QUOTE(lilballa @ Nov 28 2011, 10:17 PM) guys, i have a question. how do i connect my ps3 to the new dell ultrasharp U2312HM since it has no hdmi connection?? Get a hdmi to dvi cable.Other says you can use hdmi to dvi converter, but there are some reported cases that it doesnt work. So, imo better go safer route with the specific cable.

It has been a while since I last lurk in here to find information about latest LCD I need to get rid of my Dell ST2410 (TN) to replace it with an IPS panel monitor for my photography work. I have one currently, the HP LP2475w and it is no doubt a lovely screen. I'm looking for some cheaper IPS but with decent colours as well. Any recommendation? I have seen Dell now offering U2410 and U2412M which both are IPS but at different price range? Anyone here care to share more about it? IPS got different grades also?

Basically the U2410 is using a much higher grade IPS compared to U2412M which is using E-IPS and economic / cheaper version of IPS panel. Don't get me wrong, it will look better than most TN panel but don't compare it with its expensive counterpart. The U2412M has lesser input lag compared to the U2410 though. Anyways, most gamers who are looking for an IPS model swear by the U2410. If you're doing serious photography, the U2410 is the way to go for the best colour offered.

This also applies if you watch action movies. The problems are mostly with fast motion pictures which gets blurry.

Yeah, I have noticed on the input part as I'll be taking HDMI into consideration since I'll be using the monitor for my PS3 too. However, as long as it support DVI, I think it shouldn't be a problem for me to get a HDMI to DVI cable. I too have noticed in the spec that U2410 supports 1.07 billion colours and Color Gamut 110% (CIE 1976) while the U2412M supports 16.7 million colours and Color Gamut 82% (CIE 1976). Since I'll only using this as secondary when I have the HP LP2475w, I'm considering taking U2412M as the U2410 is double up the price of it. Any bad comment on U2412M yet?

Guys, i'm planning on getting the U2412m. The aspect ratio 16:10 bothers me alittle.
How are your movies playing on the screen? Do they look extremely stretched? Or the black bars are unbearable?

And no, your movie won't stretch unless you stretch your display resolution (force 1080p), and you'll see black bar. Some movies out there even has 2 huge black bar top and bottom on 1080p monitors so if that little black bar bothers you... I can't comment further.

^bluray movie also usually use higher aspect ration than 16:9, thus u will see black bar at the bottom n top of the screen.
