Funny, the live view problem doesn't happen at all in my entry level DSLR.  hmm.gif

Sure? The mirror flip will cause the black-out, I thought it's common? I remember I tested before D3000 and D5000, they do have these issues, so does 550D. It should be the same as it's the way DSLR works.

Andy214, Agito666, mind if I give opinions and facts on Sony? The SLT is more on high speed AF in video, more on that later. Normal Sony live view since its 1st LV enabled DSLR (A300) is already using the quicker phase detect AF as opposed to canon and nikon's contrast detect AF in live view, thats why you will feel that LV in your camera is slower than when using OVF. Sony uses a separate secondary sensor to feed the live image to the LCD while maintaining the light path to the PDAF sensor - as opposed to using the main sensor in your unit.

As for dSLT, because there is no mirror in the path (only a transparent piece of glass that splits 30% of light to the PDAF sensor) the video now enjoys full time PDAF as well making it blistering quick. The downside now is that it is TOO quick, making any abrupt shift of focal plane looks very sudden. Good for quick action movements and fast paced tracking. But looks totally weird in slow moving scenes. The other 'concerned' downside is that the 30% loss of light will be equivalent to about 1/3 stop, which I think is still very reasonable.
*
Thanks for sharing; Yea, I read about it, and saw video comparisons/review before on dSLT on video AF, which is already available since quite some time ago, and it's working very well too. The downside for dSLT I think mainly non Optical ViewFinder, have to make do with EVF, but the recent OLED EVF looks promising and heard many good reviews around, also one video review shows it live in action taking burst rate mode.

Btw, seems A77 is leaked around tongue.gif My friend met one guy using A77, and he go talk to the guy, turns out the guy is from Sony. He played with it roughly, he said it's quite heavy.

Those are DSLR right?

dSLT will be different as the mirror doesn't move.

currently thinking to get a potrait lens.

85mm or 50mm? i can afford a f1.4. means no doubt go for f1.4 instead of f1.8 right?

been reading reviews about these, 85mm and 50mm f1.4, the only difference is the distance to shot?

need sifus advise, thx! rclxms.gif

Focusing is horrible on that body unfortunately, which is why the D3 triumph over it with the stellar AF performance under low light for sports.

okay, boss
how about when you put your DSLR on floor? low until cant lying on floor that one.... XD
then had to rely on Live view right? or when not enough tall, you had to rely on Live view also right?  unsure.gif
that's why i ask that XDDD

I will just set to area mode AF, and then grab a few shots without looking at the viewfinder.

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 13 2011, 04:30 PM)
1DMKIII is plagued with AF problems. It seems 1DMKIV also inherits the some of 1DMKIII's AF problems.

Anyway, it's all nice having 39 crossed type AF points but many fail to read the fine prints. The 1DMKIV will only have 39 high precision cross type AF (horizontal and vertical) points when a lens with a max aperture of f/2.8 or more is used or when combined with an extender. The cross type sensors vertical line sensitivity is approx two times more than the horizontal line sensitivity.

However, when using f/4 lens itself like the 600mm f/4 or by using a f/2.8 lens with a 1.4x extender, then only the centre AF point is usable as a cross type with the other 44 will only remain as non-crossed type (horizontal sensitive) only.

Using a f/5.6 lens or by using a f/4 lens with a 1.4x extender, all the AF points are horizontal sensitive and using a f/8 lens, only the centre AF can be used as a non-crossed AF while other are unusable.
I mentioned before that I don't use Live View but there were actually times when I remember that I did use it.  biggrin.gif Not to replace the viewfinder to shoot but to use it to check WB. Switch on Live View and adjust / tweak WB on the fly and watch it on the LCD screen before you take a shot.

I wanted to explain this earlier but too busy with work. Well, would say most consumers don't go in detail. Good example is the A77's 24MP 12fps tongue.gif, when one goes into the details... it isn't as impressive.

If your budget is sufficient for a 85mm f/1.4, that is definitely better than the 50mm f/1.4 ;-). Better in all aspects, except the pricing? But you do need to know your style, 50mm or 85mm?

For me I like 85mm on FF, but 85mm is a little too tele for me on DX.

i am on DX. so 50mm means around 80mm, while 85mm is 136mm right?

for half body portrait, 50mm lens should be better right?

guess i'll just search for a 50mm f1.4 for a try. thx

Before arrival of the D3 by Nikon, 90% are the white super telelens. Now? Try looking around and you'll notice smile.gif If you can find images of the photogs from Beijing 2008, even better. Time has changed.

Busy background. If you want to do the love shape bokeh, try a night shoot with small lights behind smile.gif especially if it is colorful!

hi guys.......looks like I've gotta problem.

D7000 + 18-200mm VR 1st gen.

ok so what happend is this. last used them during Cheer 2011. took bout 2 to 3k shots. no problem. came back, keep in drybox at 44%. (focus might be at between 3 to 1)

today, took it out. try to AF, focus only moves from infinity to between 3 to 1 and after that can hear the motor go bzzzzzzzzz. tried turning focus ring also stuck at between 3 to 1. after a few times, now it turns from infinity to 0.5. (maybe grease hardened coz too long didnt use?)

but anyway, it still doesnt sound as smooth and fast as usual. (can I send back to nikon for service + greasing?)

now another prob. VR doesnt seem to be working. when I switch on the camera, it goes "tak tak tak". After that I tried leaving VR ON at the lens, when I half-press the shutter, usually there'll be a click and then u get the high pitched sound.

Now what happens is, I hear "tak tak tak" and then the high pitch sound. From the viewfinder, I can see the whole thing shift "down down down". Same time with the tak tak tak sound. Any ideas?? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif cry.gif

Thanks in advanced for all your suggestions and wise words from experience. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi there, im also deciding which prime lens to go for and yeah i chose 50mm. Btw be4 u getting the f1.4G u might wanna have a look at this video and the photo comparison.

Apparently the 1st link claim that the f1.8G focus twice faster than the f1.4G,
while DigitalRev review claim there is not much different in general but slightly sharper in f1.4G if i still remember haha!
