QUOTE(jimmyyap03 @ Mar 28 2012, 12:18 AM) Anyone using on optomax 135mm f2.8 lens? Any comment on it? Wonder to get it to start my 'zoom lens'journey' The 135mm f/2.8 isn't a zoom lens, it's a prime lens, meaning the angle of view is not going to change. And for the record as well, it's a Manual Focus lens (not that it's not hard to use when Manual Peaking Mode is used), but it's just so you know.This post has been edited by lwliam: Mar 28 2012, 12:33 AM |

beelze_gpwk: many people has been using a non-tilting screen for many decades without any issues. having the tilt screen just eases your task, you just need to do it the old fashion way when it's in portrait orientation. same thing goes with my NEX 3.
need more tilt angle? get A77/65/55/35/33/580/550/450/380/350/300/...etc.. This post has been edited by lwliam: Mar 28 2012, 10:32 AM |

QUOTE(toughnut @ Mar 30 2012, 11:14 AM) I can make a comparison tonight with both lens. SEL50F18 seem much sharper and better contrast/color than 1855 although my 1855 copy quite good too So I take it that you have the 7? sweet! Added on March 30, 2012, 11:18 am It comes with 7. Look pretty and match the black body BUT once scratched, gonna be ugly I guess. |

QUOTE(toughnut @ Mar 30 2012, 05:26 PM) Yeah, got the 7 kit set but hardly have time to play with it. Tonight gonna be free so can test power with some lowlight shooting. With the kit lens, I highly doubt you can truly test the 24mp's full potential. When I was at USS the other day, I saw a couple was using a NEX7 with SEL 18-200... I was like WHOAAAA~!!!!This post has been edited by lwliam: Mar 30 2012, 05:51 PM |

QUOTE(ntdote @ Mar 30 2012, 07:19 PM) Hi guys, My gorillapod is always in my travel camera bag. Comes in handy.What kind of tripod u guys using? Any recommendation for portable tripod for travelling? Budget around 300-400 TQ Added on March 30, 2012, 9:02 pm QUOTE(kel_jink @ Mar 30 2012, 06:40 PM) USS!? BTW I heard the NEX 7's sensor is very hard on the lens, anyone care to elaborate on that? Or proof? Oh just got my CY and Nikon adapter, let's try out my Zeiss jena 135 and 28 and Yashica 50 1.4 (TEST ALL THE LENS!!!) tonight! Universal Studios Singapore. Saw that toughnut is from Singapore, so thought he'd know the acronym. And yes the 24 MPs demands a lot from the lens you put in front of it. Same story goes with my A77 This post has been edited by lwliam: Mar 30 2012, 09:03 PM |

question: what is the point of the viewfinder on the NEX (the old optical one, not the new EVF type) when you can't turn off the live view on the screen anyway?

Hi Noobiba and samsungfreak,
I'm not sure if this can be used to convince you guys otherwise regarding your sentiments on the 16.. f/2.8 lens, but I don't seem to have any issues with it even with a very basic NEX3. Furthermore, as you know attaching anything to the front of any lens will definitely degrade the image quality by a fair bit however little it may be. But do consider looking through these images in my blog and give your opinion on my so-so images... taken with NEX3 with 16mm f/2.8 lens with fisheye adapter in front. http://williamleong.blogspot.com/2012/01/f...-singapore.html ![]() 20120115_0130 by william leong, on Flickr Camera Sony NEX-3 Exposure 5 Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 16 mm ISO Speed 200 Exposure Bias +1 EV Flash Off, Did not fire This post has been edited by lwliam: Aug 12 2012, 05:36 PM |

QUOTE(Noobiba @ Aug 12 2012, 02:21 PM) Hi bro Nlik, samsungfreak, So basically, what you're saying is that you've only read about it and have not tested it personally? 16mm vignettes badly? Sorry, I don't see it. Just taken out my 16mm and tested at all apertures. Doesn't seem to affect much even when shooting on a white wall. Stopped down, yes, it does sharpen the image up.During auto wb, my slr is much much accurate, 16mm show cold blueish color, and not pleasant at all. I lost my confident on 1855 kit lens as read from review it's not that good thats why opt for 19mm. I doesn't really fancy bout big aperture unless shooting at dark area. 16mm corner vigimetting is very serious even stop down to f/8, can't believe Sony made a prime lens like this, hehe now looking for either the sigma 19mm, or rx100, or both (hopefully), I'm shooting more on street so a compact and light camera is important for me. |

If I may ask, what is the largest size photo you will be printing to? My largest is 8R/A4 size. All my images from the 16mm have no visible issue at that size. I don't mean to disrespect, but if you come up with that decision due to pixel peeping, then I really think you should deeply reconsider this issue.
Added on August 12, 2012, 9:50 pm@samsungfreak To my defence, the photo above was shot with the fisheye adapter, and as mentioned, filters will degrade an image, what more its at the extreme edges in the mentioned image above. And it's focused at infinity, the bridge is a few meters from where I was standing, with f/5.6, the foreground will not be in full focus. The NEX3 does not have vignette reduction in camera, and even in my post process workflow, I do not do any vignette correction. In fact, I add vignette to images more instead of taking them out. So far for the Alpha line, only the A77 has this function, and even that, only compatible lenses can utilise this function. Added on August 12, 2012, 9:54 pm@noobiba The 17-50 is a very sharp lens. Pancake lenses like the 16mm has its compromises to make it achieve the compact size as it is, which is by compromising maximum optical performance. Else, for an f/2.8 lens, one would expect the lens element to be huge if it to be able to perform excellent optically. This post has been edited by lwliam: Aug 12 2012, 11:26 PM |

@Ah hao
Excellent pano shots! Especially the 2nd image! Encapsulates the vastness of the grounds and the cathedral by having human as a size reference. |

Actually, there's many things u can do to stabilise the cam. I put the cam on the bridge railings, then put my finger under the lens to tilt the camera up a bit for the angle I want. Then use 2 sec timer to trigger the shot without moving the shutter when the exposure is taken.

I bought the 16mm 2nd hand, so that I can use the fisheye adapter ( also 2nd hand). Total price of lens and adapter is less than 500. If I were to get the fisheye for A mount, it's gonna be in the 1k range, AND it's gonna be MF only.

Noobiba, indeed the vignette in your photo is pretty serious. But I guess it doesn't show in shots taken outdoors and without plain colora
