Plus, now xpax doing promo buy RM7/week for 20GB data to stream youtube. Internet price getting cheaper day by day.

It's not that they can't afford North East Asian content...
They can afford for it, but it will be a few years old content or many months old (usually at least 6 months old) content, after their respective country's TV broadcast premiere.
I guess is Media Prima trying to offer some new type of content to viewers, so that's how they chose to air some Thai dramas with Mandarin audio dub on 8TV.

Do you think Media Prima is wise in trying to provide something new to Malaysians, which is Thai dramas?

Well if u see in astro too.. The content is few months old or already ceased in the original country broadcast...

I'm guessing the reason of broadcasting Thai dramas is because of Regional JV agreement.. Malaysia content in Thailand & others ASEAN countries.. Theirs in ours country.. Win win situation 😊

When you look at 8tv, the Korea dramas they are showing are relatively new for a free to air company

Thai Dramas on 8TV? Already been there for a few months.
However, some HK TVB dramas are still shown on 4:3 format even at this point (Only for dramas aired on NTV7, those aired on 8TV already make the switch to 16:9) (for those broadcasted in HK on 2015) although Media Prima has switched to 16:9 ratio in August 2017, which is quite weird.
In addition, they did not upgrade their presentation (like ident, parental guidence notification, sometimes even promos) and some own produced live programmes into 16:9/HD. NTV7 news also does not switch to 16:9. Plus, some SD picture quality content shows like a crap ever since they crap their picture into unwatchable 144p/240p and then recovered to normal quality last few months.

Just noticed that 8TV now put title beside the logo like what TV3 and TV9 did since Thursday.
