and no more worries of losing contacts when you lose your phone/brick your phone.

You need to enable from 'charging' to 'MTP' or memory card

Did any of you face this thing?
Always la.. but most of us are using custom ROMs, so could be a variety of factor, kernel, Over Volting/Under Voltings etc. Stock ROM should be more stable I presumed.
Next time, no need to take out battery. Just pressed the On/Off button together with the home screen for 8 seconds, then your phone will go off. Just turn it ON again afterward.

Hmm...What is your kernal? Have you tweak CPU? If the lowest cpu MHZ too low, sometimes it cannot wake up after sleep.

Do you undervolt?
Im kinda NOOB about customizing android phones....the only thing I do is jus installing apps from market....n ....thats about it i think .....no I din undervolt my phone....
Note: Of course this application is not charging your phone. You didn't think so, did you?! The only reason for this app is to collect the mentally challenged trolls - who never read the description this far - complaining about every app. Or you can fool your friends with this nice 'charging feature' if you like.
1. Transfer files, you need to install the drivers via kies, then just plug. Do not run kies after that, because you only need drivers. S2 will be like a thumbdrive.
2. The phone cannot consume the battery, it has no mouth or digestive system. But in terms of depleting the battery's charge, I would say it really depends on your usage. For me 1 day I can get by probably until 50%.

You can use any file explorer and check your DCIM folder for camera pictures.
If its empty, probably means its gone.
