Why dont your company get contracts to equip older oil tankers with wifi?

Seems like mostly rigs and FPSO get that treatment.

Previously i was from outsource company.Mostly the IT manager will have their own preference vendor to supply and install the equipment. they dun even compare the pricing and just proceed with 1 vendor laugh.gif . All the big network provided player like pacific.net,rig.net and etc will be their choices.

They got the money and most of the staff onboard the rigs or FPSO need network access since we need to constantly send e-mails and VPN into the company servers to do our job.

I heard that some if not all of the US navy aircraft carriers have implemented some sort of internet accelerating technology which is able to cut down on bandwidth usage.

Yup, each of the rigs or FPSO will equip with at least 1 white color globe as access point to connect back to their satellite. It will live, 24x7 monitoring and technical support by their IT personal. The crews is also working on 24x7, that why they need consistence connection.i once been on board for few days, cant escape when needed, their will dig through all the way to look for you. biggrin.gif

Well, your not IT support for nothing. You work long enough onboard for the weekly BBQ?

Hey guys, I'm new to Singapore. Fresh, started my first a week ago.

I've been looking on the net and asking colleagues about opening a bank account. Based on the relatively simple research I did, the ones I've shortlisted are:
1) Stanchart (no minimum deposit for opening an account, 1% rebate for a type of debit)
2) DBS (convenience - plenty of ATMs is the sole reason)
3) UOB (convenience - a branch right next to my workplace)

My habits are relatively simple because I'm living in JB (may and may not move to SG) - I spend very little in Singapore i.e. just cheap meals (SGD3-4/meal) to get through the day and the occasional movie/better meals. I do the rest like groceries etc in JB. I'm thinking about UOB since my habits and spending behaviour are relatively stable (UOB has a branch next to my workplace and according to my colleagues, the payday crowd at ATMs isn't as bad as DBS - I'm working in the CBD)

I'd love to hear some opinions and advices from you guys.

Thanks in advance.

for me i believe it is good to have 2 bank accts... 1 from a local bank 1 foreign... and how i choose the banks are based on what their cc offers

local bank you can opt for: dbs / uob

foreign bank: citibank / stan chart

these are good combos

Try to get a posb/dbs account. Their ATM machine are like mushroom everywhere. Very convenience.

For matters regarding JB, can pm Lester1987 a.k.a The JB King.

If I were you, I would use Maybank SG or CIMB SG to bank in my salary, and have a corresponding MY account in JB. You can use the Sg ATM card to withdraw cash in My where most of your spending will be. Saves you the trouble of changing money. Having accounts with the same bank on both sides allows you to move very large amounts of money across the causeway within the same day if necessary, very conveniently and securely, and straightaway use it to pay large bills in My using ibanking as well. Both MBB and CIMB give better savings interest rates than local banks, free cheques and credit cards with more promotions if used in My.

Then if you want an account for emergency use when you're in Sg, open one at the UOB near your workplace. You can use internet banking to transfer money into it. It's free. I also like Std Chartered because their ibanking can pay credit card bills issued by other banks. That means I can get cc from other banks and never have visit their branch or atm nor mail any cheques to pay. After receiving the promotions and waiting for the lock in period to expire, just call and cancel.

Hi there, I would like to ask if there's anyone who's currently working in Spore.

I am currently looking for an engineering intern job based in Singapore for my training purposes and would love to get opinions and advices from fellow lowyat-ian.

I am still looking for companies whereby I hope they do accept interns from Malaysia. :/

are my chances of getting an intern pretty small?
