QUOTE(wickedghost @ Sep 14 2011, 03:52 PM) I got an offer with a singaporean co. but I will be working at bintan, indonesia. The downside is they are going to apply for me indonesia work visa. So I am not sure whether is a good offer or not? Why is that a downside? Don't you need an Indonesian work visa to work in Bintan? |

QUOTE(wickedghost @ Sep 14 2011, 07:18 PM) I was hoping for EP visa...so that I can apply PR in future...aih...maybe I should demand for higher pay! Are you willing to sacrifice every aspect of your social life for S$2.8k? I was sent to Bintan when I was under the brief employment under a Singaporean company. The thing about Bintan is that while their resorts are generally awesome, the industrial estate is largely undeveloped and smack dab in the middle of nowhere. It takes 45 bloody minutes to travel by car from the resort port to the industrial estate! There, you will find no shopping malls, no movie theatres, no restaurants, nothing. The closest semblance of civilisation you will find will be some small convenience stores and a nearby village which doesn't even have a proper tar road. I'm not too sure about your accommodation, but I was assigned one of the same hostel rooms that was occupied by the Indonesian operators. FYI, there won't be any fixed Internet connection, so your phone will be your best friend there. Now you know why I was only 'briefly' employed in that company. They did not mention Bintan at all during the interview or in the contract, and their conduct was pretty unscrupulous, probably because they knew they would have a hard time getting professionals to stick around in Bintan for long. I was sent there on my third week with the company with little warning with an Indian engineer and a Filipino admin staff who were also newly hired, and all of us left by the second week. If you die die also want to earn that S$2.8k and are willing to surrender your life for it, then go ahead. Otherwise, I am positive that there are plenty of better opportunities in Singapore. You just have to look hard enough. Edit : If you want to get into the OnG industry, FMC Technologies is hiring graduate engineers a while back. Why don't you try applying there? QUOTE(seanwc101 @ Sep 11 2011, 08:50 PM) Did they recommend you to the person doing the recruitment? Are they hold higher position/influential in the firm? even my friend has emailed my resume and forward it to the HR recruitment officer. HR recruiter has the power to call intervee to attend the interview. sucks even not managed the tests at Pwc.My brother in law work in MNC and involve in the recruitment of new employees for the firm. Friends/family that want to work there can get recommendation from him and they got accepted for the job. Another case is in my faculty where the Dean always bring in their relatives to become a lecturer. Of course they have the qualifications but not sure how good they are. Talking about nepotism...haha. This happen in where I live and I can't generalised it in other country such as SG. In your case, you're able to prove to the company that they need you for the job. Congrats! Added on September 11, 2011, 8:51 pm Why do you think so? Just need some clarification on this because I'm just about to find job and don't know much. At kpmg I failed the interview after I told I have cousin there. I think big 4 don't accept family working there. at the MNC now, until now I don't know who was the decision maker who hired me, I think my Finance Manager got the power> the HR manager. It's not about who you know, but how much they need you. sorry, it's forbes 1500 list since it is european MNC. |

Employing new ones and relocating them will be a more cost-effective way. The seniors will probably be a ‘helicopter’ team that travel back & fro before the new staff can fully take over the operation independently. That’s just my take. |

They may be employed in Singapore, with an Indonesia business visa. Therefore, they pay tax to Singapore Government. |
