sad.gif  Too bad... I am also scratching my head.

I may still not be able to help solve your online account link problem. However, I do have a few final suggestions...

1) Is it possible to call astro cust supp and request them to completely delete your online account registration ? I don't know if they can do it but its worth a try. If can, then you start fresh again to register a new online account and then try link again.

2) Is it possible to use another computer to try link again ?

3) If you have antivirus installed, could it be your antivirus that may be blocking it ? If so, try disabling it temporarily and try again.

4) Is it possible for you to go to Astro headquarters and bring a notebook there ? I know its troublesome and time wasting. Try to solve there.

Of course these are only my unqualified suggestions. You can choose to wait for Cust Supp to call you since they have opened a case for you.

Not much I can do now to offer any useful assistance as I have run out of ideas. Hope others in this forum can offer better ideas or help.  icon_question.gif

I had the same problem last time but now I can do remote recording on my iPhone. I strongly suspect this was caused by compatibility issue between astro website and their access system. They did something on my account and after that it was ok.

You are welcome. Hehe... did not solve your problem, only gave suggestions. blush.gif

As Chikana have the same problem solved, I guess the only thing you can do is to wait for cust supp to take action on your opened case by doing something at their side. But don't wait too long to return call to remind them as they can be slow sometimes.

Hi,

Currently I am on Astro Beyond package and interested to get the PVR instead of the External Hard Disk option. I was told that they need 2 cables as the PVR has dual tuners. May I ask if the second cable is from the Disc or from a splitter that they provide because my cable are conceal. How much do they charge for that splitter.

astro will replace your existing LNB with the a dual-output LNB, 2 cables will be wire from dish to byond pvr

alternative way of wiring by using single cable is to get a stacker-destacker, I heard it will cost you RM300~RM400

A friend of mine has experienced his PVR installed with this stacker destacker. As an advice from is if you go for this, make sure the installer also provide a line amp together with stacker destacker installation as the signal will drop by a few dB so with line amp it is able to compensate this signal drop.

According to reliable source, ABN Xcess should be launching its services somewhere April / May this year.
The channels subscription fees are way cheaper than Astro and one of my colleague is a beta tester for ABN Xcess channel and all that he could say was some of the channels are totally new even Astro doesnt offer it. The quality and UI is excellant as well.

That is why Astro is going all out to upgrade current customers normal decoders to Byond as it comes with a year contract and once u accept the Byond offer, you will not be able to switch to any provider till your contract ends.

Its official site is at ... http://www.abnxcess.com/index.html

ABN Xcess is wholely owned by Asian Broadcasting Network (M) Sdn Bhd (514935-T) which focuses on bringing about convergence in the fields of Information, Communication and Television. Its ABN Puchong Gateway will be the initial broadcast centre that will set the platform for the region's most advanced digital creation and transmission hub.

Its a new company which I have read news that they will initially ONLY offer cable IPTV after signing contract with Motorola Mobility to provide the most advanced digital cable TV services. Read here... http://myhdchannels.blogspot.com/2012/02/abn-new-pay-tv.html

As quoted by Chief Executive Officer and Director Sreeedhar Subramaniam ... "All I would say is it (the packages) would be lower because we have made a commitment to the government that we will provide an affordable service and the beauty of the platform we are using, cable TV, is that the cost structure allows us to do that,” he told reporters after ... ... ... alliance between ABN and Motorola. Refer here... http://myhdchannels.blogspot.com/2011/11/abnxcessnilamas-new-competitor-in-town.html

Pay attention to the blue italic text above as its very significant for people who are not living in BIG cities such as KL and Penang.

Yes, ABN Xcess is expected to be launched in Quarter 2 of 2012 (April) but as a Cable TV Network, its excellent news for a small percentage of lucky people who stays in the Klang Valley (KL, PJ) and maybe nearby areas. The question is... compete with Astro ? Nope !! Maybe ABN Xcess can destroy Astro's stranglehold in KL but no way it can compete with Astro when we talk of NATIONWIDE coverage !

Unless in future, ABN can or do joint venture with broadcasting operators that have satellite access or purchase satellite transmission services, it is futile to wish that it can compete with Astro's nationwide satellite TV channels.

Ah... a BIG aaaaah. How I wish ... with saliva drooling from my mouth... that IPTV will be available nationwide in the very near future ! Its almost next to impossible for underground high bandwidth fiber-optic cable to be laid in most towns in the whole country. As we do know, UniFi broadband is only available in some areas in Klang Valley, not the entire location in KL, PJ, Sungei Buloh and so forth. Why not available in Kuantan, Muar, Segamat ? The same reason as for IPTV... the cost of infrastructure for underground cables, repeaters, distribution equipment, etc which is undoubtedly not going to happen for the whole country. Even in the US, not every town in their entire country have cable TV, which is why satellite channels are the most popular there where DirecTV is a leading HD provider.

Cable TV (IPTV) is pretty much a DREAM for me in my tiny hometown in Pahang and also for the millions of people not staying in Klang Valley. ABN Xcess AND Astro compete ? With Astro's monopoly on the nationwide satellite TV service, its just a mosquito bite ... using Mopiko cream will easily stop the itch from ABN loh !

Sorry that I have not been able to find any info on whether its channels will be in HD or SD. I suppose (guess) that it will be partly in HD.

Mmm... ABN launching Hybrid Fibre-Coax (HFC) network in Q2, 2012 using Motorola Mobility equipment and services.

More info... http://www.opssmedia.com/2011/11/saluran-tv-berbayar-abn-xcess-bakal.html

Thanks for the news but unfortunately, its only a fantasy for me, hehe. rclxub.gif

Peace cool.gif

NEW ADDITION
Will ABN Xcess last and succeed or will it suffer the same fate as Metrovision, Mega TV (ceased operations in 2001), and U TV ? I think U TV (from Berjaya Times Group) ceased operations on October 2006, and they have now switched to U Mobile.

Yes, its partly correct that subscribers will be discouraged to switch to other provider but I believe that upgrading to Byond with an additional one year contract could also be because Astro is a business corporation which wants to recover part of the cost of the Byond decoder that are provided "FOC" with lifetime warranty. For people like me and others nationwide, there is NO other satellite TV provider. Of course, the best competitor is through using Dreambox to receive "free" Satellite TV channels which may or may not be legal... if you use the BIG dish, the government made it illegal to use such dish without a license and its also illegal to receive Astro channels using Dreambox without a legitimate subscription. Damn... Assteruk monopoly !

Mmm... I do remember the good old days in the mid 70s when I was studying in KL. At that time I listened to Rediffussion cable radio which is only available in KL, Penang, Johore Baru and Malacca. I think Rediffusion closed in the 80s because of FM radio. I think I only paid RM 5 per month and my favorite was "Lei Dai Soh" in cantonese. At that time, no way to be available in all towns nationwide.

Mmm, smileguy... good question... will ABN go nationwide later ? Not only do I have doubts, I am very pessimistic that ABN will go nationwide in the future so I do hope it does not close before that !

Ya loh, waited and waited for MegaTV to go nationwide, then dissapointment. Then U TV, dissapointment again when they migrated to U Mobile ! I can't be blamed for being so pessimistic!

I believe MegaTV used terrestrial over-the-air transmission using special aerial for reception. I think the transmission was in digital. Don't think its in HD at that time, as HD TV commercial channels were only launched in other countries only recently sometime on or after 2007. MegaTV was not nationwide so I was one of the millions that were shut out.

I am not a telecommunications engineer. I suspect that there maybe many limitations for terrestrial over-the-air transmission of HD channels because of more and more data which needs to be fed to a transmission line such as broadband internet with faster and faster Mbit speed required, 1080i/720p resolution video, 5.1 surround sound, 3D active shutter interlaced videos, blah, blah, blah. I shall simply call it as "huge bandwidth" which terrestrial over-the-air HD transmission may not be able to carry. This is where Fibre Optic Cable can do the job by providing the "huge bandwidth" needed and also allowing for broadband internet which requires 2-way synchronous traffic. Over-the-air transmission is one way to our TV so FULL internet access is not possible.

I remember the time in the early 1990 when ATUR 450 MHz mobile phones (Dai Kor Dai, in cantonese) were used. At that time, single RBS (Radio Base Station) tower can cover a much wider circular area but when changed to ART 900 and higher frequencies, the coverage area of each RBS have significantly been reduced. This is why we see so many of such "mini towers" in different parts of town. Ok... For HD channels, I do suspect that there may be problems building even more towers at closer distances due to shorter coverage area and more powerful transmitters required to carry the "high bandwidth" of HD channels. Please correct me if I am be wrong.

In my unqualified opinion, because of such "bandwidth" limitations and technical problems of such over-the-air HD transmission, such companies would NOT choose to build such infrastructure that are not future proof, that require too much upgrade costs. Look at what happened for older shared satellite dish installed in older condos/apartments with in-wall cabling. When a building is under construction, its easier to install in-wall cabling to support both the normal Astro and the latest Byond HD. But not so easy to upgrade or have problems after the building construction have completed.

We have seen a few failures before when a few TV networks closed before they can go nationwide. Two exceptions are TV3 and NTV7 which are now nationwide but when will they go HD with 5.1 audio plus other goodies ? RTM already tested telecast in HD for the opening and closing ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008. My opinion...maybe wait for Wawasan 2030 or 2040 ? Or wait for 2013 to see what happens because the Malaysian Government have set that date for all analogue transmission to be changed to digital, SD and HD. This will release and free the frequency spectrum for use by 4G mobile networks. TV channels have already migrated to digital transmission only (SD and HD) in such countries as Britain, US and Hong Kong since 2008.

Ya loh, what I have mentioned above are only my "kopitiam" talk at "Coffee Bean" shop so some info may not be accurate or based on wrong facts. Just my opinion for discussion, hehe.
