this elantra is one of the better cars in its class, if not the best, and here people are whining about its price, why should it be priced lower than a H or a T? besides, most here have never owned a hyundai before, and comments are mostly heresay from friends and mechanics.

So you will be buying one then?
@ RM120k ?

my take, for the elantra or any others, buy if you can afford to pay the price (max 5 years installment), else look for a cheaper car. whining will get you no where.

I doubt even with the shitty Inokom logo the 1.6 will priced above 100k. If so then sime darby is shooting themselves on the foot doh.gif

expected price = 115k (previous rumours)
hoping price = below 110k for full spec 1.8
unpleasant surprise = more than 115k or perhaps 120k for fullspec sweat.gif doh.gif whistling.gif

if that's true, hopefully nobody bother to buy this car so that at least give some slap to Sime Darby....

deep in my heart, hoping Naza will get to become Hyundai's distributor here in Malaysia...they might have sucks service but at least they got better pricing (proven with the likes those peugeot cars, Forte etc)....But, this one not going to happen sad.gif

Its not about affording or not, sure RM120k is not much for a car... but its whether you are getting value for your $, and with the bigger then average drop in 2nd hand value of korean cars, its not looking too attractive currently

you think of resale value if you cannot afford the drop, the parts prices and service cost.

you think of value for $ when you think of its long spec sheet (if it has one), awards won & good reviews.

The way I look at it.

Buying a car u have a value lost over the years, cant be help.

Buying THIS car u have a Bigger then average loss over the year. If over 3 years I lost an extra 30k compared to say buying an accord.

I might as well put in the extra 30k initially and buy a different car, and at RM120k, I can just buy a Rm150k jap, and I doubt the specs would be much less compared to elantra.

As for korean cars, I have 2 at home now, their drop is bigger then what i woudl like, my proton/nissan depreciation is still acceptable.

As for being able to "afford" it or not, that is a different thing all together, just cause I can afford it doesnt mean I should make a bad buying decision which will end up costing me more $$ then it should have.

How does anyone know? Its new, no one will know for SURE.

But, come on, are you trying to convince people that Elantra will have a SMALLER average loss over the years then an accord?! doh.gif

awards and review written else where won't necessarily fit our situation...

like i said before, it has won good review and award not bcoz its a great car, but a good car at a good price. cheaper than its competitors. feature packed (which some are useless for us like heated rear seats). design wise, its really subjective, so lets not talk bout it for now. hyundai also has high resale value in US, due to brand image.

none of the above is valid for us.

affordability n spending money wisely are 2 different things. if u fail to understand this, chances are ur a rich brat who's still spending daddy's money. Or u just fail at managing ur own finance.

if ur rich and don't care bout resale value, good for u. but it matters for a lot of ppl.

and... wud u buy it at 120K? u din really answer the question.

i forgot to mention the inokok badge... i dunno bout u... but it gives me the same feeling bout inspira n lancer. same car, but somehow different....

its simple, if cannot afford the price over a 5 years loan, look for cheaper car. if can afford and willing to accept whatever loss that will arise, buy it. its better than to whine about what prices SD place over the car and how it compares with other marques.

now i m not saying elantra conquers all cuz this depends on the specs given and yes foreign reviews and awards may not represent the local car and its environment. let's us wait for 20th feb.

am i willing to plonk 120k on this car? done much higher doh.gif however SC service is way better than H & T. rclxms.gif
