Can we treat worms problem ourselves? What we need to buy?

Added on February 14, 2012, 6:21 pmBetter go to veterinarian. Prescribed meds are the best than over-the-counter meds I think. But first I need to find where vet is located in my town. This is the problem when living in a cowboy town. wink.gif

Yes of course we can deworm our cats ourselves.
You just need to purchase the deworming pills.
There are two types of deworming pills that is usually being used which is Drontal and Univerm.
Drontal is much more easier to give as one tablet is for a 4kg cat.
Whereas Univerm one tablet can be used for 10kgs so you will need to divide the pill yourself.
So if your cat is 4 kgs you will need to half the tablet and then again half the tablet.
But you can also bring your cat to the vet for deworming and will be usually charged RM7.00 for Drontal.
But Klinik Yuan does it for RM5.00.

You can try Mesra Pet Shop in Serdang.
I saw them having this the last time I went there.

Wow.... until no bones left behind?
Is it not dangerous for cats to eat bones? hmm.gif
They might get chocked or the bone pieces might get stuck in the intestine?
I usually scrap off the meat and 'carik carik' the chicken meat and then only served the chicken to my cats.

I'm surprise no one suggested egg yolk. Those Omega 3 egg yolk , has protein, fats, and lots of vitamin. And it's a cheap source of nutrition.

I'm new to this cat thing. I adopted a stray cat few months ago. This is my first time I own a cat in my entire life. So, sorry for my noob questions. Can I use Dettol shower gel for cat hygiene & for bathing? Right now I use regular shampoo & I only bathed her if she have diarrhea. I'm just thinking, Dettol shower gel might suitable to clean/kill eggs/worms, if any, on her fur or skins.

Yes egg yolk is good but a bit dangerous if there are still remenents of egg white in it.
Cats can get salomena from it.

For shiny coats there are a lot of ways :
Feed the cats with vitamin b complex. Not only it will make the coat shiny and soft but it will enhance yr cats appetite. Buy the vitamin b complex from governmant hospitals as its smaller and easier for the cat to swallow. Next would be brewster yeast. The best would be fish oil containing omega 3 and 6. I am feeding my cats with fish oil. So far so good smile.gif

Ooo kizwan human shampoo cannot be used on cats as the PH contents is too high for the cats fur. Please use special formulated shampoo for cats. To kill fleas you can use Machinko shampoo. Very good. For worms there is no shampoo to kill it. You will need to deworm yr cat to kill the worms and eggs inside the tummy. Also dun bathe the cat too often as the cat needs its natural oil to keep its fur shiny and soft. Bathing it too often will cause the fur to be dry and brittle. When its backside is dirty due to diarrhea just wash the behind and quickly dry it. If your cat is suffering from diarrhea please bring to the vet as persistent diarrhea can kill a cat.

She didn't get persistent diarrhea but from time to time. I still need to find out where vet is located in my town. This is way I asked if possible to deworms myself. smile.gif

My cat usually "tell" me if she want to poops, which I will bring her to toilet. But if she get diarrhea, she usually just poops wherever place she can find. I know she will try to "bury" her feces. So, she probably touched her feces by accident. Eggs & worms probably transferred to her furs or skin. So, I just bathed her little bit. Of course I did quickly dry her.

Tomorrow I'm going to a pet shop. Let see what they have in store.

If you're giving the bones to the cat, COOK the bones first. NEVER EVER give cats raw bone even if it is the soft small bone.

Errr you dont have a litter box for your cat to do its business?
Its convenient and hygenic to have a litter box for your cat rather having to bring it to the toilet each time it want to poop or pee. What happens if you are not around the house? Then your cat will poop and pee anywhere it likes and then it will be a hard habit to shake. Better to use a litter box. Convenient for you and your cat smile.gif

Kizwan, pls don't use Dettol on cats or to clean your house floor. Dettol is fatal to cat.

If you want to kill the germs in the house, use clorox. Mix it with water and rinse thoroughly.

Added on February 16, 2012, 11:00 amI am in Kota Kinabalu now. My mum's cat was sick and I brought him to the clinic last Tuesday. After blood test, if seems he was infected with fleas virus. But he is still in early stage so he is not in danger. He didn't want to eat and I wanted to buy A/D to stimulate his appetite. But the clinic doesn't sell A/D.

When I chk around, the nearest to my mum's house there's 1 clinic selling A/D. I called the clinic and the girl who pick up the phone said I can come and buy at their clinic. I went there around 11am. The girl who is manning the counter told me I cannot buy A/D from their clinic because my cat was not treated in their clinic and need vet presciption. All these year I have cats as my pet (I live in KL BTW), I have never encounter any problem buying A/D. In fact, vets encourage me to feed my sick cats with A/D if they refuse to eat their normal meals.

I have to argue with her until she agree to sell 2 cans of A/D for me. After that she gave me a supplier number somehwere near in town. She told me I can buy directly from this supplier. I bluntly told her, I only want to buy 2 can not 200 cans of A/D.

i'd have to disagree with that. I often feed my cats raw chicken neck, gizzards, whatever part I can get. Actually raw bones are better than cooked, as cooked bones are more prone to breaking in splinters since they're so soft.
Dogs on the other hand, are a different story since they're bigger. long thin bones like chicken ribs are best avoided. But my sister's dog is a really slow eater and will slowly chew her food so she sometimes gets chicken necks
