hi guys, any idea if it is possible to record the content on the screen. For example, if I am watching TV Plus 2.0 streaming channel, can I record it? The TV Plus 2.0 app does not offer recording in the menu but I am hoping the q10 pro has this feature.

I have an old receiver that can only decode up to DD and DTS-ES 6.1 with SPDIF port only, no HDMI. Can I use HiMedia Q10 Pro to decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA into 5.1 PCM and pass that to my receiver? Basically, my receiver is only acting as amplifier. Is this possible or I have to get a new receiver with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoding capability?

interesting question but i don't think there is a built in digital tuner.

yes with SPDIF.

in fact, all previous himedia q series can do that. it will just downgrade to core dts/dd to pass on to yr AVR.

and the good news is there are 2 options - u can use optical toslink or coaxial rca.

q10pro can play just about any file u can get.

say, you play a uhd4k dtshdma 7.1 file:

.. q10pro-hdmi-1080p tv => u get just 1080p, not 4k.
.. q10pro-spdif-AVR 5.1 => u get dts 5.1.

Himedia H8 Pplus should update to the new firmware 1.1.7. it is so much smoother now playing 4K 60fps movie.

How does it downgrade to core dts/dd? Does it just eliminate the channels other than core 5.1 or remix it? Will there be any losses to the core 5.1 audio track?

i don't know how to describe it in the correct technical terms but basically yes, it just discard the unwanted extensions in the audio track and keep the core.

u will not lose anything if you have never heard hd audio!

for the same video, the hd audio bit is at least 30% more in terms of file size.

so, there is surely a diff; in my view, big diff.

my view is if u are not into the best videos/audio, it is fine to stay with old AVR, and old TV.

but then u r kinda underutilizing the box but ready for future use.

to get the best out of q10pro, u will need a 4k hdr tv and a 4k hdr AVR.

the box is also capable of doing dolby vision (12 bit color) and dts:x, ddatmos, but those are still very very new.

The thing is I only have a 5.1 setup now. Not sure when I will be getting a 7.1. The main reason is I can't find ways/space to put the additional speakers. 5.1 is okay without being too intrusive in my living hall.

existing 5.1 set up is fine.

the deal is about hd audio (and 4k video, of course).

dtshdma, ddtruehd are now very common.

if getting new AVR, these entry level AVR's may be suitable for you:

Denon AVR-X520BT... 4k, hdcp2.2, 5.2,(non HDR)

Onkyo TX-SR252...4k, hdcp2.2, 5.1, HDR.

both rm1.2k, find them at 11th street, lazada, etc.

I read the SoC is processing the 12 bit Dolby Vision internally, but down-mix to 10 bit for connection externally...

HiMedia have informed us that the next Android 7 firmware is delayed until ~ end March due to more work being required from HiSilicon (Q5/Q10 Pro chipset manufacturer and HiMedia partner company).
We have requested a list of what will be fixed from HiMedia in this firmware and will update this thread when we have it.

meanwhile, i am pleased to find that with my upgraded unifi 50mbps, i can now stream up to 20gb (typically 1080p dtshdma) files on kodi/quasar with path set to the internal HDD.

this is very convenient! rclxms.gif

but it is not good enough since audio is only 2.0.

waiting for new firmware to fix the audio part to have hd audio passthrough or a new wrapper.

meanwhile, to get dtshdma from a file like that, need to wait for stream to complete, saved, then playback with himedia native player.

after a few days, i find it rather "undecisive".

the speed wobbles between 32 to 48 mbps all the time.

well, it's a free upgrade... biggrin.gif
