Both of you are looking into entry level cards and just your luck that UOB just revamp their One Card where you can get 5% cash rebate for petrol and 2% for groceries i.e. TESCO, GIANT etc. Go to UOB Thread to read more or click below
Click here to read my article about Revamp UOB One Card - It's A Pure Cash Back Card July 2011.about However since both of you are new to credit card, you application may be rejected.
Franc, since you need at least RM5K credit limit. Bank Negara Ruling is that for people earning less than RM36K, they can only have credit cards issued by maximum two banks and the max credit limit is 2X your monthly salary per bank. So let's say if you monthly salary is RM2K, the maximum credit limit per bank is RM4K. So for your case you may need two cards. If you earn RM30K, get Maybankard 2 Cards on top of UOB One Card.
However, since you travel a lot, you have other options -
1. apply for American Express Charge Card where there is no fix credit limit but depending on your usage.
2. get a debit card, where at least you can withdraw cash for emergency while overseas and not subjected to interest charges.
