@jlgoh9, the digital tour buddy, did u apply online in advanced or you only apply when you reach there? if online, how long did it take to get approved? when you collect from the airport, how long did it take for you to get it?

reason i need to know coz my flight arriving TPE at 22:25 (if flight on time), i'm not sure if i got enough time to get a bus to the hostel. by the way, i can arrange late check in time with fun taipei right?
*
aiyume~~

digital buddy can apply starting one month before your departure... if they have the phone at their hand, they will reply u asap.
when i was there, i just need to fill in ur details and they will explain a bit. quite fast actually. just right outside of the departure hall.

thanks smoochie wub.gif
i'm taking AA sweat.gif just hope no flight delay loh... i'm travelling with 3 others. only 2 are under 30. but i think 4 ppl with 2 phones should be ok gua.

then how about the youth travel card? anyone has applied?
*
if can hand carry the luggage better still. no need wait for luggage.

i applied for the youth travel card but doesnt serve any much use. most prolly my sightseeing ticket is already paid for. but u get to keep the tag for souvenir. no harm applying, IMHO. might get discount on certain things smile.gif

QUOTE(jlgoh9 @ Jun 8 2011, 11:03 AM)
ic. you can ask your hostel about the option of the airport transfer whether he can get a better price for you or not.

my blog ar? haha. working on it now actually..maybe a few more days..perhaps..i can't believe that it's 2months+ since i went there and i still haven't finish writing about it tongue.gif

i managed to do jiufen, jinguashi and keelung in one day.

what will u be doing in keelung? if it's for the Miaokou night market, then i think u can do Yehliu, Jiufen and Keelung in the same day.

The Taiwan Visitors Association, they have 'goodies' for those going to Taiwan. Dunno how to explain.. but have 2 choices. before this they will give out either EasyCard with N amount of value or some hotspring voucher.. But i heard they are not so friendly.
My travel partner visited their booth during Matta Fair, instead of the EasyCard, they pushed her to take a coupon that can redeem for souvenir at the airport when we leave Taiwan..

Thanks Aiyume for the info...

I will be going Taiwan this Sunday 8D7N, i will be visiting Taipei,Taizhong, kenting and KaoShiung, exciting but nervous because many things arranged too rush  blush.gif
I have a few question with me, hope to get some advise:

1)I have prepared my USD with me, therefore i like to know that either taoyuan airport or money changer at taipei has better exchange rate?

2)I will be using THSR -高铁 to access most of the main city such as:
a) taipei - taizhong  (NT700/way)
b) taipei - Zuoying  (NT1490/way)
c) ZuoYing - Tao Yuan (NT1330/way)
The question is do i need to advance online booking for THSR ticket or just buy it on the spot will do? sweat.gif

3)Besides newyork2, Sogo, wufenpu, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, is there any other shooping area at taipei?

4)Since July is hot summer, so i skip most of the hot spring places such as wulai, xin bei tou, alishan, but should i give up? or is a "must" to visit?

5) Is there any special about National Palace museum at dansui station there.

6) Any device can be bought to detect the luggage weight?

Sorry for too many question  doh.gif
*
I'll answer based on my experience..

1) If wan say better exchange rate, not so sure coz dun have time to compare there.. but one thing for sure, hard to find money changer in taipei unless u go to their malls.. in my case, i change in the airport..

2) i also took HSR from Taoyuan - Zuoying, Zuoying - Taichung then Taichung to Taipei. all also buy on the spot.. and there are 2 type of seats, reserved or non reserved. non reserved is cheaper. based on my experience, during my HSR trips, the train were quite vacant.. not full house or hard to find place to seat...

3) is newyork2 still around? i heard it's closing down d.. u can shop at 台北地下街 (Taiwan Underground Mall) also. but IMHO, i still feel their night market is the best to shop tongue.gif

4) up to ur own preference. even when i was there during fall, i also skip the hot spring eventhough i have reach xin bei tou. jz walked around only.

5) If u like historical museum kinda thing can go lo.. CKS must go, Taiwan landmark so must go take picture.. SYS nothing much, quite like CKS also have guard changing ceremony

6) u stay in min shu or hotel? maybe can ask them if they have any weighing scale or not.

Besides buying suncakes/pineapples tart, drop by at their Carrefour and buy something different back! I bought many instant mee and their cheap lays! Their Kinder Bueno also got varieties there..

If you so happen to see Hsin Tung Yang, get their pineapple shortcakes! (the right box)
user posted image

cheap and it's GOOD! regret that i bought 1 only. actually was busy grabbing this 1 box with a group of China girls. they bought around 20 boxes! so i asked them if the shortcakes are good, they say yes, they bought back for their colleagues...

Few months back during their AAX sale, i got taipei ticket

RM1350 for 2 persons + 4 internal meal + 15kg baggage depart + 30kg baggage return. Is that consider a good promo. I'm trying to survey around whether i bought it cheap or not  tongue.gif

Added on September 30, 2011, 11:52 amany recommendation on taiwan public transport?

I am one person never like to take cab. Is their buses and city train convenient?
*
Yup, their public transport is very very reliable.

I took bus from Taipei - Jingguashi - Jiufen - Keelung - Taipei. Their bus drivers very attentive to tourists one. Let him know u wan to stop at which station (or go where), then he will inform you when it's time to go down the bus. Other places all i use Taipei City Train.

In Taichung, I use their HSR shuttle bus. Very punctual!

In Kaoshiung, i also use Kaoshiung City Train. Most places of attraction in Kaoshiung can be reach by MRT + foot. Some still need buses also la. My fond memory of Kaoshiung bus driver is superb. The driver went down from the bus and explain us the route to lotus lake/tiger dragon temple. We were pretty touch with the driver hospitality. He takes the time to come down from the bus with a map and explain properly to us. As I am quite limited with my chinese, surprisingly the bus driver can speak simple English! thumbup.gif

I really thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif Taiwan's public transport & their drivers hospitality!

Yea, when we were onboard on the bus to Jingguashi, there were a group of Japanese senior tourists. They were quite blank but surprisingly, a Taiwanese old lady approached them in a very fluent Japanese and guided them away. I was pretty overwhelmed a bit from my seat. Taiwanese are so so warm in their heart.

Hi Aiyume i planned to go up to Taichung.Any advise do we need take or bullet train is better?is it both this transport also need to depart at Taipei Main Station?
*
Ya, both Taiwan HSR & Taiwan Railway also depart from Taipei Main Station.

HSR will be faster but expensive. And from Taichung HSR they have free shuttle bus to certain locations in Taichung.

hi smoochie  wave.gif

last time u went for how many days? my next trip will be 6 days 5 nights, still wondering where to go, where u went last time?

anybody has any idea whether sun moon lake is better or taroko gorge?
*
i went for 10 days.

previous trip u went where d?

i din get to go to taroko gorge, but i feel taroko has more thing to see.
in sun moon lake, got cable car.. or rent a boat to go round the lake. so i feel nothing much in sun moon lake. plus the journey super far from any public transport.

i go for 10days, taoyuan(leofoo theme park, the doraemon thingy) - taipei(yehliu, jiufen, jinggushi, beitou) - taichung (sun moon lake, fengjia nite market) - kaoshiung (british consulate to see sunset, love river, dream mall, the dragon tiger temple, some sugar refinery museum)

although go for 10 days, but din get to go to hualien area and alishan! sad.gif
