TFN, you can do it online..(ato.gov.au)
Bank account, you can do it from MY, then transfer ur money over b4 u arrive..
Medicare ?? not sure u will be entitle to it since you are not a PR. (i might be wrong)

But my advise is to do everything when you are in Australia, since you wont be working immediately once you landed...
*
Whats the advantage of setting up bank account in MY first and transfer money over first vs doing it over there since you will have to visit the bank anyway to provide your valid identification details.

will the banks need any other forms of documentation other than our passports, such as proof of residents and/or sponsors?

BTW, found a good guide for first-timers in Aussie. Sorry if repost. Link

Better don't unless you have loads of cash to burn.
What happened if you go there and cannot find a job while your cash is fully used up?
Live on the streets?

I'll be finishing my bachelor of Internetworking and Security by end of this year.
I just look through the SOL list and saw that "Computer Network and Systems Engineer" was added into the list from July.
So how do I check if I'm even recognized or not for that category ? cheers'

That is the best way I guess. You can do casual work using your working holiday visa to pay your rental + daily expenses and maybe save few hundreds a week. While doing that, you also can keep on searching for permanent job. Good luck mate!

I understand.. when I get there with holiday visa, I will just search for jobs without working.
Once get a permanent position, then I apply for work visa. Does that work??

But how to find accommodation if I'm currently in Malaysia?

do you have relatives, friends here ? you know the rental is pretty expensive rite ?
To get a job is one thing, but how much they willing to pay per hour ?
Does that job alone enough to cover all the expenses + earnings ?
currently i know a taiwanese gal who's on working visa, 2 jobs she's workin, only pay $100/week (electric, water, internet) for rent at her friends place.
and yes she earns a lot.

Well, I think it won't be more expensive than living in the UK.
I'm not looking for jobs that pay per hour, I'm looking for full time, graduate jobs. I'm thinking of going there on a holiday visa (skip the hassle of applying for working holiday visa), and while renting a place to stay for perhaps 3 months, concentrating totally on job hunting. Then once got job offer, apply for work permit. I just don't know if that's legal, but this is how it works in Europe. Thinking of living on a student budget like RM 3k per month, so can get ready ±RM 10k to spend over 3 months in Australia.

The sad thing is I've no friends/families living in Australia. sad.gif

Also, there are some examples of ppl travelling over here by using holiday visa. When they are here, they applied for jobs and got offered, the company sponsored them on the working visa. But with current economy condition, unlike the job you are looking for is in demand, else, is a bit hard. Do some research on the job demand you are interested, plan your budget. If you are a risk taker, why not? Worst come to worst, just assume you are coming for holiday!

I also knew an Iranian, got his PR then came over here. That lucky dude found a job in just a month. If you are qualified to get a PR, then it will definately easier for you to get a job in Australia.

every country system is different :-)

i will advise you to read more on DIAC website before deciding to come to Australia..

in Oz, you cant work without any visa.. for Msians, we can apply for working holiday visa, work visa (usually sponsored by employer and only if your job is highly in demand) or PR.. a lot of Msian apply PR in order to work in Oz.. as WHV doesnt exist until last few 2-3 years i think..

dun ask me what is needed to apply for PR, DIAC will be a good website for you to start and research..

submit the skill assessment to ACS(australian computing society board) and they will decide but normall it will be fine if your course/job is related

man, you just don't know hows the job searching life over here. the percentage of you being hired for "professional" job with that working holiday visa is near to 0 unless you are DAMN GOOD. even tons of fresh graduate with PR here still jobless for years and they just working part time in restaurant, etc. they won't waste their time and resources to sponsor you a visa too(tons of paperwork and they need to bear the application fee)

most of the working holiday visa came here work in restaurant as casual/part time and holiday and they really enjoy this "working holiday period"

if they not paying cash on hand then their will get minimum rate which is about $16-17 per hour and around $1.1k per fortnight after tax.

Plus he thinks getting a job (a profesional one too) in Aus can be done in 3 mths, in spite of all the unemployment in Aus and HOPE that the company will sponsor him a visa! Well yes, if you're a very very very very highly skilled, very experienced personnel!

At least you have relative/friend over there. My brother went there under tourist visa and easily found a temporary job. 2 days work can cover 1 week living expenses. i know employment is prohibited for this visa

For those who wish to apply for OZ PR after July 2012, don't put too much hope on it. The new SkillSelect policy is really tough and time consuming. Just Google skillselect for the new changes on the immigration policy

I have gotten my PR 2 months ago. It was based on the 2011 policy, it took 5 months for the entire process(Quite fast). I applied the PR through an agent in Malaysia and went through a lot of procedures. Here's the summary of it:

IELTS + Skills Accessment (Prepare certs, employment history signed by HR or manager) + State Approval (Optional if you do not have enough points)+Lodge Visa ($$$) + Health Check + Police Clearence = PR

Total damage is Rm20k++

As the policy changed, if one wish to migrate now, either enrol in the new Expresion of interest policy, or find an employer locally and transfer you there, once u worked for 2 years + ask the employer to sponsor you a PR. Looking for a job in OZ without a PR is tough, some say its the minimum requirement for each professional job.

Now I need to look for a job and a place to stay before I travel to OZ. I have not received any job offer yet although have applied a lot online...

Thanks.
That's what my friend told me. If the address and number on the resume is not in Oz, they won't entertain.
