IMHO, it's not only Toyota, but also Honda, Nissan, KIA, Merc, BMW, VW, etc.
And, don't forget even our national car is the same.

Because sea don't have 4 seasons, only summer all year long, so they will surely take out all those ESP, vsc, vdc...., just one thing I can't understand is why they take out the side curtain airbag and at the same time increase the price to sky high? This decision is solely umw one or Toyota? Maybe Toyota trying to push their profit higher due to the last year profit cannot meet the target?

SEA don't have 4 season i agree. But the rainfall in SEA is high at all year long. Old gen camry got VSC and TRC but new gen removed but without adding other active safety feature. Its normal those buying new camry are aka BTC (Bo tat Chek) uncle auntie. However, new generation ppl would probably think twice before buying this new camry especially 2.5V with this price and spec. From my point of view, no offense! A young man who buying a new camry 2.5V version in Malaysia is either he is a BTC ppl or just want to let uncle and auntie know he is a big fish. hahahah..... My 9 cent

The Camry sold throughout SEA are all of the same spec with no TRC or VSC. Even if it's summer all year long in Malaysia, there are still certain months of heavy rain which makes these features critical. The hybrid versions (not sold here) are a different story, those are fully loaded with all the nice gadgets and safety features.

It's Toyota for sure coz UMW only distributes for Malaysia, they are not involved in the other parts of Asia. But I think their strategy is to push consumers towards the hybrid initiative coz the hybrid version sold in other parts of Asia are definitely more loaded with goodies compared to the petrol variant.

hmm.gif

engineering flaw?

As I see on Toyota website, Camry said offer Traction control but not VSC.
Guess they thought TC is good enough? I can't answer you cause I'm not Toyota Camry Chief Engineer.

Guess might be next Batch Camry might offer due to alot feedback.

Huh? VW spec here is higher than in Germany. You can get the same there too, but you will have to top up. 20k car becomes 35k car there. Here it is sold for 40k. What you can't get here is the 20k spec for 25k...

Next batch Camry could be good when many cancel their booking and sales goes down. After all they can easily offer a better Camry, but they think.they can make more profit if they don't.

What has 4 seasons gotta do with Stability Control? Stability Control systems are practically emergency avoidance systems which help enable the driver to regain control of the vehicle after making a drastic / extreme maneuver to avoid an obstacle regardless of weather conditions.

I just visited the Toyota roadshow at 1 Utama and most of the interest is in the Toyota86 while i didnt see any serious enquiries bout the Camry. Most of the ppl there were just sitting inside, opening & closing doors and then walking away again. I think more and more ppl are coming to realise that this Camry is just a rip off. But there will always be those ignorant ppl who will still buy the Camry for the badge.

This time i sat in the 2.5V model and it was pathetic. Really cheapo looking & feeling dashboard and side door panels. Even the entertainment unit looks like it came out of some back end China product. All around i see that Toyota really cut sooo many corners to maximise profits for this Camry possibly to make up for their losses last year. Im really disappointed that a premier car manufacturer like Toyota can actually resort to such crap tactics to cheat customers into buying the Camry.

To all those who bought the new Camry, i must say that i really pity you guys. Slam me all you want but i feel it was a very poor financial decision on your part. Spending between 150-181K on a car like this is bullocks. Im saying this as a ex Toyota owner for 9 years. I only hope that in future, Toyota will never do this again. But then again, to actually prevent this from happening again, the buying has to stop.

Yes, there is a lot of cost cutting on a lot of minor things. One of the first things I've noticed is the lack of the plastic engine cover for the 2.0g version. But interior quality is subjective, aside from the cheap faux wood panels, I think the quality of plastics and finishing is still better than the Korean offerings. But you are definitely spot on right about the GPS DVD navi HU, it looks no different from what you can get on the streets.

Touch the door panels on the Camry and then do the same with the Optima. They are different. The ones on the K5 are a soft material not 100% plastic like the Camry.

Both also feels hard actually with very little of that soft touch material padding but knocking the door panels, I definitely feel that the k5 sounded more hollow compared to the Camry in this respect

Go check it out again. The whole top part and inside of the Optima door panel is of the soft material. Trust me bro, i tested the car 9 times in addition to countless visits to showrooms in between.

Whats the point of having non hollow doors but still cant match the Optima in terms of safety? Even the US version Camry didnt do as well as the Optima in the NHTSA ratings. rclxub.gif

Regardless, the Camry is still the no.1 bestselling car in the US

http://www.nada.org/NR/rdonlyres/3115B411-...Sales_Recap.pdf

US consumers are definitely more picky when it comes to buying a car, surely the car still has to be very good in all aspects to achieve that position and the Camry is in the lead by a big margin. Despite the fact that Camry still can't match the Optima in the NHTSA ratings in the US, it is still the king in the D-segment mainstream consumer market.

But I definitely agree with you, the Camry sold here is definitely the least safe D-segment car on the road right now.
