Was googling about Ka band and I came across this:

...
may be higher power output and bigger dishes will reduce rain-fade for Ka band transmission

below is the footprint from a single Ka band satellite multiple spot beams

My house has 2 separate Astro decoders. Anyone know if there's any promotion/offer to upgrade both to Astro Beyond?
*
decoders upgrade is FOC, however you need to add additional RM20 for HD service for each HD decoder

details are on astro website

*
your installer took the hdmi cable, call the installer to return your it, the cable is bundled FOC inside every byond package

Option A : She have to pay extra RM20 for 1 year : 12 x RM20 = RM240
Option B : She have to pay RM199 for the new subscription.

tell astro to add one more option
option C : upgrade to byond FOC without HD service

I dont mind Astro offer this to the users who intend to upgrade and already have LCD or LED with them.
I already told the staff that my aunty have CRT TV only and HD channels wont give much difference but he still keep on insisting to choose either any of the 2 options given. doh.gif
*
astro wants to migrate every subscriber to byond may be because they want to convert all channels to mpeg4 format, old decoder can only decode mpeg2 video

astro max users were allowed to upgrade to byond PVR free of charge and without adding extra RM20 HD service

old CRT tv can be connected to byond's composite video output

if you got byond box + RM20 HD service + pay for "box office", then you can watch all the channels above

I believe for channel update, it does not need to reboot the box or update the software. For non byond box, it just need to put on standby (clock appear on front display) for about 5 minutes. For byond, the channel update should effect on the fly i.e. while you're watching or on standby.
*
you are right, byond box can do new channels update simultaneously even when the box is switch on, you can experience such update when channel switching exhibit a strange behaviour

I hav a question, my new hse condo, the management say beyond HD astro cannot use, how come?
*
byond decoder uses both high and low LO(local oscillating) frequencies, currently all SD channels are allocated to low LO, and HD channels to High LO frequency

my guess is that the flat's shared dish usually provide low LO only, and High LO is disabled

so technically if byond is connected to flat's dish, you can still view SD channels

if shared dish does not have device to disable High LO, your byond tuning to HD channel will interfere with other astro viewer watching SD channels, may be that is why your management said byond is not suitable for shared dish

wonder why astro took watv off-air, pretty good programming most of it taken from china's provincial FTA satellite TV stations , astro should give us a replacement channel for watv

Hi,

Currently I am on Astro Beyond package and interested to get the PVR instead of the External Hard Disk option. I was told that they need 2 cables as the PVR has dual tuners. May I ask if the second cable is from the Disc or from a splitter that they provide because my cable are conceal. How much do they charge for that splitter.

jackdon
*
astro will replace your existing LNB with the a dual-output LNB, 2 cables will be wire from dish to byond pvr

alternative way of wiring by using single cable is to get a stacker-destacker, I heard it will cost you RM300~RM400

To all those who are using Astro B.yond, how is the respond of the HD channel? I mean i've just started using Astro B.yond and some HD channels take a long time to broadcast, and some even will go disappear after broadcasting for a while. Any of you experience this? What to do with it? FYI the astro technician already adjusted the position of the satellite dish, but it still happen.
*
are your byond connected directly to HDTV via HDMI cable?

try changing to another HDMI cable

if still no go then the next step is to ask your installer to change the byond box

*
do you have any error message on screen when your HD channel blanked out?

how about other SD channels? can you list out which channels are OK and which channels are experiencing problem

No error message, just blank like that. Other SD channels are fine, no problem. The affected HD channels are 431, 573, 575, 721, 726, 729 and 832. Now the F1 race is broadcasting on SD channel 813 and HD channel 832, so frustrating that it keeps going on and off on HD channel 832, so have to watch it on SD channel  cry.gif

One more thing, the images (people, cars, etc.) in HD channels seem to be vertically longer than SD channels, how to solve that?
*
it seems like you are not set to HD resolution

go here to set:
on remote control, press home/settings/installation settings/password 000/HD settings/set to 720p/ok/yes continue

for aspect ratio conversion setting:
for HD, TV settings/High Definition/16:9/pillar box/blue button/return
for SD: TV settings/santard definition/4:3/fit to screen/blue button/return

press return button a few more time to go back to channel display

also make sure that your HDTV is displaying HDMI source instead of composite video

since you have HDTV with HDMI port, you can disconnect composite video(yellow coloured plug) from byond to HDTV
