I have a question, if my credit limit is rm4000k, I have already used up to rm3600, will I still able to swipe for rm600?

Is there any charges and how will it affect my scores?
*
You wont be able to swipe.

QUOTE(hye @ Jun 6 2011, 12:23 AM)
Yes ... not all bank allow this and yes ... there's that overlimit fee (varies from bank to bank) you need to worry about. Plus the amount overlimit must be paid in full, the 5% rules does not apply for the overlimit amount. If it is accidental then it is OK since most people don't keep track of the CL utilization, however the person who asked the question was aware of his current CL standing but (seems) wants to intentionally exceed his CL.

The T&C for most banks have changed since then. Last year SCB, immediately blocked my card the moment an overlimit occurs. Need to clear CL before card is unblocked by the bank which took a few days after payment is done.
*
This also varies from bank to bank. AFAIK, most banks dont block your card if you over swipe it. It just reject that particular transaction. They will call you and verify if it was you that did the transaction.

Recently I tried to swipe 1.6k into my PBB card but it was rejected because I didnt know it hit the CL already. Immediately, 2 calls (both different officer called and verify whether if I was the person that did the transaction or not). Hours later, I used the same card and swipe for something that was within my credit limit and it went through without any hiccup.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Oct 1 2011, 01:12 AM)
Agree with you in general. But not everyone is as smart as you.
I have stated that BT and Installment are traps by the banks to make more profits. They offer 0% "loans" but actually hoping one only pays 5% and therefore can charge 18% on the balance.  IF no 0% BT and Installment, no one gains or lose. Moreover, these plans are not a standard feature of cards, and if the banks are not making money out of it, why do they offer these promos.
Anyway, benefits that comes with a card should be considered as privileges. For example, the higher ranked cards (Premier cards) have much more benefits than lower ranked cards (classic or gold). And since when the world is fair?
Policies have to change with time (for the better).
Agree with you too.

Actually this is what I wrote in my article titled Credit Card Minimum Income Raised to RM24K back in March.

BNM should have taken the following steps:

1) Annual Income Requirement RM24K is okay with me because we should not penalize those who are smart to use credit cards for their personal benefits.
2) For those earning less than RM60K, the Credit Limit should be capped at no more than 3 times monthly fixed salary combining all the credit limit from all issuers or equivalent to 3 times the amount declared in Income Tax Form divided by 12.
3) No cash withdrawal allowed with credit cards or maximum withdrawal of not more than a month's salary. This is the source of most people's debt.
4) Stop all Balance Transfer Promotions. Many people think this is "free" money and those who do not control their spending don't understand that eventually with time their debt will be accumulating as they continue to swipe with their credit card while still owing the banks in the Balance Transfer Plans. These people do not understand the word debt.
5) Increase the GST to RM100. Those who cannot afford it won't use credit cards but will get Debit Cards instead.
6) The banks are not allowed to increase a card holder credit limit if he/she has outstanding balance for 12 consecutive months.

However, with current household debt at 76% of GDP, this is very worrisome (what if you add government debt?) and BNM has announced measures to tackle this matter as reported in The Star today. Anyway, for those who can actually pay in full and need high CL, they get always can AMEX charged card where the CL (yes AMEX Charge Card also got CL) is based on spending pattern.
*
I agree with all of the above except point 5. It is unfair to penalize by increasing the GST just to deter people from applying from for CC. If someone is planning to go a debt spree, thinking that credit card is free cash tool, an extra RM 50 would not deter them at all. The group of people that will suffer the most are the real CC users for benefits like most of us here.

QUOTE(cenkudu @ Oct 1 2011, 03:06 PM)

Nop, it will show the last 4 digits only. It will be XXXX XXXX XXXX 1234. Same as your charge slip that you get.

Big Bad Wolf bookfair in MAPES is having 5% discount for OCBC cardmembers off the total bill.

They are promoting the Titanium like mad over there. They have like not less than 30 promoters walking around and pushing everyone to apply. You will get a RM 10 or was it RM 20 voucher (can't remember) to buy books and also giving out trolley bag for new applicant (not sure the trolley bag is a while stock last item or not).

There a thread on GST, go check it out. Anyway, no harm trying to request for it, you never know. But if you want to cancel the card, then the chances of them offering you something to offset the GST is there, but it will be back to square one next year. But if it is a HSBC card, no need to waste time.

To All: I got my new VI today that I have been wanting for a long time smile.gif But, it does not have many benefits....

On October 1st i saw this promotion and head down to epicenter to purchase my MBA with mastercard. I called them when i saw that my card wasn't credited with the correct x6 points. They told me the points will be credited at the end of month. However, at the end of months i was credited with my installment bill but no points and called them up again and they told me the promotion stated that its only for AMEX?  blink.gif

We went there with 3 people using Mastercard, all 3 of us saw the promotion was for Visa/Mastercard and i even called the helpdesk to confirm. After 1 month, the T&C suddenly change instead of 6x we get 1x points.

IS THIS A SCAM? D:

WHAT DO I DO? D:
*
QUOTE(b00n @ Nov 4 2011, 05:55 PM)
Do you have the printout of the promotion?
If you have you can definitely go to tribunal or complain to them about that.

Else you would just need to push your luck by complaining that the helpdesk informed that you guys qualified and you're goign to create a big hoohah out of this by complaining to the relevant parties.
*
I can't find the promo on their website but confirmed is Visa/Mastercard. I was there on Oct 1st purchasing the iPad and saw the deal. Then when I wanted to pay, I only realised that the promo was not applicable for iPad purchases. So, I took back my Master and paid with my Amex instead since it is 5X the points.

Behold the new Manchester United Credit Card

Took me 45 minutes from the submission of the form to taking of the card at 1U card centre. The card is matte like the UOB One Card. Love the red border around the card.

Sigh, paying so much just to keep the United crest in my wallet.

I applied for Standard Chartered Visa Gold ... but the rep said I can only submit 1 source of income. I'm working for a company and also doing my own business, registered with SSM and have Maybank corporate bank statements.

I asked him why can't I submit my work+business income, he said international banks only accept 1 source of income. Is this true?

The problem is if they only accept my work income, my pay will be below RM36,000. If they accept both then it will be higher than RM36,000. I'm worried it will cause problems for me if I were to apply more cards in the future
*
You only need 24K pa for SCB Gold.

Thanks again Bro.
Much better now, I bet Citibank will come back here soon and advertise since now they have promo RM150 cash back for new applicants.
To All: I just published a short article on HSBC 10X Reward Points and OCBC Additional 2% Cash Back for Overseas Transactions.

The HSBC Promo only good for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and capped at RM3,300/card

OCBC promo applicable on all days but they only allocated RM8000 per week. Looks like those swiping on weekends won't be getting the 2% but still got chance to win the MacBook Air.

Click here to read my article on Overseas Promo.

Gen-X, you forgot to mention this smile.gif

QUOTE(hye @ Dec 7 2011, 04:10 PM)
Bank will do a credit assessment on you. Payment on time would not indicate actual ability for you to pay your debt.
Example
1. A person with a CL of RM100K and CL utilisation 80% pays in full and on time every month. (RM0 debt, have capability to pay RM80K per month)
2. A person with a CL of RM100K and CL utilisation 80% pays on time every month. (RM76K debt, only have capability to pay RM4K per month)
3. A person with a CL of RM3K and CL utilisation 80% pays in full and on time every month. (RM0 debt, have capability to pay RM3K per month)
4. A person with a CL of RM3K and CL utilisation 80% pays and on time every month. (RM2.28K debt, have capability to pay RM120 per month)

As per illustration above, payment on time is should never be the only criteria. Banks are very through in credit assessment.
Payment is on time is just one of the many evaluation criteria. You know your own debt levels and ability to pay on a monthly basis ... that's your answer.
*
Can the other banks check whether someone pays in full or just the minimum for another bank's credit card or they are just able to get the same information as us from BNM through looking at the CCRIS record.

Yeah, they can check our CL and how much we owe tho CCRIS but can they check how much we pay every month? It will be good if they could check how much we pay every month.

Lets say A has a CL of 5K but spends 3K every month and pay in full every month. In his CCRIS, it will show CL 5K, outstanding 3K and payment reocrd 0 0 0 0 0.

However, B also has a CL of 5K and has an outstanding of 3K but just able to pay every month the minimum only of 5%. In B CCRIS too it will show CL 5K, outstanding 3K and payment record 0 0 0 0 0.

Almost 600 @ Sky Bar traders hotel.
