Yes but it does not answer my question..

If they reduce your line or cut your card, the outstanding balance tagged to the line will need to be cleared off in 2 years time.

EG 1:
You got line of RM10k. Balance of RM8k. If they cancel your card, then your balance of RM8k will need to be paid off in 2 years time. Usually they will term it out into 2 years tenor.

EG 2:
You got line of RM10k. Balance of RM8k. And in the event they reduce your line to RM5k, thus the balance of RM3k will be termed off to a 2 years tenor loan for you to clear off.

The exact mechanism, am not sure. But most probably they will put it into an installment plan of 2 years tenor.

Hi all

Is it very important to have the name on the credit card to match with your ic or passport name?

I have just gotten a credit card with my english name ie : james leong instead of my full name as per ic or passport.

Will i get any trouble using that card ? especially in oversea where they might require u to show ur passport to verify your identity when you are using your credit card ?

Display name on the card doesn't necessary to match as per IC.

Just answered your own question there haven't you? Also, there are some places locally that ask for IC, not just overseas.

It isn't mandatory but much encouraged. The last thing we want when we are abroad is for people to think we have cards that do not belong to us in our possession. Therefore, to play safe, stick to the name that's as close as possible to your passport / nric.

Is that really important? Oh gosh! I have just requested UOB bank to change my name on the card from fullname (English name + fullname as per IC) to English name + surname only.

From MBB FAQ http://www.maybank2u.com.my/WebBank/FAQ_BNM030411.pdf

You will also be given the option of settling the amount under the same repayment plan prior to the card being cancelled or restructure your card balances.

It seems many still are not aware of BNM guidelines even though it has been announced for months. So posted a short article at my wordpress blog. Click here to read Bank Negara Credit Card Guidelines

Won't pose a problem. It's not that your credit card display name is totally different from your real name. My dad's full name in his IC is (English name + Chinese surname + given name). However, all his credit cards only bear his name in English name + Chinese surname and it has not given him any trouble whenever he's overseas smile.gif

Talking bout name on card, I found MBB to be very lenient. I have cards with only my surname in 4 characters. On the other hand, Citibank needs to have all the initial on my cards, eg. Daniel Ariff , name on card Daniel A., won't do with just Daniel.

After years of using credit cards, only came across an online merchant questioned why my real name did not tally with my name on card. It was mandatory in their country (US). However, that was about 7-8 years back. Never have a problem with recent shopping frenzy in Paris and Italy at all.

Sure. Why not ? I think someone said it before that banks can see how much you pay too each month (can't be seen on the public CCRIS). So if you only pay the minimum every month, this may affects your chance to get another credit card too.

Bank will do a credit assessment on you. Payment on time would not indicate actual ability for you to pay your debt.
Example
1. A person with a CL of RM100K and CL utilisation 80% pays in full and on time every month. (RM0 debt, have capability to pay RM80K per month)
2. A person with a CL of RM100K and CL utilisation 80% pays on time every month. (RM76K debt, only have capability to pay RM4K per month)
3. A person with a CL of RM3K and CL utilisation 80% pays in full and on time every month. (RM0 debt, have capability to pay RM3K per month)
4. A person with a CL of RM3K and CL utilisation 80% pays and on time every month. (RM2.28K debt, have capability to pay RM120 per month)

As per illustration above, payment on time is should never be the only criteria. Banks are very through in credit assessment.
Payment is on time is just one of the many evaluation criteria. You know your own debt levels and ability to pay on a monthly basis ... that's your answer.

Can the other banks check whether someone pays in full or just the minimum for another bank's credit card or they are just able to get the same information as us from BNM through looking at the CCRIS record.

Yeah, they can check our CL and how much we owe tho CCRIS but can they check how much we pay every month? It will be good if they could check how much we pay every month.

Lets say A has a CL of 5K but spends 3K every month and pay in full every month. In his CCRIS, it will show CL 5K, outstanding 3K and payment reocrd 0 0 0 0 0.

However, B also has a CL of 5K and has an outstanding of 3K but just able to pay every month the minimum only of 5%. In B CCRIS too it will show CL 5K, outstanding 3K and payment record 0 0 0 0 0.

Bankers have access to check how much payment made each month through Cardpac not through CCRIS. However, afaik, Cardpac is strictly for internal use.

The discussion arise because someone decide to apply new credit card coz 80% of CL utilized and thinks the bank will approve just on the basis payment is on time.
