Anyway, as u can c in my signature, I haf a really puny HDD at only 80gb. Y so small? Well, I only store games in my rig. All other data is put into my external HDD. I've just run out of space for my games so I'm looking to get a new HDD or mebe even a couple. I don't need much storage as even big games r only about 4gb average n even the 36gb Raptor can hold bout 10 games. Here's what I've been thinking. A SATA2 80gb is only rm170. A 36gb Raptor is rm385. A SATA2 16mb cache 320gb is rm365. Let's say I set my budget at rm400. What would be best bang for buck? 1. A single 36gb Raptor. 2. 2x80gb in RAID 0. 3. A single 320gb. The Raptor is fastest at 10k RPM but only has a puny 36gb. 80gb is not that fast but will it be almost as fast as the Raptor if we RAID 0 2x80gb? Or will a single 320gb HDD whoop options 1 n 2 simply coz it has higher areal density? What do u guys think? Which wud be fastest? This post has been edited by ianho: Oct 3 2006, 04:39 PM |

Guys, sorry to chipped in out of nowhere.
Just wondering, do any of u guys dload files extensively/heavy like having BT on almost 24hours? If yes, How long your harddisks lifespan so far? And what type of harddisk is it. Plus, have u ever do some maintenance or preventive actions to avoid catastrophic damages? Thanks, in advance of course. |

i cant really BT since it was not allowed on my isp tmnet.
with the speed of streamyx, it dont really has a effect on HD lifespan, temperature has more effect and will kill HD faster. |

QUOTE(Alpha_Tay @ Oct 3 2006, 09:53 AM) i cant really BT since it was not allowed on my isp tmnet. haha.. like me lah. you can put dual fan in front of your HDD and blow as fast as you can. now my HDD is cooler than before. but still 40 over celcius. with the speed of streamyx, it dont really has a effect on HD lifespan, temperature has more effect and will kill HD faster. |

What I want is reduced load times. But I'm still wondering if the 320gb 16mb HDD will b as fast or mebe even faster than a single 36gb Raptor coz the 320gb has so much more areal density. I'm just using that rm400 budget thingy as a guideline coz mebe sum of the members here haf actually tried between a single 36gb Raptor VS 2x80gb VS single 320gb. I may also decide to get 2x320gb if they really r faster than a single 74gb Raptor. The thing I really haf doubts about is the noise level. I've heard many complain about how loud the Raptor is. Is it really that loud? I treasure silence as I've now built my rig to b really quiet. I dont wanna ruin it all by having a monster drive makin lotsa noise. |
