QUOTE(9M-MAS @ May 31 2016, 06:46 AM) It has both. Samart Strong White is good, but oneboxhome (the digital by dr Pu model) may be better for beginners. Any list of recommendations for decoder and their function? Have an old TV without digital tuning, Antenna I can reuse back existing one. btw, any news if they are going to give free decoder once this is launch? |

QUOTE(9M-MAS @ Jul 19 2016, 04:44 PM) There is considerable confusion regarding this. It all boils down to whether MYTV will be implementing conditional access (CA) / encryption or not. Some people have reported being told by MYTV staff that CA will be implemented, which will definitely render 3rd party DVB-T2 decoders useless, and some IDTVs (to be overcome by some update from TV manufacturer). However some sources close to the project, while confirming encryption is initially in the cards, have told that the plan has been cancelled. I imagine it has to do with expensive encryption royalty fee They better not. what is the use of paying expensive encryption for this few channels? unless they are on par with Astro or other paid tv overseas. |

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Oct 6 2016, 01:42 AM) Both. If they encrypt, there are always people who will decrypt it. It's just a matter of time. MYTV can't always spend on encryption upgrade because they are not commercial like Astro. And after all RTM is not that exclusive to watch, so many won't even care if they cannot watch RTM.MYTV will build the tower and broadcast antenna etc (Or rent from existing towers's owners) MYTV is given the exclusive right to sell those DVB-T2 decoders for few years ( can't remember how long ) after official launch. Better buy those China decoders as soon as possible. MYTV probably will enforce their 'exclusivity' soon. Crony company --->probably will ask Custom department or postal company to confiscate the stuff soon. Heck, if MYTV feels like it, the company can even enforce broadcast encryption that can only be decoded by their 'exclusive' (cheap product sold at max price) decoder with smart card. |

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Oct 6 2016, 02:18 PM) I agree...especially in era of IPTV, but what if MYTV goes crying to government and our dear government decided to help MYTV by demanding every ISPs implement quota? Then install njoi and use other decoder to watch FTA. More than enough if you do not demand certain channels.18km? For such distance, normally one only requires rabbit ears antenna. Yet, you said your analog channel are snowy even with booster. Hmm......I wonder if Ulu Kali digital transmitter down again? By the way, did you setup the bandwidth and frequency correctly? 8Mhz and DVB-T2? |

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Nov 21 2016, 03:17 PM) MYTV decoders likely to retail for less than RM350 MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd will soon be selling its set-top boxes for less than RM350 (net of Goods and Services Tax or GST) per unit, according to sources. “They [MYTV] are looking at an affordable price ... with the final price after GST to be in the RM300 range,” says a source familiar with the matter. “The set-top boxes are expected to be available to retail buyers by year end.” MYTV has started distributing the two million set-top boxes, or decoders it pledged to give free of charge to selected homes that fall under under the lower end of the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) scheme. It started distributing the subsidised decoders to households on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia last month. The initiative will end in mid 2018. “So far, MYTV has given out about 200,000 set-top boxes on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia as part of its trial phase. After that, they will be distributed in Sabah and Sarawak, followed by the northern region of the peninsula. Hopefully, it will go live by year end,” says a source. The MYTV launch was originally targeted for this month, but there has yet to be any news on it to date. Users of the MYTV set-top box will have access to nine channels — RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, 9TV, Alhijrah, Bernama News Channel and TVi. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is said to have approved 12 media companies for this venture so far, bringing the total number of channels to over 40. “They were approved a month ago and will need about six to 12 months to get ready to go on air. They need time to prepare things like scheduling, content and so on,” says the source. Media analysts see the potential price tag per MYTV set-top box as reasonable. “If it is true, the average price of the set-top box will come to about US$80 range per unit, which is reasonable. The margins won’t be much but that is in line with what government wants — for every household to be digitised. The cheap set-top box is good and they cannot expect to make money from that. The moneymaking element for them is in the transmission fees ... It needs to be a sustainable business at the end of the day,” says a media analyst at a local bank. “But it is the transmission fee that has been a point of contention between MYTV and the media groups ... It will be interesting to see if the fee will be revised,” he adds. MYTV had proposed a transmission fee of RM12 million for each standard definition (SD) channel and RM25 million for a high-definition (HD) channel once it reaches the key performance indicator of 98% of households. The Edge wrote at the end of August that the MYTV board was deliberating new charges following complaints from FTA broadcasters that they were too high. A source familiar with the matter, when contacted, says: “The board is still deciding ... but it is likely that the published rate will remain unchanged but can likely be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.” To read more, visit http://www.theedgemarkets.com/my/article/m...tail-less-rm350 Celaka, those media analysts really think MYTV branded set-top box at RM300-350 reasonable? China made decoder costs less than RM100!!! One can even buy set-top box at price of RM60. Next....guess media prima gonna close down their stations since MYTV refuses to budge on the digital transmission rate. EDIT: further reading at the article mentioned : Although the price is reasonable according to the analyst, he says the switch to digital may also push retail buyers to Astro’s Njoi product — a subscription-free satellite TV service. The recommended retail price for Njoi is RM285 for a refurbished decoder and RM350 for a new one. Njoi offers 29 TV channels and 20 radio channels and there is a RM100 installation charge. Cis, nak protek astro lah ni. |

QUOTE(Cruxs @ Nov 21 2016, 04:07 PM) Damn la. So long wait for DVBT. WHen they start HD broadcast officially other country already in 8K format. So slow. We need Tun M to boost like he did with broadband & MSC. And still other country like Korea beat us in broadband. We need 10 times that kind of boost perhaps. |

QUOTE(stephantsen @ Dec 13 2016, 11:24 AM) On top of that, after installing Njoi can change decoder and, you know, many more channels to come. QUOTE(9M-MAS @ Dec 13 2016, 11:27 AM) Kind of silly this, actually. This is what happens when you have monopoly. Thailand with its six DTT providers and basically free selection of decoders from all, the DTT scene is thriving. Dirt cheap certified decoders too (by NBCT, the Thai version of SKMM). Singapore with basically just one also does not enforce this kind of monopoly. Silly indeed. because some crony company can't survive without monopoly. This post has been edited by YoungMan: Dec 13 2016, 11:54 AM |

QUOTE(smileguy @ Dec 14 2016, 10:02 AM) Too risky on a bad day with lightning especially if u use outdoor UHF antenna and booster, the whole HTS can go lol of course. Lightning doesn't care whether you are using astro, mytv, satellite dish or anything. even household electrical stuff can get fried. I was just talking when it rains, or strong wind, astro cannot watch. QUOTE(joshhd @ Dec 14 2016, 12:20 PM) Analogue and Digital terrestrial TV (DTT) signals won't be affected by rain or strong winds as long the signal reception is adequate. So any measurement of how the signal will be adequate? like, if the whole city only has 1 transmission currently, will it be sufficient for all users? QUOTE(nexona88 @ Dec 14 2016, 12:48 PM) Well there's cases astro dish & decoder gone strike by lightning Yes it happen.. TV also sometimes gone. One reason I can think is the astro dish way too up in the house roof.. |

QUOTE(joshhd @ Feb 2 2017, 03:31 PM) Not to say "suppose" to end this year for Malaysia... I believe even end of 2018, not all areas in Malaysia, especially the rural area will have digital tv transmission. Therefore when they start to shut down analog signal, some areas might suffer for a while at least. If you say Singapore, then yes they indeed planning to shut off analogue TV signals earlier by end of this year 2017. For Malaysia, most likely will be end of 2018, which is the same as what all Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei agreed to shut off analogue TV signal in the year 2018. |

Any interesting channels to watch so far? I am not convince to buy the stb for digital tv if all I can see are those typical channels.
Unless staying near our neighbor country there is no way we can get their channels using this DT2 decoder. |

Any difference between the free decoder that will be distributed versus the one sold by MYTV?
