I'm going back hometown next week, was thinking to get some moon cake for family but I heard it is somehow expensive to get from Singapore? Any better suggestion ?

I heard Chinatown has good rate.

people here always recommend Raffles Money Exchange Pte Ltd located in Raffles Place and Jurong Point but i do admit they offer attractive rates.

small audit firm like mine forces me to take 2 weeks unpaid leave while my colleagues who joined the same as mine dont have to. only me. the reason is being non-peak for audit firm and there's no job for me whereas i know my friends got 2 cases on hand. we're just fresh graduates with 3 months experience. i dont think i'm inferior to them. why is it so unfair though i heard of this kind of situation before.

did you guys have ever experienced this? vmad.gif

2 possibilities:

1. you *think* you're not inferior but your bosses think otherwise,

or,

2. just bad luck. your bosses no matter what would have forced one of you three guys to take unpaid leave and you were the unlucky one who was chosen randomly.
*
ok. same as what i thought. however, is it even legal for them to do this? i'm bonded for 2 years and yet they can simply force the staff to take unpaid leave. it's more like a part-time job to me. whenever they need me, i must work. when they do not need me, they can just kick me away without even having to pay me? what nonsense is that?
the reason for having no job is plain an excuse. the firm doesnt have job during non-peak is not my problem right? it's the industry cycle they have to bear but i become the victim? what do you think?

So... what options do you think you have? Complaining and reporting them (to whom I wonder)... will that make them suddenly want you to come to work everyday, be nicer to you and give you paid leave instead?

Why don't you just resign and work somewhere else?
*
most probably MOM. it's not easy to switch job as what i'm in now. 3 months working experience and bonded.

There's no official rule prohibiting a pass holder leaving a job within a certain period of time.  However, leaving too soon might give MOM the impression that you're a job hopper which will not go well with your pass application/renewal in the future.
*
i'm not a job hopper. they have better candidate and sack me before i'm confirmed as permanent staff. what to do? does the company have to submit the reason when they cancel my employment pass?

What, just like that? blink.gif

What company are you working for?
*
SME audit firm. their reason of course being performance reviewed and decided not to confirm me as permanent staff when i have been put at the sideline since the beginning compared to the rest joining the same time as me. i knew i would leave soon or later but never thought they wont even let me through the probation.

now that tax issue really bothers me. 15% is hell lots of money to me. hopefully i can get a job soon.

Is the company called Heng Lee Seng, by any chance? I've heard such practices being done in SME audit firms, when it is off-peak period they unceremoniously unloads the new staff.

Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the govt will tax you 15% off your last pay whether you like it or not and you can only request for a refund once you have worked for a total of 6 months in Singapore. Get your finances in order ASAP.

*
no. not that one. i'm already at unpaid leave due to off-peak for 2 weeks. on the flip side, they also recruited 2 new fresh graduates.

15% of last pay (October) or the entire employment period in SG?

Depends on your qualification and experience. It's okay for a fresh grad (engineering fresh grads get between SGD2.5-3k) but if you have a few years under your belt I'd say it isn't worth it.

If you can earn more than RM5k consistently back home, don't give it up for a job that pays SGD2.5k.
15% of your entire employment period with the company you are leaving.

The tax only applies to those who have worked between 61-182 days in Singapore, they will be taxed as a non-resident.

I know, but I've always had the assumption that unless the employee gave the employer a very good reason to not keep them, probation periods are more of a formality.

Guess not.

approximately how long will IRAS take to come after me for tax payment? i really have to land a job here as soon as possible.

As soon as your company informs MOM of your resignation, IRAS will deduct the 15% amount from your October pay.

FYI, I switched jobs after 3 months without knowing and was put through this shit firsthand  cry.gif

but you did a get job shortly after that right? my concern is still securing a job that i desire in SG.

Wow! I hate to be you....
I think the company will not give reasons for cancellation but if they do, yr screwed. Sorry to rub it in but dismissal for non-performance is a big no-no in any hunt for a new job in SG when they do reference checks. (the name of your ex-company appears in your Work Permit forms when you apply yr work permit previosly).....

even so, i could do nothing. i'm already prepared for the worst though. sad.gif

Thanks guys for your replies.

I see a lot of express buses that ply Sin-KL-Sin leave from Golden Mile Complex. From the map the nearest MRT is Lavender. Can anyone advise the best way to get from the MRT station to Golden Mile Complex? If by bus, can you advise the bus number and if by taxi, what will be the fare like?

I am intending to take the around midnight time express bus from KL and reach Sin first thing on Monday morning and go straight to work. How long does it take for midnight express bus to reach Sin?

Thanks ahead for your valuable advice.
*
Nicoll Highway MRT station is nearer. Lavander is within walking distance too. around 10 minutes. 12am transnational bus from Tasik selatan will reach Singapore at around 6am costing RM46.

Thanks for your replies.

Oh yes...Nicoll Hgwy MRT is definitely nearer. Thanks for the tip....overlooked this MRT Station.

What time does it reach the Malaysian immigration in Gelang Patah(?) for the midnight express bus?

Another Q, as I would want to sleep on the bus, which express would you recommend for comfort? Luxury is not a main criteria but comfort is upmost. Since I will be sleeping....no food required too! Lets not put cost into consideration for this, i.e., can be a higher price ticket.

Thanks again.

assuming 12am sets out, 4 hours to arrive at JB. i think by 4.30am should reach Malaysia immigration already. so far, transnational serves me well.

Hi guys, I would like to ask which is the fastest road to go to Tanjong Pagar from Johor Bahru using public transport.

I have 2 routes in mind:
1)CIQ and take MRT to Tanjong Pagar?
2)Bukit Indah buses to SG and to Tangong Pagar?

Or any other recommended ways?
*
my quickest record from Tanjong Pagar to Larkin, JB bus station is 1.5 hours by public transport including clearing immigration. smile.gif
