Once you request for special cabling the price starts rm200 onwards. However running the cabling in the ceiling, rm600 is too high. Around RM300 is reasonable.

My intention of getting this router is because it have the function to do simple downloading without my PC on. I don't really need a NAS as i already had a media player and getting a NAS is too costly for me.

as for the router, actually i don't have much complain on DIR-615 till recently it giving some weird problem where I will be kicked out from bnet server when I have my DL and UL running on the max. I don't faced this during the first installation of UNIFI, and after I changed it to Asus RT-N16. Draytek is too costly, and I rarely gonna use a single function in there, that's why I will change to TPlink or just remain default to DIR-615.

** I am not that rich, as the router also i bought from a forumer after he claimed a 1-1 warranty, consider 2nd hand? and i will sell it out and get a TPlink which i might as save up a bit of my $. Anyway let see how it goes first.

Added on January 7, 2012, 11:22 amholy crap.. it's really crap!! now some of my download files gone missing from the Ext HDD!! WTF this asus rt-n16..

and after reboot this unit just cant get connected till i manual OFF and ON the connection..

I see smile.gif

Just to update - around 2 weeks in now with the Draytek 2130N router ... very very happy with it so far.

All configured, not hanged or dropped connection / rebooted once - very stable.

Transfer rate from Laptop to NAS through the router is great (of course better than before, as its gigabit!)

Very happy - and definetely worth paying extra for in my opinion. I've also linked up my old WRT54GL to it in another room (via Powerline) to have more powerful WiFi in the bedroom (condo has very thick walls it seems!) and also working perfectly since configured.

Could have a look at a NAS like Synology Disktation if you do a lot of Torrent downloads etc. will use less electricity than a low end PC too I guess

You can also install Usenet client on it if you use that, but to be honest it's no good for extracting large RAR archives blush.gif

My electrical wiring contractor who is Chinese in Ipoh here charges only <RM50 only for workmanship(minus the material) for pulling cables above the ceiling.
His workmanship is way more professional and he does projects involving 3-phase wiring and installations in industrial factories.

With RM250 or less he can do very neat concealed wiring on a landed property and good materials such as Schneider/Clipsal switches and metal telephone ports.
Those who live in apartments/condos, no choice sometimes you can only choose assigned contractors allowed by the building management.

RM600+? Must be real rip off in Klang Valley. What kind of material he's providing you? Hope it's not those China unknown brand stuffs.

nothing they add, some contractors use wiring conduit to protect the cable some just "terbang". Depend on the contractor.

There is no equipment involved. Only standard wiring conduits, that also not all contractors use. The fiber optic cable is also standardized and supplied by TM

If they have professionalism, during the 1st visit by the Unifi installlers should do a survey and layout panning to the house informing the owner how the cable should run.
Then the premise owner can assign his own contractor to do the necessary conduits and cable covers to preapre for the day of installation.

When the actual day of installation everything should be there for the installer to just pull the cable and install everthing on their part.

In countries like Japan and Korea. That's the way they do it. The installer must negotite and inform the property owner how they intend to do the job and ask for permission before commencing work. If the owner disagrees, then renegotiate with alternative suggestions until it is agreed upon.
