for eg, for IT, it will be ACS.. and it does require few years experience (more than 2, if im not wrong) to get a positive assessment..
positive skills assessment (where you will be given a ASCO code) is needed for state sponsored and general skilled visa, which will determine whether ur skills is in the list or not, if your skills is not in the list, you dont even need to think further..
given you are kinda fresh, you wont be able to get a positive assessment, and since you mentioned you cant go to the Graduate visa route either
your best option now is work for few years and apply when you qualify.. and read forums frequently for the time being..to get yourself familiar with the rules...
like myself.. i waited for a year to qualify to meet the no of years experience needed, then only i apply for it.. and i DIY coz im quite comfortable with the rules since i've already read alot of forums..and wanted to save money as well...
there's no shortcut if your skills are not in demand or u cant get employer sponsored.. unless you got a lot of money to migrate..

I have read up on the nominated jobs, but I have no idea how it works. Do I need to get the state's approval or something? Can someone enlighten me on how this concept works?
