Sorry to hear that. maybe can go to maxis center and ask them to set it up for you.

finally found a solution from HERE.

Apparently, GB has an issue with the APN with 'mms' only (to avoid heavy data charges) and most Ace & Galaxy S that have upgraded to GB from Froyo have ths problem.

Hi Sifus, I'm currently on 2.3.4 stock ROM. Having problem with taking screenshot with the menu+back. Was working in froyo before. Anybody facing this issue? Any solutions?

sync issue usually caused by not enough processor power or ram. Anyhoo, i usually d/l my vids onto phone at 640 res via tubemate. Plays flawlessly with QQplayer.

Just want to share some info.

I have been using the Galaxy Ace for six months plus. Depending on the usage, I have to charge the battery every one to two days. I realised that its a matter of time before the stock battery (that came with the phone) starts to deteriorate so I have been checking around online for a suitable replacement battery. I finally ordered the Andida battery from www.obostore.com. Costs USD 8.99 (approx RM 30) and comes with free shipping. Shipping took about eight days. I received it two days ago. The battery is claimed to be 1800mAh compared with the stock battery 1350 mAh. I do not have the knowledge or equipment to test this claim but for the price, if it performs similar to the stock battery, I am happy. Have been using it for the past two days and initial performance is OK. Appears to be at least as good as the stock battery when new.

If anyone else has experience with this battery or other batteries, feel free to share your feedback. Given the relatively frequent charging cycles compared with the traditional non-smartphones, I am sure all users will need to look for decent cost-effective replacement batteries sooner or later.

Hi Ace users,
it's time for my gf to flash rom or at least update her firmware to 2.3.x since she is still on the old froyo firmware and SOD is very common. However i am confused on stuff which are very different from my HTC Desire, so before i start i thought asking you guys is a good idea so that i dont screw up.

1. First of all. Why is the ROMs firmware specific? some ROMs can only flash through KPH and some KPN? if this is what it means, then how would i update her firmware? Is it by odin 4.38 or something and flash it right on top of her froyo? (like many of the guides out there teach) And i must upgrade to that particular FW so that i can flash a particular ROM (eg. Code-XXKPH or Villian-KPN)? FW update needs the phone unrooted?

2. After FW update, perhaps i can flash a ROM. So what is the steps of flashing ROM? is it through recovery (cwm flash zip file)? or some ROMs need to flash through odin?

3. Also, if a ROM is stated to have A2SD, i would need to partition her SD card to ext4 for A2SD am i correct? what about swap partition? any needed?

I appreciate all the replies and sorry that i ask this much. I flash my Desire with fairly easy steps and rooting = installing recovery. But i dont see this is the case for samsung phones.

Thanks.

yo mate,

will try to answer based on my limited knowledge. Just a sharing from my personal views.

1. If i am not mistaken, the ROMS being firmware specific may be because of the baseband. So, if for example some ROMS you flashed you cannot connect to the m'sia cell towers .

However, i have had no problem flashing the official 2.3.4 for Europe. Works perfectly.

Basically, what i did was just to grab the ROM i wanted (KPH, or KPE, or whichever GB one). Then, run ODIN, making sure i had the USB drivers for Samsung installed.

Then choose the correct files to map for each of the items, and flash. Thats it. No need to unroot, etc etc beforehand.

2. afaik, all the ROMS are flashed through ODIN ( At least, that's how i did it. ) Didn't do any firmware update...

3. this one, not sure. Never tried those custom ones for my SGA .

Hope helped you a bit. I agree that flashing samsung is a bit more complicated - on my Moto, just one file, run RSDLite and thats it

thanks for the reply.

I thought some ROMs need a certain (say XXKPH) before we can flash it? so is it i need to upgrade the firmware first cause hers is like dinosaur firmware.

2. i know usually samsung should flash through odin but i've seen some roms saying copy into sd card and flash zip from recovery (exact same thing i did for my desire.) so i asked just to confirm. Anyway, thanks.

I have no problem being complicated and all, i just want it to success so i can continue flashing roms for her.

may i ask what rom you flash? im not so sure about the compatibility with malaysian cell tower thingy.
Thanks alot.

I am currently on gingerbread and using link2sd. Every time i reboots the phone, it will prompt me to remount my 2nd partition. Anybody facing this problem? I tried to recreate the mount script but it came back with a 'script cannot be created' error...

upgrade to gingerbread first. if the custom rom use XXKPH as a base then you should flash to XXKPH.

2.custom rom can either be flashed through odin or cwm recovery. depends on the rom. for example, cm7 is flashed through cwm recovery.
