Hi all Sifus,

This is my first time going to Taiwan.  I will be going with another 3 of my friends from 15 - 22 Oct 2011. This round, I would like to visit Taipei, Ching Jing and Tarako. Please advise whether I can go to Tarako from Taichung. Please aslo give comments on my itinerary in  below. A million thanks in advance!

16 Oct 2011 Sun  0800 to 0900  Breakfast around TS Hotel Area.
0900 to 0930  Check out from TS Hotel and head to Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR)
0930 to 1030  Reach THSR - Tai Chung. Take cab to Tai Chung train station.
1030 to 1100  Keep our luggage in Tai Chung Train Station.
1100 to 1200  Head to Ching Jing Farm
1200 to 2200  Walk around Ching Jing Farm and stay at 觀星園景觀山莊
(How can I go to those tourist spot from here? Can advise where to go?)
Time above is a bit off. Check my blog for the timing. If you are lucky to board 11am bus to Puli, then you might be able to take an earlier bus to Cingjing from Puli. If the time is spot on, I think you should be arriving in Cingjing by 2pm instead of 12pm. Check with your minsu if they can provide the transportation to nearby tourist place for free or not

17 Oct 2011 Mon  0900 to 1000  Breakfast at 觀星園景觀山莊
Can I plan from here to Tarako / He Huan San and other nearby tourist spots?
Any difference from FengJia Night Market and Those Night Market in Taipei?
Where should I spend a night here? any recomendation?

Friend, Taroko and Taichung is like east and west side of Taiwan, it's impossible to be at the same place at the same day cos most of the time is spent on travelling. The most you can go is Hehuanshan, then you need to turn back to Cingjing and back to Puli, then to Taichung. If you cross over to Taroko, it will take you 4-5 hours just on the small and windy mountain road. I'd suggest skip taroko but include Hehuanshan. Fengjia Night Market if i'm not mistaken is the largest Night market in taiwan. A lot of nice food there. Don't miss it if you spend a night at Taichung.

Taipei itinerary should be ok. It's easier to move around Taipei and reschedule if there's something on. PM me if you need more info as your journey is almost the same as mine.

Besides buying suncakes/pineapples tart, drop by at their Carrefour and buy something different back! I bought many instant mee and their cheap lays! Their Kinder Bueno also got varieties there..

If you so happen to see Hsin Tung Yang, get their pineapple shortcakes! (the right box)

cheap and it's GOOD! regret that i bought 1 only. actually was busy grabbing this 1 box with a group of China girls. they bought around 20 boxes! so i asked them if the shortcakes are good, they say yes, they bought back for their colleagues...

It depends. The greatest expenses would be [1] accommodation, [2] transportation and [3] entrance tickets.

Which area do you plan to go? Taipei, Taichung, Nantou, HuaLien, Kaohsiung, etc
You have to take into account bus and train ticket. Since there's two of you, hiring private cab would be quite expensive.

How much is your budget for accommodation?
It ranges from NT$1000 to NT$2000 per night per room.
Just pick those near MRT and a few stops away from Taipei main station.

Assuming you are taking public transport (MRT, bus, train), RM1,500 to RM2,000 (stay+food+transport) should be enough , excluding shopping.

from Taipei you can board the train to RuiFang station (NTD76/pax), then take bus to jiufen (i forgot the bus number). Or from Taipei MRT ZhongXiaoFuXin Station board Keelung bus no. 1062 to JiuFen. Jiufen is not a very big place, so i guess they are quite near to each other.

I booked Sunny Room, and had to pay 50% deposit. If i'm not wrong the other 2 also required deposit.

i booked Fun Taipei Backpackers Hostel in Shilin, per person about RM300-400 for 7 nights. (paid 40% deposit) It's not exactly in Taipei City Center but downstairs is the Shilin night market. you should check out www.hostel.com to get a list of hostel then decide from there based on the ratings and price.

Few places i've researched earlier:
Ms Chen GuestHouse kinda cheap but from the photos the rooms are quite small. recommended by some ppl from Cari forum. it's nearer to city center (MRT SongShanNanjing) http://www.wretch.cc/blog/up0109tw

ColorMix in XiMenDing, convenient if you want to shop in XiMenDing and it's the happening place at nite. Price range around NTD1200-1400. http://colormix.pixnet.net/blog

BuXiaoXinDeNiao near SunYatSun Memorial. my friend stayed here last March, it's very nice but quite expensive compared to others. about NTD1400/nite. http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/mohsu37/article...ev=589&next=464

i'm budgeting about 1.5k/pax (including balance of accommodation fees, transportations, entrance fees, tourguide fees, and food) excluding shopping (some can really shop like crazy!). Places i'm visiting including Yeliu, jiufen, jinguashi, danshui, beitou, wulai, maokong, miaoli, nanzhuang, and famous places in taipei itself. total 5 ppl.

if you are going further places like taichung, qingjing, sun moon lake, taroko, yilan, kaoshiung etc etc etc you have to budget for more. those i got no information coz i'm not planning to go tongue.gif

Btw, I think u should start looking/booking for accommodation now if you want to stay in budget ones.
Colormix is quite popular among Cari (like what aiyume said), a few others: 365homestay, babyhome, MsChin (quite cheap).
These are home stay kind of accommodation. Some have discounts if you stay longer, eg. less NT$100 per night.

Budget hotel would be 明日大饭店 (website at 1st pg),convenient near to XiMenDing MRT.

How about you give us your budget, then the ppl here can try to help. smile.gif

Taking bus will be much cheaper If im not mistaken its about RM30-50
there's a info station specially for buying bus ticket in the airport you might consider going there to ask for direction and price.
