just only being force to applied unifi. Just to clarify myself, my area is taman delima cheras, because I am currently streamyx user, but because I need to move to taman delima cheras, and I was told that this area is not available for streamyx anymore, is this true?
Well actually, I don't really want to apply it because of the usage limit issue, as we know, it is still not applicable yet. So, I do rather stay back in streamyx to see what TM is going to do about it until a formal announcement made.
So,
My concern now is which router should I buy to use as I followed part of the thread, some of the people advised not to use the default router from TM. I know there was a few that you guys recommend, but can give me more guide on this?
Anything that need to know before installation?
As I know, we was going to get free bags, voucher, this and that when we apply, is this true? If my previous streamyx was still in contract, would I get charged since I need to terminate the service?
Hey guys, got a question on my Unifi problems. Ever since I installed Unifi last Friday, it seems like every day there seems to be a new issue. Firstly on Saturday morning, I discovered that I couldn't connect to the Internet and my VOIP was down. Called the Unifi SC and they told me that if I off my modem at night, it may miss some config changes that are "pushed" out during maintenance. After a short troubleshoot, OK redi. Then on Sunday morning, I saw the WAN status light on my router was blinking rapidly in orange, couldn't connect to the Net and HyppTV was down (VOIP OK tho). Called up the SC again, and they said that my connection needed to be "refreshed". After some more troubleshooting, OK again. Or so I thought... Barely a few minutes later, same problem and total loss of Net & HyppTV. Now SC says they'll send over a techie to have a look. I'm still waiting for that to happen.
Does this sound symptomatic of a router problem (stoopid DR-615) or some more fundamental line connection issues. I'm staying at a townhouse which has VDSL2 to our fibre. I've been reading on LYN how ppl hv successfully switched over to TP routers and enjoyed problem-free Unifi. Looking to go down that path too. Any comments?
Had quite the same problem last night as I have a hard time getting connected whenever I reset my router. Changed the router to Asus N13U but the same problem occurs. Called TM and they say problem might be on their side. At work today they sms me saying the problem is fixed, and when I got home, I found my HyppTV is running (I usually let it on standby mode since I rarely watch it). they must have pushed some updates, but yeah, the line is fine for now

i dont think it will be implemented when streamyx is still around
is it possible to set my wifi router(DLINK DIR 615) to reboot automatically at certain times(etc. every 4 hour once?)
and is it possible for me to restrict torrenting and PPStream?its unfair for other users,u now. hope u guys can help me with it?
for the time i'm using d-link (dir 615) customised with dd-wrt firmware.
if its possible increase the total users number at one time(curently is 45,i presume) and limit the bandwidth to each users?
thanks and festive greetings
No. But heavy usage will make it auto restart (you get what I mean ) Where are you using your UniFi at? A cafe or restaurant? 45 users is really quite a big number and is quite tough for a router, especially the particular given D-link to handle. Need not to say P2P softwares like mentioned BT and PPStream. Your router sure crash very often if that many users connected at same time and doing quite intense surfing.
Anyway, I don't know the maximum users the router can handle. The max I got is 12~ 14, normally 7~9. You can restrict torrenting and PPStream if you know exactly which port to block, but that's 100% block, not just restrict. You may look into Asus routers that "knows" to bring down the priority of P2P packets, allowing gaming and other traffic to be prioritised. Regarding limiting bandwidth to each users, I don't think there's router that does dynamic allocation but you may do it manually, in TP-link routers. You are allowed to allocate to each Internal IP/Mac Address a maximum Ingress and Egress bandwidth. I think I saw similar function in Asus router too. Anyway... If you want to keep the DIR615, it's too limited what you can do. You may flash it with DDWRT or OPENWRT and open up quite many features but the hardware itself isn't doing so well. I assume you're running a cafe or restaurant, seeing that you said 45 users is not enough. Why don't you pay more for a better wireless AP to handle the traffic. Anyway, for router guide, refer www.klseet.com

If the area is new, TM probably won't be spending money to expand their copper network to that area since they rolled out fibre optic in that area. If you don't fancy the IPTV and free fixed line calls bundled in VIP packages, go for BIZ/Dynamic IP BIZ packages. These packages have no cap/quota forever but you won't get the IPTV and your VoIP has only limited minutes free call. Choice is in your hand.

Lagggggg~~ Right? Or only me who thought it's lagging. My laptop can't handle 4k video well on flash(on youtube). My gpu can't even render it (same video downloaded from youtube, played using MPC with DXVA), bluescreen.

well yes it lags... dont have a super computer running... lolz.. anyway the video was just to show how fast the video buffer.
u mean direct from living room and branch out to those bedrooms?
cos the FDS is at the back of the house. so the shortest way to enter the house is through my bedroom upstairs and branch out from there.
yup will get the better cat5e cable.. and im the one who will do the crimping and testing of the cable before finalize the conceal.
Since you'll be doin the crimping and testing yourself, why don't go with Cat6 cable? More expensive but at least it would be more future-proof with 10Gb/s support.

Oppss...sry to give out more details......I'm using the unifi phone(at my 2nd floor) and also my house old phone(at my living hall)......Both phone produce significant noise that make me difficult to hear clearly......
I had try direct to only 1 phone but still the noise still there....
Are you connecting both phones to the same unifi phone line? Probably the joint did not have solid contact?

After fast browsing this thread, still need some reassurance. Which would be the best Router+other-hardware(<rm200) to replace DIR615 so that I can share laserprinter? (TP841ND+DR615) OR ASUS RT-N13U. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input Blue! It seems so funny to me that only my Internet services are affected. Yesterday I was able to watch HyppTV with no probs but cant connect to the net at all. TM has just SMS'd me that they are escalating the case tot eh technical team so I'll wait for them to poke around and see whats wrong.
How do I go about claiming rebates for the days when my Net was down? Just send them an email and cc aduansksm?

841ND + DIR615 RT-N13U 1043ND
Overall, if you're using stock firmware, RT-N13U has more features. Print server, its QOS and the built-in download master. Just depends on your budget and whether you need those features. TP-link routers has less features to play with. Btw, you should do research whether 1043ND supports printer sharing on default firmware. I'm not quite sure after a few googling. It's a capable router I would say, even better if flashed with DDWRT or something similar. Btw, 1043ND has gigabit. Whether you need it or not, it's up to your decision. If I'm not wrong, 1043ND is still cheaper than the N13U.
Summary i) Need built in download master for FTP/HTTP/BT and Asus QoS feature? Get N13U ii) Best bang for buck?? 841ND+DIR615. I'm using this setup. So far so good. Simple setup too. iii) If you need Gigabit, 1043ND should be very fun to play with and it's priced between i) and ii) But you must check whether its stock firmware allows you to do printer sharing (I think it should, else the USB port is quite useless )
