anyone using Shiruba 303 power filter? is it suitable for 2 feet tank?

Happy new year plantese. I am from ipoh. I just purchased a taiyo cannister 1200. May i know wht is liy pipe functions? Is there any inflow or outflow of lily pipe? Means need buy 2? I am quite new. Started this hobby 2 mths ago. I m in planted tanks. Wana to knw do i need to buy those baja(fertilizer) for soil? If yes, wht brand?my tank is 50cm. Please advise

I use Sera Florena Liquid Plant Fertilizer as recommended by NA. just a few drops weekly for my moss and riccia. I also put a layer of base fert below my holland sand. If you use soil, I guess liquid fert will be sufficient. Maybe other Sifu can add some comments.

its okay for a few months, u may having a nutrient depleation after that, nutrients are categorized in 2 common types, which is micro and macro, for micro, u can use a few brand in the market such as Sera florena, Seachem Flourish, etc....for macro, it consist of 3 major elements, N=Nitrogen P=phosphorus K=Magnesium (Kalium)..do google for it, i'm using Seachem brand, it's doing well for my tanks...(taikor, do i confused micro and macro...pardon me.... )

Macro: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), and Potassium(K)

Magensium = Mg consider micro/trace elements

by the way, can any1 explain to me the function of lily pipe? nearly 2 feet tank..i see the hose (green) v ugly. my tank is crystal clear type, n in a sudden, can see the green hose from the back attached with the green batang (inflow & outflow).

1. i wana to know the functions of lily pipe.
2. if i buy, is it sell seperate for inflow and outflow or it comes together?
3. my canister is Taiyo CF1200. how to buy as i knw there is size for it.

it improve the areation n helps to remove the thin oil on the surface in additional to have a aesthethic look to your tank

it come in a pair (inlet n outlet) + spring brush + suction cup (commonly)

it come in a few size, check your hose size

i'm actually quite blur in this area

how do you know if u need to dose N,P or K ?

N & P can get from fish waste, so only need to dose K ?

I understand plants also need a lot of iron. so does supplement like seachem iron ?

hi, anybody replace their T5HO? my aging 2ft light looks deem. Place to replace them. But LFS sell very expensive. How much they sell in light shop? mine is 24Wx3. any specific kelvin when i ask the light shop?

another one d answered by bro amafz, different type of pipe outflow will give different type of flow too, try compare ADA lily pipe and poppy pipe

can be purchase in single piece actually.. depends on buyer, but of course its cheaper to get in set lor

Added on January 4, 2012, 10:15 amif not mistaken the inlet size is 16mm and outlet is 12mm
so u need to use 13mm outlet lily pipe and 17mm inlet lily pipe....
usually the cheap lilies sell in pair....but u can try to check ANS brand....but the glass to thin, brake couple of it b4....
i hv CADE in stock but unfortunately in sell in pair set....

consider GUSH, is no too cheap n not expensive as well, so so but the glass also good.....
but currently im using BW...the glass resistance very good....drop couple of time already, hit my tank while it loose from suction cup during off light aeration...

for the hose u can simply find it any hrdware shop....ACE hardware sell the size for those in n out....but u can try any LHS(local hardware shop) cheaper...

Added on January 4, 2012, 10:30 amK need to supply since it will not stay in ur water tank....thats why fert in market selling K...ADA brighty K, BW essense K, Super K, Seachem potassium

iron needed for stronger roots n stems....and it also make red plant redder...
usually i supply it at root base by using BW boost A....ADA also got...iron bottom....but i prefer boost A, result good n cheaper...
so i no need to supply iron so frequent....but time by time i use Azoo solid iron....
one of my fren using his wife pregnancy med....its contain iron....u can try if u want...

iron cant be mixed with other trace in 1 bottle, thats y they sell seperately...its not result a chemical reaction, it just make ur fertilizer dregs....

bro, u can refer Book of ADA for more details about fert....

regarding to the hose, once i use lily, can maitain the green or need to get a transparent (white)?

CADE r better than ANS....the only thing is the outlet openning too small compare to GUSH, BW or ADA
u can use the green color hose...no issue...but i think it not blend with lilies n tank, but its my personal pov huhu...

5 elements actually is not fertilizer, it just to make ur tank mature faster...n maintain long lifespan of ur soil n BB
even amano during his talk in KL say this is not mandatory...but if u hv no patient...just use it...

u need K since day 1 or 2 actually....then follow by trace week or 2 later...
but if ur tank in good condition, mean the plants are growing nicely...u dont hv to supply too much fert....use plant as indicator....

p.s: pmed ur the lilies price....

CADE lilypipe is not very useful in my opinion besides for aesthethic appearance. The outlet is narrow and glass is thicker compare to better quality lilypipe such as ADA/BW.

Lilypipe will help to provide broader and gentle flow compare to original outlet. I would recommend getting a proper one to have sufficient flow throughout the tank. Having dead spot will induce algae growth.

Keep your tank simple and avoid dosing too many stuff. I wouldnt recommend dosing iron unless you really sure. Algae will usually follow if overdosed (staghorn algae). Personally, my tank has been kept healthy for over a year now (ADA Amazonia I - soil is about 1.5yrs) with only daily dosing of BW Essence K and BW Growth (about 1ml each daily). Occasionally I insert BW Boost A into the soil and sprinkle BW Minerax especially after major trimming.
