Buy and hold one PRS fund only. Others use unit trust or stashaway.

PRS is basically wait for price to increase. If you sell you get charged with penalty of 8%.

Distribution of Dividend in unit trust is not important.

Let say one of the PRS fund the current NAV is 0.3, 10 years later still the same or just raise to 0.4.

May I know how people earn from this kind of fund? Is it invest in PRS now and just get the money back when retirement, no need keep sell/switch fund?

Invest 3000 now, 30 years later will get how much?

Sorry im newbie to PRS.

Earn from distribution which will be reinvested and the NAV price “up”
That is why important that one need to choose the “right and suitable” fund according to your age, risk tolerance and investment purpose.
PRS is for long term investment thus fund selection is the priority, of course timing is important also if want to maximise earning

both. see FAQs link in post 4028

can only sell 30% of what you had invested and that 30% will also be subjected to tax as mentioned by Ramjade
switch to other fund is the usual solution. but some funds has switching fees and sales charges.

May I know how people earn from this kind of fund?
For funds that gives out distribution as required under their mandate, their NAVs will usually moves in a range
if in normal good circumstances, the NAV will goes up then come down after distribution,
(as distribution is "taking the money out from the fund itself to gives it to you" thus it is in layman terms "left pocket out, right pocket in" thus dilutes the NAV)
thus if in a normal good circumstances, the NAV will repeat the cycle of Up and Down within a range
Thus when you see that the NAV is the same as 10 years ago, don't be shocked,....take a consideration of the cumulations of "free" units the funds had given you through those distribution incidences over the years.
NAV X the units available = the money you had in that fund

Is it invest in PRS now and just get the money back when retirement, no need keep sell/switch fund?
you may get back LESS than what you had invested,
you may get back the same as what you had invested and
you may get back MORE than what you had invested too

you need to keep sell/switch only when you had realised that the fund that you had selected is no more suitable to your actual risk appetite or returns expectation and are giving you undue emotional stresses which if not solved may impact your health

Invest 3000 now, 30 years later will get how much?
depends on what PRS funds you had.....
for a guide of how the PRS funds performed historically over some years , see (attached image) for the historical PAST returns of the PRS funds that are available in FSM platform

As the poster below said earn from tax relief.
Then anything extra is bonus.
Tax relief is valid until next year unless govt decided to extend it and valid for only RM3k.
So last chance to buy PRS is next year.
For me I like to get that bonus and I like to juice it up to say 10%p.a

To profit from unit trust = NAV (price) X number of units.
So depending on the fund. If they keep their NAV flat, but number of unit increasing you still make money.
If NAV stays the same and unit doesn change then it's a lousy fund. Cause your value of money didn't go up.

If you want I make money you have to sell your fund. When you sell it, you have to make sure NAV+number of units > original NAV + number of units.

Thank you all for your prompt reply to my inquiry.

I will invest PRS because of tax relief and invest in the right fund to get better and make sure it's secure return.

Affin PRS Growth Fund is feeding mainly into Affin Hwang Select Asia (ex Japan) Opportunity Fund MYR
Affin PRS Moderate Fund is feeding mainly into Affin Hwang Select Asia Pacific (ex Japan) Balanced Fund MYR

Given recent stealth performance of both funds capturing upside opportunity in Greater China region, no doubt that both PRS funds are gaining too.

I'm also holding Affin PRS Moderate Fund.

I'm only investing into existing funds; not employing your strategy of 1 new PRS fund per calendar year. sweat.gif

Thanks for this info. I have both so was wondering if I should top up instead of finding a new fund.

Would you kindly recommend another better performing fund pls?
