All things will spoil eventually. Oil Seal, crack that cause the water leak and conduct current. Quality of the product are important.

Even a new heater also cause people die. Recently sporean young guy die from new heater after change it few mth.

Every think is possible, can be due to installation fault also. Not properly earthed, or maybe no fault at installation but entire earthing circuit in the house not working properly.

Some latest instant water heater comes with smart feature like line fault indicator. Auto checking of the internal circuit to detect any possible current leakage.

This user reduce the chance of possible mishap with the line fault indicator feature.

To regularly check the earth circuit, add on 10mA RCCB, change new heater with better safety feature every few years is the best we can do to minimise the risks.

- Is the element original from Joven?
- How is your storage placed? If you did not place properly air may be inside and the heating element is heating the air instead of water.

Heating element won't spoil so fast, what was the cause of failure? Did you ask the technician?

If want, change to Rinnai Gas biggrin.gif much better.

Hmm..not sure original or not, I will check.
Mine is the horizontal type and its placed horizontally if thats what you mean, other than that Im not sure..twice got fried, this last round dry burn or something. I will need to check with the repair guys.

Thanks for bringing up those questions, really appreciate it, will give Rinnai Gas a check thumbup.gif

Talking abt safety, Ive been advised to test the ELCB every month so thats what Ive been doing, just press the test button and if it trips means its working..isnt that enough???

For water heater, I'll get those that can last you 5-6 years. If it last too long, you will forget about what does safety means.
When you forget what does safety means, you may end up your face's photo posted in the newspaper.
All water heater needs to be check once every 5 years.

The Joven with auto ELCB failed after 7 years due to internal motor problem.
Now using Panasonic type also with internal motor. But with manual ELCB tripping for testing.
