whatever thats black. i did a black fill-in paint and i can see it alright. will check if its there in stand by but regardless im going to see if i can get it replaced. its definitely noticeable. I also see a bright pixel but im not worried about that since its not noticeable much.
*
its time for replacement then =)

How do u differentiate between new and refurbished unit?  hmm.gif
*
from my experiance the refurbished units is damn obvious, all the protecting stickers on dell logo and rear of the LCDs are gone, and there r dust in some air vent =)

The box that a refurbished monitor comes in should have the word "refurbished' placed over it. The box size should also be much bigger than a new Dell U2311H's box. Anyway, the refurbished monitor I received is also of an older revision. smile.gif

Additional info : A sticker will also be stuck onto the box with the monitor's model number and with the word "refurbished" on it other than the large sticker on the box to inform you.

Yes, I kept the box until I had to return it with the refurbished monitor. smile.gif I'm not exactly sure on how the new replacement will come, but mine came directly from their factory again all packed nicely, and with new accessories as well. biggrin.gif

I'm still contemplating between the LG IPS236V-PN or Dell UltraSharp U231HM. hmm.gif

Main usages will be entertainment and photos editing.

Will mount it on the wall. biggrin.gif

Between 5ms and 8ms. hmm.gif

The response time will only matter greatly if you are watching movies or playing games which are running at an extremely fast pace. Otherwise it will not matter too much, or will not matter at all.

What is important in a monitor if you do not want any ghosting issues would be its input time. A monitor with a 5ms response time may be better than a monitor with a 8ms response time but if its input time is longer than the monitor with 8ms of response time, it could be worst.

Anyway, for most situations no one will be able to notice any form of ghosting on their monitors at all unless it's really really slow. Lets say 20ms of response time with a seriously bad display lag? smile.gif

I believe the Dell U2312HM would be more superior than the LG equivalent in terms of Picture Quality? smile.gif

But come to think of it, it's a bit ironic because Dell's IPS panels are from LG right? laugh.gif

I thought of getting the LG tomorrow from LYP Viewnet. Looks like I'll need to sit down and consider again.

I heard that the LG monitor has a horrible stand biggrin.gif.

If you prefer stand functionality and the industrial sort of look then the Dell U2312HM would be the way to go. smile.gif

Ah ha! That I agree. I'm so used to the industrial look of Dell monitors because I'm using it in the office as dual display. laugh.gif
Still, since I'm going to mount it on the wall, I guess that doesn't matter anymore. tongue.gif

Dell also offers a much better warranty policy than what LG offers. biggrin.gif The former has 3 years of warranty by default for the U2312HM and it can be extended to 5 years if you wish to do so. smile.gif Plus you get the benefit of not having to travel out of your house as Dell will send a courier to pick the item up and send it back to you free of charge.

The LG IPS236V-PN only has one year of warranty, and you're going to have to visit their service center to get it replaced. tongue.gif

What are good ways to test monitors? To check for dead pixels, different colour tint etc.?

LG have no adjustable stand, for me it's one of the most important features of monitor to have good ergonomics.. Not sure why most manufacturer opt for fancy but useless stand

u only use the display port on the monitor when ur machine supports DP output.
since ur lappy has vga and hdmi, u can either use the VGA and cable that provided
or buy hdmi to DVI cable so u can connect it with any hdmi ouput device

becuz its a consumer product and its cheaper to design and produce, therefore it sells.
u have to remember most ppl are just happy with "just works" scenarios. which is just sad.

speaking of which, I'm still waiting for samsung to release its IPS alternative, PLS.
than again, desktop monitor are not where the is but TV or mobile device and samsung is just happy with TN monitor for the time being.
But still I can't wait for Samsung S24A850 n S27A850 to arrive on Malaysia shores in the later months as initial impression looks interesting

Yeah, I noticed that part too. smile.gif
Since I have no intention to put it on my table, I guess the stand doesn't really matter to me.
Will mount it on wall, to save space and it provides convenience when I watch movies from my bed. biggrin.gif

In fact, Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 is already using their PLS panel..

The S24A850 looks good but I doubt the price would be able to match that of Dell's U2311H or even the U2412HM..
