Well im not sure about you, but i think the stock rims are ok. NOt the best for sure but still ok. Makes the car stand out more. But i think putting black rims such as the pics above totally removes the whole wow factor of the K5. Makes the car look like some typical ah beng car. I really hope none of you here do that to your K5. That would be really sad. But thats just my opinion.
*
i guess it depends on personal taste then biggrin.gif pretty much all white M5's have black rims and black on white is pretty typical in the modding scene for the purpose of contrast rclxms.gif

Luckily i was turned off by VW's interior. The TSI engines and the performance figures were what attracted me last time.

Is it a common problem or is it only the older TSI engines?

so far i know passat cc ok no problem... my neighbour driving more than 2 yrs no kacau
they say due to polo/golf using dry clutch and passat cc using wet clutch...im not technical ppl so keno comment so much lo

RON95 or 97? Why so low? Stuck in jam very often? Alot of braking?
mostly city drive, so u can imagine la...anyway, i think is my driving style, here are my previous ride FC for comparison (with normal city drive),
Honda City IDSI - 10-11km per liter (my wife can get 13-14km)
Nissan Latio Sport - 9-10km per liter
Optima K5 - 8-9km per liter with eco mode on all the time

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Apr 5 2012, 07:53 AM)
Guys,
The Optima is a heavy car. Its heavier than most of the d segment Japs out there. So higher fc is to be expected in city driving.

My fc is around 750km.. To Penang last week and some town driving also. Maybe 70/30. It was before my 1st service so go around 100km/hr only. My SA advice me not to drive above 110km/hr before first service. Let the car run-in first.

It's a good thing k5 comes with auto cruise. Most of the time on highway I don't notice my speed is above 120 cause it is very stable. brows.gif

My service mechanic told me he even reach 200km/hr in a test drive car.. shocking.gif ... And said it is very stable. I dare not try la. Scared Kenya saman... whistling.gif

Now I m in Kuantan. Pump full tank then drive here. Use only 3 bar of petrol only. Will check again when I drive back.

Most of my friends that saw my car fist time says its a Lexus .. brows.gif

So far I am enjoying my ride veri veri much... rclxms.gif

My 2003 Vios can still hit 190kmph but not advisable la since its only 940kg. So Optima hitting 200kmph is surely very much possible and its surely more stable since its got 500kg more body weight.

FC for the first half of the fuel tank will usually be much lower compared to the 2nd half of the tank due to the following reasons:

1) The fuel sensor isnt actually located at the maximum height of the tank.
2) Loss of fuel through internal evaporation is slightly higher when the tank is half empty

Thats why ull see when u fill up your tank to its absolute maksimum, it takes a long time (approx 120km) for my Vios for the 1st digital bar to disappear. But then the subsequent bars disappear much faster with the fastest being the last 2 bars.

My 2003 Vios 1.5E consumes about 13km/L in 100% city driving and 15km/L for 100% highway driving around 120kmph. But thats due to its higher power to weight ratio and lighter body.

(Btw Vios full tank is 42L according to the car specs)

Clutch is one thing. Turbo is another thing. It's quite possible that many of those who face problems are those who went for chip tuning. When overboosting above stock, a lot of things can go wrong. Not forgetting that in the 1.4 TSI engines there's also a supercharger to worry about. Regarding the dry clutch of the 7-sp DSG I read that most problems are associated with the mechatronic module and not a problem with the clutch itself. It's hard to get more info about this unless you're in the inner circle of any VW car clubs; I can't seem to find much info online and certainly not from any VW SAs lol...

The CC on the other hand, uses the same engine and tranny as the Golf GTI which is a refined version of the drivetrain that has been in use in the Golf MkV and Passat B6 since 2005 so I suppose it's a more matured design while the engine and tranny in the 1.4 TSI only came on the scene in 2009. The irony is this: Despite winning awards for best engine etc, VW has said that they will no longer develop another twin charged engine and instead focus on turbodiesel and refining their single charged petrol engines. Go figure.

I think K5 goes really really well with 9-spoke concave rims like the following concept drawing:

However, the closest design i could find is this:

20inch some more.

However, if you put it on, you may get this:

And for those who owns white K5, this one looks pretty neat:

Wow. Drooling. Very nice but changing to anything above 18" will force us to use even lower profile tyre. IMO, anything below 40/45 series will be too hard for my preference. But good to see such a nice mod smile.gif

Dont go for smaller rim. Will looks like a Sonata if you do that. Haha.

I saw few 6.9kg Enkei rim (our one around 11kg) but design not that nice. The one that attracted me around 10.2kg. No different from our stock

The "LOAD" button is like that one. Never meant to be 'press'. Touch mode only. I also thought that it is stuck during my first run.

Read your manual Chapter 4 Page 130 for more info. Got alot of safety features in place.

When got nothing concrete to say, you accuse us for lying. You think that we will lied in a public forum. So that people will buy Optima? LOL

Since you are so knowledgeable in rides, please come to our TT this weekend. Come and share your knowledge. Teach me how to track my FC and so on. Of course, I will pay for all expenses incurred for your special appearance and sharing. Oh ya, also bring your expensive ride. I eagerly to learn from you in term of car knowledge. If you are coming, pls let me know and send me your acc number. I will make a transfer. Thanks ya, sifu.

Normally city ride hard to save FC due to jam and alot of braking. I think that this applicable to all cars. I personally think that my FC is only slightly higher than my altis. Mostly due to higher CC and weight.

Will further observe after my first service.

Bro, once you're in D-segment territory you will never enjoy the same kind of FC, but OTOH you will realize that any car needs to weigh above 1.3tonnes to be stable at speed and retain composure over uneven roads. Just like Contis, they handle better than Japs because most of them are heavyweights. 1.3-1.7 tonnes seems to the sweet spot.

Guys, for the sake of our discussion on FC, can we all just use km/L instead of L/100km or $$? Will make it much easier to compare data. Even im getting confused with all these variations. rclxub.gif

So, how about stating something like this:

9km/L (70% highway 30% City)

Btw, fuel consumption is not an issue for me due to the Shell card but still its good info to share.

the only thing ugly about k5 is the original rims but well, people may like it smile.gif
anyway just another thought, wouldn't downgrading the original 18 to 17 inch save you some FC?
*
Hmm, actually the offset is out by a lot. May affect warranty. Not to mention scrubbing the fenders when the car is near bottoming out.

Better yet, stick to l/100km as this is the most common denominator that you can find on almost all car specs even here in Malaysia.

Even during high revs the 2.0L struggles to pull the heavier Optima compared to the Forte. In the Forte when the rpm revs past 4K rpm esp in 2nd gear you'll feel your kidneys being pushed into the seat whereas the Optima is more gentle.

And you can't change gear whenever you want with the paddle shifters... if your speed is too low the gearbox would not allow upshifts to prevent losing torque.
*
Thanks for your comments bro ! biggrin.gif I was using wrong word maybe? The "Whenever" doesn't mean we can shift gear any time but with common knowledge of changing gear. Of course you can't upshifts when the rev is too low ! hahaha... same thing, you can't simply downshifts your gear when you are in high speed.

I believe everyone should understand when is the timing to upshifts or downshifts the gear right? Sorry, i thought everyone will know that because i drive a manual car more than 10 years. My hand and leg will move automatically whenever i want to change gear... same to paddle shifter sad.gif

Passat and 508 use finger brake some more....very nice...any disadvantage of it?
