Sometimes i just too curious to know that ssd maker claim their ssd with MTBF=2 million hours rated. If this is so,why only 3 years warranty which is even shorter than mechanical hhd's 5 years warranty with MTBF=100,000 hours ?

Let's say,i put 2000 pieces of ssd into test and run for 2000 hours, but unfortunately 1 of the 2000 fails after duration of the 2000 hours test.
So i could declare that my ssds that running fine after 2000 hours has a MTBF=4 million hours. smile.gif

That probability distribution before failure will be acceptably low,but that does not guarantee the remaining working ssd will not fails after, says 2001 hours.

Opinions welcome.

Sorry. I only up to date during the 1st generation of momentus hybrid drive. The rest i hv no idea.
May be i will buy one SSD and put it into my laptop. So, i may be can run some programme efficiently. I still got alot of server thing remain unknown.

I dont think you need a server to run your apps,a decent built desktop/workstation would just suffice.
Also look for laptop equipped with

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chi...m-chipsets.html

chipsets to fully utilize sata 3 6Gb/s ssd,or just look for a macbook with sata 3 port enable.

Does format alone able to restore the SSD to its original performance?
Long or quick format?
*
It depends whether you are going to perform it on TRIM or non TRIM ssd, quick or long format does not restore your drive performance in long run but short term.
Download hpparm and run secure erase option,
http://hdparm.sourceforge.net/

You could test it on your own before and after secure erase to see whether your drive goes back to initial new condition with read/write speed.

Meaning if you format a TRIM enabled SSD using Windows 7, it will restore back to its original performance?
I read somewhere that secure erase is used for non TRIM enabled SSD.
*
Format,or write all data to zero does not restore back to full performance, but improves drastically.
Yes,you could do it with start command prompt 'diskpart' and choose your ssd partition to proceed with in TRIM enabled ssd.But that's just a format and there's no guarantee whether you could restore back fully to initial performance.

your score still very high....i am using Corsair Force 3 120GB Sata 3 on Sata 2 port but only managed to get 167MB read and 100MB write. I got a few question want to ask expert here as below:

a) Will it because my mobo dont support ACHI so the speed is so slow?
b) Any effect by using it for dual OS booting? Using it with 3 partitions : OSX Lion 1| Lion 2| Win7
c) besides, TRIM is enabled inside Win 7. This partition is about 60GB. But inside OSX cant support TRIM. In this situation, TRIM is covered 60GB under Win 7 or is covered whole SSD?
*
As your force 3 will only run on ide mode not even sata 1 speed.Currently running force GT 90GB & 120GB on sata 2 board with 280MB read and 272MB write, that's the max speed a sata 2 ssd can get.TRIM is enable only when you set it on win 7(even without achi),not the entire ssd.

Ps:Ts,pls look for post #77(page 4) to be include in the list.

The most important thing is how the shipper declared the item. By right ssd is not supposed to be taxed. It is on the kastam database under computer storage category
*
It is wrong to declare it under value, they will follow the rules strictly with no exception.I'm pretty sure that pc components including ssd is taxable, even books and clothing as well. And the duty imposed ranging from 5% to 15%

You could do it base on the hs code alone,it should be the initial and not the latter code.

ic. thanks for the advice, anyhow how  are we going to find out if the mobo can support sata 2 or 3. ive been searching using google, but failed

Also laptop's mobo with achi enable, you are no where even you do have sata 3 port but will run on ide mode instead.

You wont/hard to understand ssd as you dont have your own one at hand,by the same analogy hard for you to practice piano even you know the theory and music sheets but without a 'physical' piano.

thanks for the info. how about the laptop im about to buy? using AMD E-450. it should not be included inside the intel website right?

well since i someone said i cant differentiate the speed of sata 2 or 3 if used in a dm1, i should just get the sata 2, since ill be using it for 2-3 years,

and after that, new and cheaper technology will come out if i want to change my lappy, and i wont be using the same ssd then?
*
AMD proc sure wont appear at intel's website mah, lol.
The speed differences is there, may be you're not aware of it but i can feel it especially when you open photoshop cs5,boot up time and alike.
Sata 3 is just last year tech,if the price difference is minimal i'd to get sata 3 instead.
