I think updating the firmware should be easy and better. My Himedia H8 came with old firmware and the media player missed out a few feature and after I updated the firmware the sound track selection are available now. smile.gif

Today I downloaded hundreds of 4K MV and trying them out. KODI v17.1 run better than the stock player.  rclxms.gif

Audio track selection is basic. Your old firmware must hv been launched in a hurry, u never bothered to update until now. tongue.gif

I can't watch 4K youtube contents with my Himedia unit even my TV. It can only play up to 720p with H8. TV up to 1080p.

Can Q10 play youtube video up to 4K 2160p 60fps?

Your firmware 1.0.1 must be the original, u never updated.

If u had factory reset shows same, that confirms it.

I m quite sure there r updates, u will need to find them if u want.

But if all is good,  u have utube n google working, happy enough, then ok.

I dont know h8 but q series, even 5 yr old can do youtube 1080p.

There are 2 youtube version apps, one gets u 720p only, the other 1080p.

If tv is 1080p, 4k content can be played with any player that can handle it but output is just 1080p.

I never tried 4k youtube videos with Q10pro as i never need to download, just stream direct on 4k tv anytime.

But i am quite sure it can becos i have played many other 4k videos, incl 60fps, hevc, 10bit, hd audio.

I did not read much on those websites with firmwares.

3.04... u need to be sure that particular one will work as there are many variations in chipsets with the many models.

But yr box is android 4.4.2, cannot take kodi17 which reqiures android 5 or higher.

My q16 is 4.4.2 on firmware 3.0.4, cannot take kodi17.

Saumsung smart TV youtube app is lousy. I have to used a mouse to scroll down. LOL but I'm very sure there is no 4K option for me. max is only 1080p. as for the himedia H8. max is only 720p. Do you have the link to download the 1080p youtube app for android? my ipad also only play up to 720p. blink.gif

Here's how I manage YouTube playback via Samsung TV app.. Connect both the TV and a mobile device like a phone or tablet. Launch the YouTube app on the mobile device and at the top, there should be an icon that enables you to "cast" videos to the TV's YouTube app. It also allows video/playlist queueing. It's easier to search for videos on a mobile device and then cast to the TV. This way, you always get 1080p when available. Mobile device or TV remote acts as the playback remote.

**The above is applicable to select TV models, not just Samsung. So hopefully, yours is compatible.

Not really... Mine works perfectly each time.. Be it thru the casting feature or using the TV remote alone.. 1080p 2014 model.. Using the prior SmartHub OS... Not the flashy and newer Tizen OS.

Seems misunderstood... You don't have to use the smartphone TV app remote as a remote. You launch the YouTube app on your phone as if you want to watch YouTube videos on the phone. However, due to casting tech between the phone and TV, the YouTube app on the phone and on the TV (while connected to the same network) are able to detect each other and so the video/queued videos don't play on the phone but are sent and played straight up on the TV set. Allowing you to either put the phone on standby and use the physical tv remote to control playback.. Or
Use the phone screen (YouTube app, not smartphone remote) as the playback remote for what's playing on the TV..or
Use both the phone (YouTube app, not smartphone remote) and physical remote to control playback. Using the YouTube app to control is easier for moving the slider to a specific part of the video to resume playing.

The above method means; the watching of YouTube videos can happen faster and easier than starting up a media player (does not need an extra device) or launching the YouTube app on the TV first.. The phone casting feature does all these automatically.. Hope that's clearer.

Thanks for the advice. notworthy.gif Will give it a try smile.gif

ps: i think what you mention is like mirror feature but the quality of the video is just 720p. My apple TV does a better job for these purpose.

Anyway! thanks for the advice. I think downloading the 4K video is better for my case at least I don't need to see the advertisement while playing a video file from youtube. smile.gif

Anyone using Mi phones, any problems casting to any Himedia boxes?

I just got Redmi Note 4X... unable to get cast working to Q16... this is as far as it goes... after selecting nothing happens...

i had never tried casting my ASUS phone with himedia.

i just tried with MIRACAST app on q10pro, works fine.

(same quality, ease as casting direct phone-tv's googlecast; works same for samsung tablet.)

u may want try that on q16.

q10pro/q5pro... for those still unclear what the wrapper is for...

QUOTE
Using Android 7 firmware 2.0.1 or Android 5.1 firmware 1.0.9:

With Kodi 16.1:
- All HD-Audio (e.g. 7.1 channel) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi+wrapper.
- Up to 5.1 channel audio (DTS / AC3) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi internal player.
- Up to 5.1 channel audio (DTS / AC3) from Kodi streaming add-ons using Kodi internal player.

With Kodi 17:
- All HD-Audio (e.g. 7.1 channel) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi+wrapper.
- Only 2 channel audio from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi internal player.
- Only 2 channel audio from Kodi streaming add-ons using Kodi internal player.

The expectation is that the next Android 7 firmware will enable Kodi 17 7.1 HD-Audio passthrough using Kodi internal player, streaming and local.

Next firmware. About a week away.
