IPS has its advantage and not just viewing angle, colour reproduction wise is way better than the limited TN, especially the grey area and to benefit from the viewing angle you'll see good colour balance through the screen even with a little tilt, especially when you move your head a little to the right or left, you'll see a little contrast/brightness shift from TN but not IPS, this is another advantage of the wide viewing angle, not just for "plenty of people" purpose.
Aside from that, Dell's unit provide full IPS premium functionality such as the "super" leg, of which you can turn your widescreen into portrait mode which enable you to read a whole page without scrolling and able to adjust the monitor height according to your comfort, and also the extra USB hub making life even much convenient, don't you think so? whistling.gif

Anyway, my explanation just for your information, which many of the Ultrasharp users would also seeing this advantage when they deciding on value monitors to choose from, and if you still finds it not up to your taste or you don't need all those advantage/functions then by all means there's plenty of monitor out there. Example would be LG, Samsung (which I won't really recommend unless no choices left), AOC (cheap, value), etc. All of them are pretty much the same, you just need to look at the size, price and the functionality, and decide.

you really think it's a full IPS ? sad to say most IPS below 1k are 6bit + A-FRC which means it's not pure ips or consider e-ips.
Except you are getting a dell u2410

Btw , just asking , which ips panel brand with glossy screen ?

Full IPS? Is there a half IPS? Either way it's IPS and it has its advantage over TN, it's matter of panel technology, such as those S-IPS and H-IPS. e-IPS are still IPS, just the material used is not as much or as good as those higher-end model.
Or should I re-phrase my "full IPS premium functionality"? It's referred to Dell's Ultrasharp series, not the IPS panel.

Apple is probably the only one with glossy screen. Apple Cinema is using IPS panel.

What about Samsung's touted Super-PLS? Should we believe the hype of it displacing IPS?

e-IPS are IPS, its just that they cut corners to keep the cost down. but its does not apply to all e-IPS panels, some are true 8bit panels while some like the panels used in the u2312hm are using 6bit+a-frc to generate its 16.7million color depth.
In fact, mostly all TN panel rely on the same trick as well since TN panels are limited to only 6bit color depth(256k color)

but it abit disappointing that the e-IPS in dell's ultrasharp series are not a true 8bit panel but in reality we barely see any difference

Pricing is quiet high. With the level of the H-IPS panels
It a good monitor but it does not bring anything new to the table
But I need to read up more on it thou

LG Display supply Dell the IPS panels for their ultrasharp series

I meant Full IPS is something like P-IPS EIZO FlexScan or NEC 8bit + FRC with 10bit LUT + overdrive engine. And confirm no one will buy a 6k LCD sweat.gif

btw , only Apple cinema ips got glossy ? any other brand ? why seldom manufacturer come out with glossy screen ?

Which e-ips panel is actually using 8-bit ?
But in reality , I haven't able to compare with true 8 bit panel . The max is ipad vs asus transformer which can purely see the difference.

Any of you guys saw both 6bit + A+FRC with e-ips 8bit ? unsure.gif
Thank you

IPS are IPS, no such thing as half IPS. it's not like e-IPS is a hybrid using another tech. but just a easier and cheaper to make version of the tech.
as u say, no one gonna buy a expensive monitor right off the bat, so e-IPS is a stepping stone for ppl to experience the benefits of IPS first and get them hook.

for the 27 inch model, I think Apple Cinema Display and Thunderbolt Display are the only glossy IPS panels.
I also believe that the panels used by Apple are the only glossy IPS panel supplied by LG Display
since LGD usually produce matte IPS panel for their OEMs
You have to blame LGD for the lack of glossy panels since they are the main producers of e-IPS, S-IPS and H-IPS panels

e-IPS that are true 8bit are (from what i find) Dell 2209WA, LG W2220P, Fujitsu P22W-5 ECO, HP ZR24w and Fujitsu P24W-6

ipad2 is a true 8bit ips panel while the asus trasnformer is 6bit with dithering

After using U2412M from previously a TN, next monitor I'm definitely gonna grab the higher end IPS biggrin.gif

Love the color reproduction, much lesser banding + viewing angle rocks... last time TN monitor change angle a bit my color editing is thrown off dry.gif. Today sit at this angle, tomorrow sit at another angle both images appear different color tone doh.gif

Anything bigger will definitely much expensive, therefore you target of the 32" might suits you since your budget is below RM1,000.
Anything bigger than your current specs is the U2711 which is RM2,299, but higher end H-IPS (or S-IPS??) and resolution of 2560x1440.
If you just need the size, go ahead with TVs which is dirt cheap nowadays, and make sure it's 1080p capable otherwise you will find yourself looking at really big dots. doh.gif
