Don't remember if it's SATA 6. Don't know what you mean by "nice stuff".The server come with nice stuff ?? Got any hardware issue from it ? Their management software can one click open virtual window ? There's one issue we're facing where the server won't POST until you unplug/replug its power from the wall. Started doing this after one very bad lightning strike. We bought the server cheap anyway - less than RM3k, thanks to Dell DFO |

That's why you should read the manual. What you want to do isn't a supported config and your server probably won't boot. The manual has details on the restrictions on how you can configure the RAM on page 123. 4. What functions specifically? 5. Yes, if budget allows for it. 6. DFO = Dell Factory Outlet, i.e. refurbished systems 7. We're using Debian Linux. |

SSD + SATA? You mean SSD + HDD? As long as it's configured properly, you can have any combination of SSD and/or HDD. But if RAID must be between the same mechanic, i.e. SSD + SSD or HDD + HDD. 8GB DDR3 for RM300? Probably the non-ECC, for the buffered or ECC (server RAM) the price could be double or higher, you can't mix ECC with non-ECC RAM, it's most recommended to use ECC RAM for critical workstation and server, although the performance could be lower. Currently looking at the Crucial M4, but seems that Samsung 830 is also a viable option for non-sandforce ssds. Anyone here uses the 830? Would like to know the general reliability of it.

The 830 hasn't been out long enough to comment on reliability issues. But judging from Samsung's history, their 470 series was about as reliable as Intel's. They do place reliability above all else. |

Does format alone able to restore the SSD to its original performance?

QUOTE(ah_fong @ Jan 20 2012, 10:33 AM) Max IOPS is mostly marketing, very much like gaming RAM, and it is very unlikely that end-users will feel a difference between a Vertex 3 Max IOPS and a regular Vertex 3 - even more so once your honeymoon with your new SSD is over.If you don't have an SSD, any decent SSD will make you swear off HDDs for your boot drive. If you already have an SSD, the only reason you should upgrade is to increase your storage capacity. Anything else and you're just burning money for the luxury; better to save a little to spend on a GPU upgrade or something else. |

QUOTE(tskhang @ Jan 19 2012, 09:21 PM) It depends whether you are going to perform it on TRIM or non TRIM ssd, quick or long format does not restore your drive performance in long run but short term.Download hpparm and run secure erase option, http://hdparm.sourceforge.net/ You could test it on your own before and after secure erase to see whether your drive goes back to initial new condition with read/write speed. |

Games are optimised to minimise the impact of slow HDDs as much as possible, so SSDs are unlikely to improve performance for some games. You are likely to see a bigger performance difference in your OS boot up, web browsing, virus scans and etc than you would in your games by changing to an SSD. |

Does the capacity affect the speed?
I have 1 Samsung 830 128GB on hand. Don't know whether to keep it myself or sell it off. Anandtech YouTube video review mentioned about speed differences between 128GB & 256GB. |
