It was mentioned that we can use cashback to pay the outstanding balance.

Here is a scenario, statement date 18-Dec, due date 7-Jan, outstanding amount RM100, cashback on 1-Jan is RM20. So if I pay RM80, will the minimum balance and outstanding balance be shown as zero?

0.5% from Maybank and 2.5% from AMEX. Anyway, idoblu has confirmed this too.

Ok. Does this 0.5+2.5% then apply to the Amex charge card or the Amex MBB credit card or both?

Do you still have the AMEX Gold credit card statement ? The one that was the hottest AMEX before the introduction of this MBB2 product. If i'm not mistaken, the information was given by someone using the pure AMEX Gold credit card. I did refer back to my mom's canceled AMEX charge card statement from year 2009 and the was no mention of this 0.5% admin charge either, just the 2.5% from AMEX.

Anyway, one thing for sure is that for all AMEX credit card bearing the Maybankard logo, the total admin fee is 3% (0.5% + 2.5%).
All the banks seem to charge more than what's stated in the back of the statement (foreign currency admin fee).

As usual, you are right notworthy.gif

idoblu was replying to your statement on AMEX Charge Card, and behind the AMEX Gold Charge Card statement only mentioned 2.5%.

I just checked my last AMEX Gold Credit Card statement (dated August 2011), it states

"Foreign Charges coverted by AMEX apply a coversion factor of 2.5% to the converted amount plus 0.5% administration cost imposed by Maybank"

And you know what - Above statement IS ALSO stated in my Maybankard Statements. You guys all go read behind your MBB2 Cards statement and you'll see the same.

BUT, here is the shocking thing, behind my separate MBB VI, it states the following:

"Foreign charges applies a conversion factor of 2.5% to the converted amount and charges that is made in a foreign currency other than US Dollars will be first converted into US Dollars before being converted into Ringgit Malaysia" WTF vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

Anyway, can you please do all of us a favor by splitting your next overseas payment into two Maybank credit cards ? I mean to pay for the same purchase with your MBB2 VISA/MC (preferably with another MBB VISA credit card) and MBB VI ? So that we can compare the rates and to find out if Maybank is inflating the rate for MBB VI. Just to check if they are sincere in giving out the 5xTP for MBB VI for all payments made in foreign currency.

Will execute your command, but is will be sometime again before I go overseas again. I will try to swipe with the followings cards on the same day:

MBB 2 AMEX
MBB 2 Visa
MBB Plat MC and
MBB VI

OMG! No wonder they are so good to offer 5xTP for all overseas transactions for MBB VI. Got us all happy for nothing. I am so keen to get this card (long shot but definitely in my to-get list) vmad.gif

Thanks a lot bro! And if possible, please try to use your wife's SCB VI too as this card also gives 5x Choice Points. Just to see how it fares compared to MBB VI for transaction made in foreign currency smile.gif

But in his blog post, the analysis shows the fee only 1.25%. So perhaps not as bad as we think?

Perhaps the next test for overseas transaction is MBB Amex vs MBB VI. Do it on same day and see which has better conversion rate (since both also 5x TP).

You are still talking about using your MBB2 AMEX overseas right ? What determines whether or not you are entitled for the 5% weekend cash rebate is the transaction date. The transaction date must falls on either Saturday or Sunday. Posting date will however, determine you will get the rebate this month or next month.

For example, you bought something in USA on 31st December 2011 which is a Saturday, thus making you eligible for the MBB2 AMEX weekend 5% cash rebate. However, the payment was only posted to your account a few days later and the posting date is recorded as x Jan 2012 in your account. The 5% weekend cash rebate will be credited to your account only next month and is counted towards your 5% weekend rebate for January 2012 instead of December 2011.

i already made the oversea online payment using my MBB2 AMEX today=saturday. so i will get the 5% cash rebate no matter when is my posting date right?

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Jan 5 2012, 09:32 AM)
Bro, tell you what, since you want the points, go swipe RM1K and see if you get the 5% cash back on weekends with the online payment and then post the outcome at the thread hye started to benefit all. And from then on, you and me can know the right answer once and for all. The remaining RM1K swipe with the Visa  or MC to compare.

sorry bro, i already swiped all with MBB2 AMEX. waiting for the outcome.. biggrin.gif

Almost done with my analysis but need contributions from the community

need sample rates for other MBB2 cards (visa, MC, Amex) and normal MBB cards as well as other bank cards

need your posting date, transaction date and exchange rate + card type

Rule: Must be USD to MYR conversion. Other currency will impact data comparison.

Bro, you got to wait months for me to give you any feedback.

To ALL: What zenquix needs is just your past 1 month overseas transactions of your MBB 2 AMEX or MBB 2 Visa/MC, may it be face to face or online. With the data provided from all of us, he can then tabulate out for us the difference between MBB2 AMEX and MBB 2 Visa/MC and or other credit cards.

Card Type:
Transaction Date:
Posting Date:
Exchange Rate (USD/RM):

ixole and jchong, you guys just did some transactions right, please share the details.

I had my first encounter with loss of Credit Card...NEARLY. I did a swipe at the toystore on Sat. Somehow with all the other loyalty cards used to collect points, my Maybankard 2 AMEX didn't follow me into my wallet.

After 15mins, I received a call from Maybankard Platinum services (Private Number) that asked me to check if I left my CC at the toystore. Opened my wallet and my Maybankard 2 AMEX is missing indeed.

Quickly ran back to the toystore to look for the manager and ....... Thank goodness I retrieve my 'precious' CC.

P.s. i believe the cashier 'forgot' to pull out the CC from the terminal, when giving me the receipts.

Shouldn't you cancel your card. Your card details already compromise.

That is a program which give u chips that must roll one round before you can cash out.. I swipe for this pp program before and it is treated as retail transaction..

So I think there is something wrong with their terminal or amex system on that day.. my friend had already filing a dispute... Just want to know is this an individual case or many people also facing this problem on that day..
