I'm guessing the market place will be available in end of February, after reading some posts here I think it matches quite well. According to Microsoft Malaysia, students can win away a Nokia Lumia phone (not sure which phone) for the first 30 students who can publish 50 Apps onto the marketplace, which is kinda ridiculous unless you're making crap apps.

Also, today I went to The Gardens to see the Lumia phones, Nokia store was quite empty really, but Samsung and Machine was crowded. :swt:

Are you talking about the promotion which Nokia Singapore is currently running? It's first 30 people, who publish one app a month for 6 months. Or are you talking about some other promo?

at least i feel Nokia is the only one pushing out or marketting the Windows Phone platform seriously... before this my opinion is that HTC, Samsung and LG doesn't make any marketting stuff for their Windows Phone  shakehead.gif

hopefully when Nokia officially launch Lumia here, those Nokia staff are well trained and equipped to push out those Lumias and Windows Phone platform...  rclxm9.gif

I wish too, today the promoter didn't even bother to promote but facebook with the phone, hahaha!

Nokia Drive works very fast! drool.gif And the clear black AMOLED is certainly very nice and put my HD7 to shame.

Anyway, lot's of Lumia phones there except the 710s which are all dummy sets.

I wanna share this scene with you all what I saw today and hopefully you can picture it, it reflects the whole market of smart phones.
Let's picture the first store is Machine, Samsung in the middle and at the corner is the Nokia store.
So what happen today, the first store was amazingly flooded with people and while Samsung store was not so bad while Nokia store was quite quiet so from here you can put | iOS | Android | WP7.5 |

Get it? doh.gif

I see... the competition is run by the student partners... kinda overkill the way they're doing it like this.

Nope, Lumia is not available for sale yet as Nokia will be holding an official launching event here. They only have the demo unit available at the Nokia Store as a run up to the launching event. Even the Price is not set for Lumia 800 at the store when asked, the guy mentioned around RM 1.8k. No news on Lumia 710 when asked, I suspect that 710 perhaps could be a good potential for carrier phone.

cry.gif but sadly not a single carrier here are carrying the 2nd generation of WP7 phone so far...

Personally I don't see why there's a need for it to be a carrier phone. Its not like the phone would be much more cheaper (from what I can see)

we never relied much on carrier selling phone in Malaysia for a while until iPhone dropped.

Prove me wrong, are phones that are sold by carriers much more cheaper?

Don't lose hope. Only in 2010 Samsung has really gained market traction.

Back before the Galaxy days (even the Galaxy S wasn't so well received), Samsung was practically a nothing in mobile phone industry.

A lot of people in Malaysia still trust Nokia, hopefully Nokia can follow up well.

Yeah, carrier-discount in Malaysia is pretty much non-existent except for iPhone cause Apple impose strict regulations on it.

But sewing the trend, carrier-tied phones will be more and more aggresive, only the future will tell how it will affect Malaysians.

Agreed with you... hopefully Nokia can somehow do it with Lumia 710 and make it more affordable to penetrate the market... sigh***

Hmmm.... have you tried given the BT action button a light press to see wheter it connects?

I just got an XBox 360 BT headset and it does play the music through BT once paired.

Through my observation, video media are played over the loudspeaker, while audio media is played through the Bluetooth headsets.

Not sure if this is a bug or by design.

The thing is WP7 isn't exactly beautiful. It's plain and simple but it's a whole lot of fun to use. It's intuitive and has the easiest learning curve, and Tellme is really good.

However, it really lacks the zing offered by droids and iOS. Even I, the owner of 4 windows phones, is drooling over the SGS2 because the games are sooooo much smoother and more fluid. Better games too! The widgets aren't that great, but it is better than the single tile limitation in WP7. Microsoft should just let developers have double wide/double long tiles on the Home screen, that will really add to Winphone's beauty.

You see smooth games on droids and iOS because they allow native access for devs so that they can bring their engines over effortlessly. WP7 on the other hand requires devs to build using XNA or Silverlight, thereby putting a lot of restrictions on developers.

However, it is rumoured that native access will be opened to devs come Apollo.

I don't agree with giving too much access to devs to play with the Home screen or it might just become another android. Current Home is good enough for me.

i somewhat gotto agree with you on the fluidity of games in android.
The android OS is not smooth to me, but the games has no lag in it at all but in my mozart some games does lag in the middle of the game at some time.

The iOS and Android devs have had a few years to figure out how to use the platform properly. You can't compare it with a platform that's only slightly more than a year old. It's up to the developers to know how to write their code to perform the best on the platform, things don't just magically get better when you can write native code.

In fact if you let people write native code, and they're still as irresponsible as they are right now you'll just end up with an unstable phone. What would your complaint be then?

The XNA/Silverlight games are pretty unstable too, they'd crash right in mid-game laugh.gif

If you've ever attempted to program games in XNA, you'd realize its restrictions. My point about native access was against s2peMocls for saying that WP7 lacks games. Many devs have already voiced out that they want native access to port their game engines over, and they are waiting.
