Which bran to recommend? Seagate or Western Digital?

but so far the longest lasting HDD for me id maxtor...our office have been using MAxtor for 5 years & still running....seems to be no problem at all...

the bad one that i found was Seagate when one og the HDD blow during operation...the circuits are fried, hehe...

but it all also depend on ur ambient temperature & oso ur room temperature...

i think no one mention this earlier...

tricks(???) for longer lifespan of a hdisk... --for noobie--

1) at least got 10% free space in the hdisk/ partition (my lecture aso told this)
2) don't remove your hdisk and travel it house by house to copy movie etc.. ) laugh.gif
*this one me aso do.. and my old hdisk begin to crap..

3) shut down the pc if no use.. whistling.gif

#that is due to my experience since 2002
..bring on if i'm wrong..

speaking of my hdd...the hitachi one...

it is so lagging while doing in both task, moving another file to another hdd and playing mp3.

with my very old loyal quantum hdd, it doens't have this type of problem even the seagate as well...

hitachi hdd kinda slow, buffering alots! sweat.gif

i think this topic should be more specific.. good harddisk.. emm..
better focus for sata one,or new pata(still exist in market).. not the one that have long2 time ago.. (what for - r we want to buy the old ver one).. sweat.gif

newer ver got newer features(speed, space etc).. and different from previous old one..
since time by time, years by years their performance of produce good harddisk going up n down..

just my 2 cents...

Erm, some question i want to ask
1. SATA 2 HDD, can use on a SATA(1) moterboard?
2. And between Seagate and WD, which is a better brand, especially its reliablity...

Thanks biggrin.gif

In my work experience I got most maxtor hard disk failed (with maxtor powermax diagnostic software) so I think maxtor is not very good. Do you guys agree with this?

You have to limit SATA 2 hard disk to SATA 1 on the jumper. See the instuction on the disk or manual
