Yes. No problems with signal if you use silver dish. The size difference between silver dish and black dish is only 5 cm lol. haha.

Yup, the HD quality got nothin to do with ur dish size or color. It depends on your decoder ability. As long as the dish can catch the signal the decoder will work just fine.

Owh, i see... HD channel also can work with silver dish... Btw can i ask u what difference astro silver dish & black dish? Thx! smile.gif

AFAIK, the size and the colour of the dish. its function is the same nod.gif
maybe the bigger sized byond dish means less service interruptions? hmm.gif

Is it true the dish type doesnt matter?

Reason i ask is becos am living in the condo. I subscribed to HD eventho i know i wont get the HD channel just to get to use the HDMI connection (read it somewhere i need to subscribed the HD to be able to turn on the HDMI port).

Am currently using the B-yond decoder but why cant receive HD channel. Just blank.

Thanks!

Your decoder is connected to the 'centralized' dish?

wait. correct me if i'm wrong, but the dish is just a signal receiver. its the byond decoder (and your astro subscription) that does the decoding of the signals and lets you watch HD channels.

a friend of mine has his byond decoder connected to the ol' grey dish and he receives hd content, no problem whatsoever. that is he has to subscribe to byond hd for an additional fee of RM20 for HD channels.

my sister lives in an apartment complex and her byond decoder is connected to the master dish. she subscribes to astro superpacks (RM125) and has no problem receiving HD channels.

i dunno about not being able to use the hdmi cable if you don't subscribe to HD. it maybe so. but i dunno how astro could disable the hdmi port on your decoder.

You can read it here:

and here:

Maybe that's an old story... but i subscribed the HD (RM20/mth) just to be able to use the HDMI bcos nicer picture and sound plus better cable management.

Ah... ok.

But still.... in other words the condo just need to do the dish realignment for the upgrade? I thot they need to change the dish and also the cable on the riser.

And then again i cant help but to wonder do they need to hack my wall to install a new concealed wiring form riser to the wall port?

Any experience astro installer here can give me the answer?

Your's was connected to centralized dish. Astro/Installer might installed/configured something on the centralized LNB to block you to switch to high frequency band (where all the HD channels sit). This is done to prevent existing astro customer who does not have Byond decoder to lost the service once you tune to HD channel since there are sharing with you the centralized dish.
Solution is to discuss with the building mgmt for the i staller to install your own dish.

I just upgraded to Superpack 1 today..

Before this i was on sport+3 minis plus Byond HD services for RM114 after tax..my parents wanted to add the Mustika package..it costs RM12.90 i think so instead, I upgraded to Superpack 1 for just another RM11..haha..talk about value for money!

Anyways, just to provide information, the PVR decoder is curently out of stock due to the recent floods in Thailand..yes..that is the reason..I recently had my order for some external hard disks also delayed for the same reason..

The decoder should be in stock in February or March..the price is RM300 and not the promotional RM150 that ended in November..

N to make avoid confusion, some of the Astro staffs are alos unaware about their own product..the staff who upgraded my package to Superpack surprised me by saying any Byond customer can upgrade to PVR decoder for free (which I knew was not true)..then I called up the PVR department and the staff there said, even if I am a Byond customer, I still need to pay the RM300 installation fee for the PVR decoder..which is true..

Great!... thanks for the xplanation .

That just might be the reason of the problem am having since i upgrade to byond decoder and HD. I have to replace my decoder about 4 times. Becos sometimes there is no video, no sound and it is not functioning at all. Been calling them (Astro) and all they did was replacing the decoder over and over again. Maybe becos of this LNB frequency thingy.

Thought of sharing. If you are using an Android phone you can download Astro TV Guide from Market. The app is straight forward and give whole aerial schedule of programme. A must have if you have Android.
