from what i've read, u need to reallign the dish so that it can received other free sat channel..let say you change the orientation of your Astro dish, you maybe can received other free sat channel, but your Astro feed might be lost until you re-adjust to its correct position..but if there is another sat that allign/cover area same like Astro, then you can get other sat channel+ Astro channel..

correct me if im wrong..

the key is astro dish is the only legal dish that can be installed visible, of course we are not going to use astro anymore.

from my understand, some decoder can works with a dish motorised,
it's very common in europe, so you select channel then it turn the dish to the right direction

Actually, we can receive the signal in Malaysia too.

But, badly because our gomen make it illegal law to use in Malaysia except Sarawak. Because to protect Astro(more GST money).. brows.gif
Not to say because Sarawak has many voters for them.. sad.gif

How you connect those dish with single decoder?

Motorised is the only easy and cheap way for home user.

motorize is expensive.. need to buy motor, need to allocate space, maintenance etc.
just use disec to do selection of sat. go get a dvbs2 to play.

If use DiSEqC to connect multiple satellite dishes into single receiver, this could mean: more satellite dishes = requires more space and cable.
DiSEqC equipment is cheap to buy, but when you buy multiple satellite dishes (especially parabolic dishes), the total cost may be almost same as you use motorised. And, signal strength will reduce a little bit if use DiSEqC, around 5-10% like that, depending on the quality of the DiSEqC.

If use motorised, basically requires a single satellite dish to get signals from any satellite you want. Save space, less cables. You can use C/Ku band LNB (2 in 1) to get both C band and Ku band signals from the same dish, but you got to use both DiSEqC and motorised at the same time if you want this kind of setup.

The obvious disadvantage for motorised dish is, whenever you want to watch channels from other satellite, you need to wait for few seconds (not more than 1 minute, e.g. from West to East) while the dish is re-positioning, depending on how far is the orbital satellite position from and to the position you want to receive. If DiSEqC, basically no need to wait.

In simple words, if you wish to receive signals from any satellites that you want (from West to East longitude), use motorised. If just 1-2 satellites (or not more than 4) and you plan to stick with the same satellites at almost all times, DiSEqC should be fine. It really depends on your needs, installation setup, the space for you to install your dishes, and cost.

in many case, just use one dish and multi LNB, then switch different LNB only.

i wonder if this is possible with dvbt. example, switching between singapore and malaysia stations

Gunung Ledang DTT transmitter is down - folks in Melaka may have to realign their antennas to point towards Bukit Tampin (if they were aligned towards Ledang before), while some folks in North Johore may find their screens blank - they can try realigning but may find the signal strength is lower as they are receiving from farther away.

Bukit Larut transmitter is also now on - folks in Northern Perak may now tune to MyTV over 666MHz (Channel 45)

One dish with multi LNB also can, but this method still requires DiSEqC if you connect to one receiver. And only possible to receive signals from different satellites from the neighbouring orbital position based on your dish elevation.

As for terrestrial digital TV channels, as long you receive the signal near JB area (Singapore border), you can get both Malaysia and Singapore stations with the same antenna.
If you receive at Central or Northern Johor, you might need an outdoor antenna and put it really high up (example like what you see in Muar area), and perhaps signal booster is required.

many many years ago, tv transmitters are not centralized in kl tower. need different location. have to use a switch for different channel
