be a student mate. wink.gif

Written by Lim Guan Eng

According to recent news reports, foreign students in Australia will soon be eligible for work visas lasting two to four years after graduation from an Australian university under immigration rules to be introduced next year.
Australian Immigration Minister Chris Bowen was reported to have said that the expansion of the Skilled Graduate visa scheme would “help to enhance the competitiveness” of Australia's A$18bil (RM57.5bil) inbound student industry.
This would potentially allow all 220,000 foreign university students in Australia to work in any job once they graduate.

Final nail in coffin
This new Australian work visa policy for graduates is almost set to be the final nail in the coffin for Malaysia’s 4Ds of Deficits, Debts, Deceits and brain Drain.
There are an estimated 20,000 – 30,000 Malaysian students in Australia, and when this new policy is implemented next year, our country can almost be assured of an exodus of talent as they will definitely stay on to work in Australia where they can enjoy greater salaries, greater freedom and greater prospects in both life and career.
Why is it that the Australian government is able to be so proactive and quick to grab opportunities while our own government is so lackadaisical and merely standing by as droves and droves of Malaysian talent continue to leak out of the country?

May i know which places are easy to get a job?

a tough one, can't answer that. Depends also on what job you are looking for.

Petrol Station - no idea, no car, never pump petrol before. biggrin.gif

Restaurant - last time, i saw some restaurant in China town looking for ppl, if you can speak cantonese and mandarin, should have an advantage!

Since your question is whether it will be easy for a migrant to get a job over Aus, are you PR or are you going for holiday visa?

Actually, if you must go australia, die die also want to go , there is one way besides trying to get a skilled visa (or whatever crap visa) and HOPING to send THOUSANDS of resume in HOPES (fat hopes) that some company to hire you while you have enough saving (burning though it like Ferrari on petrol at full speed) to last you for your unemployment period.

The solution is simple. Instead of wasting hundreds of thousands of dollar for something not guaranteed, why not consider investing in a course to become a qualified nurse. I was told Australia is SO SHORT OF NURSES that they are willing to GIVE YOU A HIGH PAYING JOB AND sponsor you a working visa which will be converted into PR in a few years time. Isn't that just fantastic?! You get a stable job (and I was told the starting pay is quite high for nurses bout 5k-6k AUD a month before tax) and you get to live in Australia.

Since the skilled migration visa is by invitation only now, I don't think that you'd be so inexperienced when you get it that you'll have to resort to working at gas stations or Chinatown restaurants to survive.

You need to gain Australian work experience in a professional field obviously, but putting waiter in a chinatown restaurant in your resume might not help much smile.gif

Agree, IMHO, the PR application should be tougher than the job application.

Interesting article on Australia and a possible slowdown in the near future. I want to hope that this won't affect jobs much but... sad.gif

you should only plan/start the emigration when you found a job there.
doing otherwise is not advisable.

Just wanna ask, if I have a few relatives in Aussie, could they boost up my chances of getting a visa there? Am planning to go there to do my Masters as well, maybe becoming a part-time lecturer, not to sure if they have skill migration visa for lecturers? As far as I saw, its only teachers....

I submitted late 2011 and got approval in ~7 months. Most are slower than this. Some are faster. It's a lot harder to get PR nowadays though.

Congrats.

I believe urs is decision ready visa. I heard that they are just processing non decision PR application submitted end of last year.

Planning to secure your own place there? Or you already bought one before approval?

What's a decision ready visa? Not familiar with it.

Not sure what I'm going to do with the PR yet. I have 5 years to decide what to do smile.gif
