Hi bro lwliam,

Nice photo! Before nex I shoot with my 4yrs old A200+1750, and had used to the IQ, I comparing the 1750, 17mm and nex 16mm, under similar condition, similar setting, 4yrs old a200+1750@17mm is much much at least 300% better than my 1.5yrs old nex5+16mm... In term if sharpness, details, colours, no fight at all... Only if that combination is too bulky... And to be frank, my LX-3 at 24mm seems to have better IQ than nex 16mm...

I might be unlucky and get an inferior copy, that's why looking for replacement to gain back my confidence with nex.

I had snap some photos using Sony NEX-5N with 16mm lens without any filter / adapter. I don't think the output is that bad as online review. They is no vignette issue and not really have softening on side.

Attached below photos with different aperture, photo unmodified beside add-on signature only.

I use AWB all the time, unless I want something different, I find it AWB ok and kind of accurate.

Yes, i do love my 16mm as well... really not as bad as review out there..
maybe the 19mm is better but the size of 16mm lens do make my 5n looks like a pocket camera... rclxm9.gif

Excellent pano shots! Especially the 2nd image! Encapsulates the vastness of the grounds and the cathedral by having human as a size reference.

Actually, there's many things u can do to stabilise the cam. I put the cam on the bridge railings, then put my finger under the lens to tilt the camera up a bit for the angle I want. Then use 2 sec timer to trigger the shot without moving the shutter when the exposure is taken.

If I may ask, what is the largest size photo you will be printing to? My largest is 8R/A4 size. All my images from the 16mm have no visible issue at that size. I don't mean to disrespect, but if you come up with that decision due to pixel peeping, then I really think you should deeply reconsider this issue.

Added on August 12, 2012, 9:50 pm@samsungfreak

To my defence, the photo above was shot with the fisheye adapter, and as mentioned, filters will degrade an image, what more its at the extreme edges in the mentioned image above. And it's focused at infinity, the bridge is a few meters from where I was standing, with f/5.6, the foreground will not be in full focus.

The NEX3 does not have vignette reduction in camera, and even in my post process workflow, I do not do any vignette correction. In fact, I add vignette to images more instead of taking them out. So far for the Alpha line, only the A77 has this function, and even that, only compatible lenses can utilise this function.

Added on August 12, 2012, 9:54 pm@noobiba

The 17-50 is a very sharp lens. Pancake lenses like the 16mm has its compromises to make it achieve the compact size as it is, which is by compromising maximum optical performance. Else, for an f/2.8 lens, one would expect the lens element to be huge if it to be able to perform excellent optically.

Haha, don't worry William, if you think it is good and it serve you well, do enjoy it. At the end it is a hobby is about enjoyment. rclxms.gif

I bought the 16mm 2nd hand, so that I can use the fisheye adapter ( also 2nd hand). Total price of lens and adapter is less than 500. If I were to get the fisheye for A mount, it's gonna be in the 1k range, AND it's gonna be MF only.
