scary meh? just pray hard. any hdd can die. just that maxtors have a higher % of doing so.
*
Not that actually, it depends on your usage pattern too, those lazy bums who always didn't switch off their com properly would have higher chance of faulty HDD.

maybe. the bootup uses extra voltage to get everything running. thats y its called a 'boot

something like that, when the platters is at stationary state, an extra force is needed to overcome the inertia of the platters in order to spin it up.

how come barely no one reply to this?

like u said, u don need much storage. so just go for 36GB raptor. but for me, i'll go for 300GB Seagate. two reasons, 1)5 years warranty, 2)impressive benchmark results i saw before and its on top of the rest (WD, SS) and Maxtor is close to it but heard too many ppl complaining bout maxtor. i don think there would be much improvement as for the 36GB Raptor in real life gaming. lets just say the price/performance is not right for me.

get the raptor, you'll notice significant improvements in loading times and also booting into windows

It was once my primary boot drive and I am running my pc 24/7 since years ago. 80GB is getting smaller for me, that's why it became my backup drive smile.gif

LOL my maxtor 80GB oso still running.Suprisingly,it has proved to be pretty durable.Once my PC fell down(not from high position lar) and the Maxtor suprisingly still running well.Well,i'm not sure about the long-lasting-ness,coz i only bought my rig last year, but so far so good.Like blaxez,i think i'm one of the luck owners.Heard LOTS N LOTS of bad things and cursing on Maxtor haha.Hopefully my Maxtor will last for a few years more
*
Yea, it is my 1st and last maxtor as now maxtor is gone

Anybody using WD 2500KS here? Any verdict? I'm planning to get that drive since it fits my budget. Just want to ask around first.

How about heat and noise ?
*
I'm using one, it's barely audible and so far doesn't give me any problem. I can say that it's not as hot as my 80GB maxtor.

QUOTE(Vervain @ Oct 30 2006, 09:19 AM)
just discovered something, seagate has the worst fitness. mine is on the edge of breakdown. 1 of it is constantly showing symptom of breaking down. based on the figures, both my seagates have lowest spin retry count and the most terrible seek retry rate. so stay away from seagate. they cannot handle to much stress as compared to maxtor and WD.

Maybe you are one of the unlucky ones that got those faulty batches whistling.gif
