Next time,.. may I suggest explain more lah...else others may simple shoots other views or uses wrong analogy which is NOT good.
Distribution is distributing of asset which includes profits if any after minus other liabilities...
What is the net asset value (NAV)?
The price of each unit is based on the fund’s net asset value (NAV) divided by the number of units outstanding. The NAV of a fund is the market value of the fund's net assets (investments, cash and other assets minus expenses, payables and other liabilities). The NAV is usually computed daily to reflect changes in the prices of the investments held by the fund.
What is the return?
You invest in a fund by buying units in the fund. There is capital gain when the price of the units rises above the price you paid for the fund.
Some funds pay dividends, in terms of units which are reinvested (before distribution you have RM 1000 current value, after distribution you still have RM1000 in it....bcos you got extra units but at lesser NAV).
If nothing is changed on that day of distribution.....the NAV of that fund would drops to reflects the distributed amount....I think we get back abit less cos need to pay govt taxes.....if no distribution no pay taxes thus more in own asset?
in short...distribution is "Left pocket money goes into right pocket" (abit of cents are dropped in that process)(govt taxes, extra cost incurred due to distribution & other extra operational expenses)
so TS, what do you think about this?..."will the distribution taken into consideration while choosing a fund?"
do you think the analogy of buying and renting a house is correct?
if still want to use that analogy,...just add this to it, ...all the rental collected will be used to pay for the repairs, lawyer/agent fees, etc, etc.....Left pocket money goes into right pocket...
