Media Prima channels already have their EPG added. However the timing is not correct (EPG list the scheduled programmes 3 hours later).

TV9/NTV7 is now sending their digital on screen graphics in a proper 16:9 format.
However Media Prima is again testing substandard picture quality for TV9/NTV7, visible even on an analog source.
(NOTE: The testcard is different from the usual testcard they send for NTV7 for today)
Captured from tonton online streaming.

NTV7 Subtitles/programme promo inside a programme is aired in proper 16:9 (captured yesterday)
However I really hate any stretching of 4:3 content to 16:9 (fake widescreen) , which what I hate. Also, some 16:9 programming is still broadcast in letterbox (produced in 16:9 but transmitted with black bars above and below). Hope that they will fix that soon. That programming I captured (TVB drama) actually has a 16:9 version and is produced in HD, but Media Prima choose to acquire in older 4:3 format which they are still doing as on now.

While 8TV is now sending their DOG in widescreen too, joining NTV7/TV9. (all of these are still in 4:3 yesterday)
At the same time the PQ for 8TV becomes poor. (NTV7/TV9 picture quality is still poor, maybe Media Prima are still testing.)
All of these are captured via Tonton live streaming.

By the way, current 10pm TV dramas in NTV7 and 8TV use quite good bitrate, not bad at all for SD channels. Media Prima is rather inconsistent, always testing different bitrate. Hope its current bitrate for SD can persist.

Yup, I agree. Media Prima is very inconsistent for picture quality. Sometime it is better but sometimes it is worse like s**t. Really hope that they can keep the current picture quality.

Just to add that TV3 has their on screen graphics broadcasted in proper 16:9. With such moves, all Media Prima channels have their playout system transformed into widescreen. All channels are now having some inconsistent picture quality issue, visible even on an analog source. (They are presumably still testing)
However, I am wondering why they are still transmitting live inhouse programming in a 4:3 format although transformed into widescreen. (I presume that they already have HD cameras internally for a long time which record in 16:9 but transmitting in 4:3 safe since there are video examples from 8TV News uploaded into Widescreen format.)
One more thing is hope that MYTV/myFreeview can remove and retire that disgusting and useless "Siaran Digital myFreeview" shit watermark completely from all myFreeview channels. It really hampers any TV viewing as it can be clearly seen all the time and very pointless since those using it knows they are getting the TV signal from "Siaran Digital myFreeview".
Captured via Tonton live streaming and rescaled into 16:9.

UPDATE : It is known that news programming on Media Prima channels is now broadcasting in 16:9 format for the first time on television. On another picture it shows the 4:3 safe zone within the 16:9 picture. It might phase in into other live/own programming produced in 4:3 very soon.

Has been like that since Sunday. At that time the EPG has ridiculously wrong information. (Such as stating Wanita Hari Ini/Malaysia Hari Ini aired on a Sunday but in fact the EPG information was wrong)

And I think they are too lazy to even make an update for the EPG guide of their channels.

Full upgrades of news graphics has been done for TV3, TV9 and 8TV since yesterday.
Before that, graphics is transmitted in 16:9 but with a 4:3 safe as they was still transmitting in 4:3 in the past until quite recent update that changes graphics entirely. I do post one in the past but at that time they are doing some tests on widescreen.

And that for SD streaming?

Hmmm........got a feeling media prima gonna broadcast at 720p/1080i with 4096kbps or 5120kbps later on both OTA and Online platform...... hmm.gif

Based on media prima bitrate pattern since measat satellite launch....TV3 is broadcasted around 5000kbps using MPEG2 and MPEG2audio.........
*
I guess it is in SD only. Tested some HD stream via tonton (Sukan SEA) and it has 2 bitrate option : 9xx kbps and 14xx kbps.

Some 4000-5000kbps is quite likely for DTT HD transmission but unlikely on online/Tonton consider our poor quality internet. FYI the max bitrate for tonton video streaming is around 23xx kbps.

noticed this in hypptv transmission for buletin 1.30 just now.

The actual transmission is currently SD 16:9 right? i mean for all media prima channels, at all times? No more 4:3?
*
Has been 16:9 since last few weeks. News for TV3/8TV/TV9 only officially switched into 16:9 yesterday.

I found out that myFreeview channels are now using HE-AAC Version 2 audio codec. And the bitrate? It's only 32kbps.

If you know, HE-AAC codec is meant for providing good quality audio at very low bitrate. With this latest version 2 of HE-AAC, it is better than the first version of HE-AAC.

I remember few months ago, they use AAC LC codec at 128kbps. But now, it seems that they've changed to HE-AAC Version 2.
*
Although HE-AAC V2 can provide good quality audio, however 32kbps (Joint stereo) on myFreeview is a shocking low. Better they choose to use 56kbps HE-AAC V2 stereo. But since some broadcasters (especially Media Prima) want to save bandwidth, it is inevitable.

MP has too much to pay already, pay astro, pay hypptv, now pay this Myfreeview laugh.gif
*
They need to pay a estimate of RM 40 million/year (based on their transmission fees for 2014/2015) for 4 SDTV quality channels (TV3/NTV7/8TV/TV9, might be transmitted in poor quality) + 4 radio stations (maybe they choose not to carry these since extra services mean extra bandwidth and extra fee, however since the audio is in HE-AAC V2 32kbps, they might choose to carry it) for nationwide broadcasting carriage via myFreeview. Also heard that they can't charge more than what TM charges for Media Prima for analouge transmission. But since it is very insane to broadcast TV in SD quality in 2017 they might actually choose to broadcast in HDTV (which has higher carriage fees, however this is in doubt for Media Prima since they don't want to pay high transmission fees).

Media Prima can sometimes mess up actual 16:9 broadcast into pillarbox. (or mess up recently make programming into letterbox)
Had been seen a few times on NTV7 during "If You Are the One" (非誠勿擾) programming.
Such pillarbox must/should be done on ALL times by ALL broadcasters using 16:9 transmission during ALL 4:3 programming.
Captured via tonton live streaming.

just got to know about this dvb-t/t2 thingy today. just wondering do i just hook the tv (dvb-t/t2 ready) to the antenna port (new condo) and start scanning? not quite sure how these things work.
*
Since you state that your condo is new and your TV is DVB-T2 ready, you may try to hook your TV to the antenna port and start scanning using auto scan (NOTE: Your condo's MATV system must support one of myFreeview's frequencies in order to receive DTT, depending to location it is either one from the range of UHF 45/46/47/30/36)
But if it is not successful, try using an indoor antenna, hook up the indoor antenna and scan using auto scan. If signal reception is not possible, try relocate your antenna into another position and rescan your TV.

As the bandwidth is sufficient for now even with just 1 multiplex, It can be possible for RTM to switch both TV1/TV2 into HD anytime if MYTV stop transmitting 2 test channels and use good encoders. Somehow even the parliament channel can be even squeezed into that MUX1 (if MYTV/RTM plan to transmitting it). If they did not switch it it might be "some technical issues".

Right now is, all MP channels are still transmitting in 4:3 video.

However, any on-screen elements such as subtitle, channel logo, programme title display on top left corner, are all in 16:9 format.

But, 16:9 programme content would be displayed as either 16:9 fit to screen or 16:9 with letterbox.
If they suka suka want letterbox on 16:9 content, then it will show letterbox. If don't want letterbox on 16:9, then just fit to screen. That's why, this Media Prima ah... No consistency on aspect ratio display mode format one.... Sometimes I get fed up on that. Since Media Prima started with 16:9, just 16:9 all the way lah... Letterbox somemore for what? Aiyo.. mad.gif

The 2 picture you attached, shows that Media Prima added the stupid letterbox on the 16:9 programme.
*
Not suprising as Media Prima always mess up programmes in letterbox/pillarbox. Sometimes, live programming like Malaysia Hari Ini can even show up as 4:3 although they had switched their playout to 16:9 weeks ago. I am doubting why such mess can happens all the time.

More than 90% population coverage in Malaysia is in doubt. However, it is true that MYTV/myFreeview has more than 90% population coverage in Peninsular Malaysia.

I suspect that poor quality on Media Prima channels might be due to some interlacing issues. They might send channels in 720p or 1080p (which is flagged correctly when on transmission) but when on transmission (which the signal is downconverted into 576i), such interlacing effects will appear. Since the picture quality when they broadcast 16:9/HD TV content is good, I suspect the artifacts was generated on transmission.

While it is now October 2017, no news for RTM channels in HD.
