Just wondering if anyone had the same experience as me so far :
1. Had Unifi installed in November last year 2. Moved address end of October this year, the installer had completely the wrong address on him and didn't want to do the install - convinvced him to do it anyway as we don't get a paper bill, all comes via e-mail. And need to have Unifi to be able to work from home - can't wait few weeks for new installation appointment 3. Up till now, TM hasn't billed me yet for moving address - and all invoices still have my old address on them. All invoices have been settled on time Should I contact them to try and resolve it? I'm worried that they'll screw something up and I won't have access for a bit. Or what will happen when the new tenants at the old address want to apply Unifi? |

QUOTE(rattan @ Dec 14 2011, 09:14 PM) The new tenant whose address you are currently sitting on will for sure have problem applying for unifi, not in the far future but in the very near future. Its best you solve this issue now before its too late, either inform TM now or best you walk in to TM. Before you PM me asking for help, I cant help you on this matter as it is already an issue with their billing end and alot of other departments are also involved. The reason we ask them to proceed with installation is because I work from home and rely heavily on having access to VOIP and RDP connections abroad which don't work properly over 3G connections, hence I even rented the new unit for nearly a month extra to make sure I move at the same time as TM can move the connection. So, in that case not having a connection for maybe 2 weeks would have been a major problem for me. Anyway, as the TM Technician seemed to have cleared the situation with his HQ I assumed it would have been resolved. As I've just received the December bill and still have old address and no charge for moving address ... this doesn't seem to be the case. I guess I'll go to TM point on a Friday early January so in case there is any downtime to get this resolved, it'll be over the weekend. Hopefully nothing gets screwed up |

QUOTE(goodseeder @ Jan 1 2012, 06:24 PM) Oh my oh my. what have we got here, a treasure cave! I'll be joining with my 1080p/720p collection soon! Ah thanks, thought it might have been different firmware - not sure if I want to change firmware now for that. I thought could generate graph on Syslog (my 2820 does this... but that's built in ADSL and WAN2 so maybe different..)I think my PC is a bit slow for Unifi lol. I have opened a thread in the hardware section asking for suggestions on a new rig! Diagnostics >> Traffic Graph thats on my model, http://draytek-malaysia.com/2130.html if yours is the 2130 and you can't find the traffic graph then you probably are running the official firmware. I'm using a beta firmware that was offered to me for testing by draytek They warned its beta blabla and I had to send an email to get it. But its been days since I flashed my router its still up and works flawless. Most of the features are cosmetic like the graphs, live counters..etc. when did you buy yours? send to support@draytek-malaysia.com and ask for 1.5.2beta BTW people, happy new year! Wish all unifi users the best ahead. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Bought from Draytek Malaysia directly, the 2310N - nice router, reliable and fast! |

Is TIME really better than UniFi?
Tempted to get TIME line to try out whilst keeping UniFi also and using load balancing router ... but not sure if worth the cost |

QUOTE(IwanAGP @ Jan 4 2012, 02:23 AM) Check out Astro broadband first before worrying about the cost. It cost more or less like UniFi with some really cool and nice things like Astro channels and NO QUOTA!!!! There's also extra boost every month(forgot is 10M or 20M boost for 6M package). Just check it out. TIME itself is really expensive but Astro which uses TIME broadband for its IPTV is very affordable! Sorry, actually I meant Astro but via TIME line ... I saw the cost is similar to UniFi but as I'm bound to my VIP20 contract I was considering to get Astro/TIME line at the same time , and use a load balancing router. Mostly my downloads are via Usenet which can have 20+ connections so can be spread between 2 internet connections |

Just to update - around 2 weeks in now with the Draytek 2130N router ... very very happy with it so far.
All configured, not hanged or dropped connection / rebooted once - very stable. Transfer rate from Laptop to NAS through the router is great (of course better than before, as its gigabit!) Very happy - and definetely worth paying extra for in my opinion. I've also linked up my old WRT54GL to it in another room (via Powerline) to have more powerful WiFi in the bedroom (condo has very thick walls it seems!) and also working perfectly since configured. QUOTE(ckboon @ Jan 7 2012, 04:04 PM) no need to apologize about it. gonna sell the router once i am back from my in-law house and setup a low end PC for downloading rather than getting this crap out of the buck that i paid. Could have a look at a NAS like Synology Disktation if you do a lot of Torrent downloads etc. will use less electricity than a low end PC too I guessYou can also install Usenet client on it if you use that, but to be honest it's no good for extracting large RAR archives |

Pings to my VOIP provider in UK aren't great (350ms) and packet loss there too - but other places in UK and Europe seem fine...

QUOTE(rattan @ Jan 7 2012, 09:57 PM) I need it for my work, incoming lines ... London VOIP number costs me RM10 each per month (£2) incoming calls are of course free - outgoing depends. I use another EU provider for Landline calls to UK (Voipcheap) who give me 300 minutes free after top up of 10 EUR ... so overall the cost is very good |

QUOTE(masashi89 @ Jan 7 2012, 10:31 PM) hmm, is wireless connectivity really slower than cable connectivity? Wireless is always slower than cable connection.im living in double storey house, and my pc desktop at upstairs, and rightnow im using the wireless adapter, but sometimes the speed kinda retarded slow, is it because of the wireless?and even the signal strength was on "Fair" level only.. What you can try is changing the wireless channel on your router to see if this imrpoves the signal. Do you have any other PCs on the network? You could copy a file over network from one to the other, to see what speed you can achieve. I also had this issue and was getting damn frustrated with wireless - now changed the desktop PC over to using the Homeplug adaptors - works much better Added on January 7, 2012, 11:17 pmEven though there's some packet loss , international downloads seem fine : Status: Downloading Speed: 2.3 MB/s Queue: 3157.90/3515.93 That's from a server based in Europe This post has been edited by rjb123: Jan 7 2012, 11:17 PM |

QUOTE(GreenSamurai @ Jan 8 2012, 01:11 AM) You may google it, it's downloads from NewsgroupsNothing to PM as it's not a free service - you need to pay for a subscription. But can choose from Europe or US server. The ports used are either 443 or 563 - not sure if other ports are slow/throttled? |

QUOTE(goodseeder @ Jan 8 2012, 01:24 AM) I'm also in favor of a NAS, a 1-drive Synology like I suggested in my previous post, they are great value for money. The software is mature and very stable. I have no problem flashing a router, but I want something stable. I had the TP Link before, and whilst it was better than the DIR-615 provided still not great. It will pay for itself eventually, not noisy and no electricity like an old/dedicated full PC. The initial cost might seem higher, but its actually much lower in the longer run. Its personal preference of course, some people think its ok to buy an RM300++ router then void warranty by flashing it to DD-WRT or something, but to me thats absolutely ridiculous! But again, its personal preference, some people enjoy the hacking and stuff, others just want products that work. Now using the Draytek 2130N, for NAS I use DS211J, and no problems at all - all stable and reliable Shame that HDDs are so expensive, at first I had it setup on mirror RAID (RAID 1) to make 2x2tb mirrored, but now set to 4tb total as I was running out of space. Hopefully the prices come down soon so I can upgrade this |

QUOTE(goodseeder @ Jan 8 2012, 02:57 AM) What if it's a conspiracy to force people into buying SSDs? Not all HDDs are made in Thailand, but there's a company (I don't remember the name now) which make a large % of the motors used in mechanical HDDs !I mean ALL the HDDs are made in thailand? And why is it that all shops have HDDs? yeah supply is less but no one ran out of stock? Food for thought |
