What you want a card for when you don't know? And what are your montly expenses. Do you know you got to pay RM50 to the government yearly even if you don't use the card?

Seriously, if you do not know why you want a credit card, don't get one because you may have headaches when your card is cloned or used for fraudulent charges. Or worst still, you may spend beyond youe means.

For Petrol, I would recommend UOB One Card as you can earn 5% cash back at all petrol stations.

If you entertain a lot, check if they accept Amex, if they do, once your salary hit RM30K, apply for Maybankard 2 Card. Most night clubs in KL accept AMEX.

Income can come in many forms and not necessary salary. Dividend are also considered income and taxable and should be reported.

1. Annual Income: RM48 to RM60K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate Only, AirMiles, Overseas Transactions, Online purchases

4. Existing credit cards if any: HLB MTV, has been using for more than a year already.

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks:

6. Others: I am used to pay debt via interbank transfer, has account with CIMB, HLB and HSBC. Preferably cash back and rewards point, would want to use the point to pay off service tax.

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Less than RM1K, normally. sometimes my spend reaches 3k-5k a month.

I am looking to change because HLB implemented a new security feature which is not accepted by a number of merchants, for example Valve software as their site do not have options for the feature to take place. Hence no purchases can be made and as for benefits, the MTV card does not give as much as others do such as insurance or movie or dine-in

ok, for petrol, then get either OCBC Titanium as mentioned by chem or UOB One Card where you can get 5% cash rebate.

It is most unwise to withdraw cash using credit card as the interest rate is very high.

Don't know what is your problem but one way is to get another job part time.

Both of you are looking into entry level cards and just your luck that UOB just revamp their One Card where you can get 5% cash rebate for petrol and 2% for groceries i.e. TESCO, GIANT etc. Go to UOB Thread to read more or click below

Click here to read my article about Revamp UOB One Card - It's A Pure Cash Back Card July 2011.about

However since both of you are new to credit card, you application may be rejected.

Franc, since you need at least RM5K credit limit. Bank Negara Ruling is that for people earning less than RM36K, they can only have credit cards issued by maximum two banks and the max credit limit is 2X your monthly salary per bank. So let's say if you monthly salary is RM2K, the maximum credit limit per bank is RM4K. So for your case you may need two cards. If you earn RM30K, get Maybankard 2 Cards on top of UOB One Card.

However, since you travel a lot, you have other options -

1. apply for American Express Charge Card where there is no fix credit limit but depending on your usage.
2. get a debit card, where at least you can withdraw cash for emergency while overseas and not subjected to interest charges.

Click here to read more on my article on BNM ruling for credit cards.

For cashback cc, do consider Maybankard 2 Gold/Plat AMEX, OCBC Titanium MC & UOB One Visa .

Sorry Bro missed you post doh.gif

However please note that you got to choose if you want pure cash cash back or airmiles. Anyway with you spending only less than RM1K per month, pointless for you to go with airmiles card, your points may not be even enough to offset GST.

As ben83 mentioned, I agree with him in your case go for MBB 2, OCBC TMC and UOB 1 Card. However note than MBB Amex not accepted by most insurance company except Takaful. And as for online security, I got no idea what you talking about sweat.gif go ask at the relevant card threads and see other can assist you.

Click here to read my article on OCBC Titanuim MasterCard. And from there, go click on MBB 2 and UOB 1 Card links.

Anyone knows best credit card for use overseas eg. Singapore? I'm assuming different banks got different exchange rates and have different rebates/benefits.

Which of the following cards are good for paying hotel, phone, internet, food, shopping, etc :-
Alliance platinum
Standard Chartered infinite
UOB platinum - rebates still applicable overseas?
HSBC visa signature - overseas got 5 points per ringgit = 2%?
OCBC titanium - rebates still applicable overseas?

For now UOB Platinum earns 5X UniRinggit in Singapore.

Click here to read my article on Overseas Transactions. I have a table showing transactions in SG.

Since it it not often you book hotel online, I would say go for a card that gives you free annual fee.

If you are booking hotels overseas, MBB cards are good since the conversion rate is the lowest. But MBB cards, minimum income requirement is RM30K p.a.
