What you talking about they beg you to apply?

I think your reason to get a card is kind of ridiculous.

If it was a guy would you apply for the card?  tongue.gif

Anyway, what you so worried about getting lower CL? You need how much CL with card from Citibank?

haha, actually i dont have any obligation to apply for any credit card. i stick to use maybank credit card.

few months back one agent in shopping complex approached me and well, she was literally begging me to apply for it saying that just apply whether later got can reject. i was kinda soft hearted so i just applied.

well the same thing happened today and she told the same (this time different person, different bank) but this time i told her to wait, give me her contact number and i will think about it.

please dont get me wrong this is not about girl or guy approaching me. this is how they approached. normally those agents will approached me and i will just walk by and they dont have interest to follow me for quite a distance and begging me for it.

i am not so worried about credit limit, actually just thinking. so i am asking thats all. this credit limit comes to my mind when i was thinking about whether to take another credit card or not.

apply for credit cards which you don't need:
1) increased your total credit exposure in CCRIS
2) RM50 GST for each card
3) increased risk of card misplaced/fraud

So with (1), your new credit card limit depends on it, unless you earn way above the norm. You might even be rejected if the bank thinks you are over exposed

Nah, I don't think Citibank will reject as they "hadap" for customers and they are known to give pretty generous credit limit; but, if you say OCBC then I agree tongue.gif

I think (3) is the most important thing to consider when one is holding a card, hassle when lost or with higher CL bigger headache when fraud occurs.

Hi, I need some advise here:

I have applied for the housing loan from the Public Bank (PBB) and was successfully taken the loan from them. However, Public Bank has given me a credit card based on that. I don't like that card as it is not beneficial. The PBB cs said that I need to use at least 3 times within two months with a min spending of RM80 each in order to get the rebate of RM 50 to cover the GST payment.

My question is if I don't activate the card, will PBB still charge me GST RM 50?

Thanks for the advice.

Yes, GST is charged once the card is approved and not necessarily activated or not.

You are not the first one to complain here that you have been issued a cc by PBB because of your loan with them.

If the card is in your hand, you need to pay the GST.

Options -

1) Pay the RM50 and keep the card for a year. PBB reward points/cash back is amongst the worst but who knows, you may get to save some money from their discount promotions at selected outlets.

2) If you thinks it is a matter of principle that you should not be issue the card, call Customer Service and tell them you do not wish to have the card as you did not apply for it (i.e. you don't remember checking any box or read anything that you be issued a credit card in any of the forms you signed and also you did not give verbal consent to the agent for any credit card to be issued). Recommend you record the conversation (use your mobile phone lah), write down the person's name and time of conversation. If PBB insist you pay the GST, email to BNM to complain that you were issued a credit card from PBB without your consent.

3) go swipe the card 3 times as you mentioned and get the GST rebate.

According to custom department, only those renewed card but cancelled within 3 months and not use the new card is eligible not to pay GST.

Refer last statement. Seems the site doesn't allow me to copy and paste for whatever reason.

I have a mastercard which has NOT been used for 3 years and no GST has EVER been charged on it - until this year when suddenly a RM50 GST was imposed. So the question is for a card that has not been used during the entire year, is the card holder still liable for the GST?

It is puzzling why they did not charge you. If Custom Department does an audit to that FI, they will be hit hard.

Anyway, if you do not use yet you do not cancel; technically you are still required to pay the tax. The only caveat is you cancel the card within 3 months of the renewal as specified in the website.

Thank you very much.
