There are exceptions to every rule. If yoire a genetically predisposed hyper responder like one of my past patients, then you're in.for a world of hurt. That's why its always important to get routine bloodwork done.

i'm in a world of hurt. combined cholesterol level is at 7.1 now. 2 years ago was 7.7, went down to 6.8 last year, shot up to 7.1 the last i checked about 2 months ago. i'm always active in sports, namely tennis and basketball and i've been putting extra effort in controlling my diet since my last check up. hopefully it'll go down to normal soon... sad.gif

+1 , there's a research being done somewhere last time, i read it before that athlete who took 4 whole eggs doesn have any significant elevated cholesterol serum lvl. or more canc it say it doesn not change much on cholesterol lvl

usually the cholesterol problem is due to the own synthesize of cholesterol in the body, it cna be reduced by taking fibres which binds to the bile, examples oats. (sorry, forgotten insoluble or soluble fibre already. getting old here )

fish oil helps in reducing cholesterol lvl, so it is possible due to omega 3 .

Do not be afraid of fat. Even saturated fat has its place in our diet. Blood cholesterol level is a marker of what is going on inside our body, but they are not the culprits. Internal body inflammation will push body to produce more cholesterol to repair systemic inflammation, hence you will see higher cholesterol in your blood work. I take lots of eggs, animal fats, fats from fish, but limit my carb intake to veges and it doesnt elevate cholesterol. Carbs like oats, bread etc and too much omega 6 (compared to omega 3) in your body will elevate cholesterol due to higher systemic inflammation.

Reducing carbs and increasing fat also helps body to learn to use fat as energy source. There is a reason why body store excess energy as fat (not carbs - carbs are converted to fat). I find eating this way work well for me and I never really need to do cardio or cutting routine like I used to, just to stay lean. Try it out and see and if you need more info, try googling Primal / Paleo diet.

No, I'm on Primal / Paleo diet. Basically I eat animals and plants mostly real food. I try and avoid post agriculture age stuff like wheat, vegetable oil, processed meats etc. Basically I eat like a caveman biggrin.gif If I am trying to gain some muscle mass like now, I do insert some carbs in my meals after workout, but I take mostly sweet potato, yams (root vegetables) or occasional rice & fruits. Very similar to Atkins, but Atkins doesnt rule out processed grains and carbs, and focused mostly on low carb in general. I do take carbs but about 50-150g a day depending on my training goals. Anything below 50g you will go into ketosis no necessarily bad but not something I want to do.

Since we're on the topic of dieting, I'll just pitch in and say the Anabolic Diet worked pretty well for me. I did a little bit of a cut for 1-2 months at the beginning of the year. It was after my 8/9 month layoff from training and obviously I had gained some fat. Managed to lose quite a bit off the waist whilst maintaining muscle.

What is Anabolic Diet? Care to explain?

What I realized is that calorie doesnt really mean much. A few years back, in a rush to get in shape for Phuket, I actually made a plan to bulk and cut in 4-5 months to look great biggrin.gif I did well but it was a pain trying to monitor all my calorie intact and worrying about loss of muscle during cutting phase etc. Work my hind off on cardio/HIIT trying to get the last 2 pack to show in lower abdomen LOL.

Now whatever I am doing is more relaxed and I could get away with minimum work even in the gym. I only go 3 times a week for about 45-60 mins each time. I dont do cardio, I eat what I want within my diet of course but eating this way its easy to stay in shape. I rarely do direct abs work and choose mainly to focus on Big 3 with a few others thrown ins. If I want to go to the beach, insert some Intermittent Fasting and will get you there in 2 weeks. Someone posted above, IF does work and he has posted the link (Martin Berkhan) as well. I personally follow a different variation of diet but the principles are the same.

Dammit. Strained a pec tendon on Saturday when doing weighted dips. Hurts when I inhale fully or move in certain ways. Anyone had this before? :/

Guys I have a question..I was doing shrugs just now and my right pinky finger just gave way..it literally went numb and I couldn't balance the dumbbell at all..I am going to see a doctor to determine whether is it a nerve problem but if it's not then would straps help with my grip problem?
